About the 7-Cs Colloquium
India is currently constructing large number of very expensive and important infrastructure
systems (i.e., ports, railway bridges, highway bridges (especially along the coast), etc.). Many
of these structures consist of concrete elements and are located in coastal regions and/or
cities with saline ground water. If adequate precautions are not taken, then the aggressive
coastal and tropical conditions (e.g., chloride attack, moisture attack etc.) can lead to the
premature deterioration of the concrete structures, especially corrosion. Although several
advanced on concrete technologies are available, very few of them are being implemented
in Indian construction sites leading to premature deterioration. India cannot afford to
continue this poor practice with the large amount of current construction projects underway.
The 7-Cs will focus on bridging this gap by providing insights on various performance
specifications and advanced field practices for durable concrete construction in coastal and
tropical regions. The 7-Cs will also give insights on various repair and restoration techniques
for extending the service life of the existing structures.

About the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI)

The Indian Concrete Institute, founded in 1982, is the premier organisation for concrete
technologists, with captains of industry, cement manufacturers, leading consultants,
academicians, educational institutions and research scientists as active members. The ICI
has more than 10,000 members attached to 30 centers spread all over the country. The ICI
encourages student participation and has 51 Students' Chapters with over 2000 members.
The major objectives are: spread good construction practices amongst engineers & trade
organisations, conduct conferences, workshops, seminars and training programs
periodically. The ICI has international collaborations with Asian Concrete Federation,
Singapore Concrete institute, Concrete Institute of Australia, etc. The ICI publishes a
quarterly journal containing peer-reviewed technical papers, and gives awards for various
achievements every year in its Annual Meetings.
