    Course Project Guidelines
    Submission deadline: December 5th 2021 (by 11:59pm)
    Objectives:
    Develop students’ skills in data collection, empirical analysis (such as graphical presentation, descriptive statistics and
    hypotheses testing) and presentation.
    Guidelines:
    ▪ Students are required to form groups of 3 to 5 students and write a report analyzing various aspects of a sample of
    banks in a country.
    - Note: the countries from which the banks should be analyzed by each group are given at the end of this
    document (each group should choose a country).
    ▪ The banks will be accepted on a first-come, first-selected basis. Teams that have a nonparticipating member should
    report him/her to me, and I will have a discussion with that person. If the student still does not participate, he/she
    will be removed from the group and receive a zero on the project.
    ▪ Students should collect data from Banks’ annual report to support the proposed hypothesis. For each bank you
    need to export the following data set in the following order: (1) Income statement, (2)Balance Sheet, (3)Cash Flow,
    (4) Profit and Risk Ratios.
    ▪ The data should be exported for three years at least (2018,2019 & 2020). Then copy and paste each set of data of
    individual bank in one excel sheet in the order stated earlier (Leave one raw empty between each set of data).
    ▪ Students are required to calculate the following 10 KEY FINANCIAL RATIOS (Efficiency Ratio, Equity
    Multiplier, Non-interest Income, Net non-interest margin, Net operating margin, Loan Loss Provision (% of
    Average Loans), Nonperforming Loans (% of Total Loans), Earnings Per Share, Return on Assets, and Return on
    Equity).
    ▪ To conduct the analysis, the banks in the sample should be divided into two groups based on total assets. The first
    includes large banks, while the other includes the small banks.
    ▪ Students need to test one of the following hypotheses:
    - There is a significant relationship between the selected ratios and bank’s size

    ▪ Create a table for all the banks in sample for each year calculate the following breakdown analysis of Return on
    Equity of Banks
    - ROE = Net profit Margin × Asset Utilization ratio × Equity Multiplier
    - Discuss why the ROE of each bank in sample increase or decrease in a subsequent year.
    - For explanation of creating the table and explanation consult Slides 24-26 for Chapter 6.
