“SURELY, Allah and His angels send blessings to the Prophet. O you
who believe, do pray Allah to bless him, and send your Salām (prayer for
his being in peace) to him in abundance.”

SURAH AL-AHZAB, VERSE 56

L abbaik Ya R a s ula lla h ‫ﷺ‬

In the darkness of night

You are the light of day
In the midst of the fight
Your love guides the way

All my troubles are gone

As my lips say your name
Nur Muhammad has shone
The Messenger had came

Upon you prayers of peace

And blessings as it rained
Dreaming about you is bliss
Through your rank all is gained

Allah’s Beloved, His Intimate

Ahmad the praised on high
The last seal of all the Prophets
He is Al-Amin who never lies

On that Day we will see his way

“I am for this!” the true confession
Saving those who have gone astray
Giving the greatest Intercession

H U SA I N A B DU L R A H I M

Ummati ummati is his concern

All with faith in Allah will succeed
Remember him, let us learn
In our hearts to plant the seed

La ilaha illallah
Muhammadur Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬
There is no God except Allah
Muhammad is His Messenger ‫ﷺ‬

Follow in g yo u ‫ ﷺ‬i s wha t I mus t do

Let us follow you, in the perfect sunnah way

With sincerity in our hearts, every single day
With fear and hope, and hands raised above
With pure gratitude that leads to Divine love

Worshipping Allah, in Mercy’s shower

Witnessing His Actions, the Creator’s Power
Standing up at night, your feet swollen
To be a grateful servant as you have spoken

You have reminded us, “O Bilal give us rest!”

Through the prayer we overcome this heavy test
Until we can love, our faith has no resolve
Others above I, the ego will dissolve

To guide to the way with prophetic lights

Giving neighbours and guests their honoured rights
To remember Allah and preserve all His Commands
To refrain from His Prohibitions, saved from His Reprimands

If we can aspire, despite your high lofty station

To be with you, upon us be much prostration
No God but God upon our dying breath
To live together in Paradise with you, true life after death.

How I w ish e d to ho ld yo ur bles s ed h a nd ‫ﷺ‬

How I wished to hold your blessed hand beneath the tree

To witness you splitting the moon in half for Quraisyh to see
To drink from the waters that came forth from your fingers
Kissing your blessed hands softer than silk where blessings lingers

How I wished to see your beauty outshine a full moon

To see your blessed smile, and behold you shadowless in mid-noon
To run after you as the earth folded beneath your blessed feet
Gazing upon your blessed seal of prophecy a blessing so sweet

How I wished to hear the trunk whose longing for you cease
By your blessed touch that healed hearts and brought peace
To be transformed by your presence, words and exalted character
Your love and concern for your enemy and friend did not falter

How I wished I could be on the battle of Uhud as your shield

Covering your sides in Ta’if despite the rocks as you never yield
To see your wisdom manifest in Hudaibiyah as you signed the treaty
Hiding behind you in Badr and Hunain a safe haven from the enemy

7
H U SA I N A B DU L R A H I M

How I wished I could see the tree walking towards you

Being an advocate for the weary camel, an animal, that’s true
To see the Dhab testify your Risalah as the Chosen Messenger
And hear the wolf who spoke Arabic, miracles indeed O Listener!

How I wished to drink from your cup, the water tastes so good
Eating pumpkins and the lamb’s shoulder with bread your favourite food
Tying one stone around my stomach when you have two
Feeding the hungry with just one bowl your barakah flows through

How I wished to affirm your truthfulness of Isra’ wal Mi’raj in sacred history
To ride behind you on Fathul Makkah the clear victory
Seeing your blessed turban lowered as you bowed in humility
As you forgave everyone who hurt you, ‘Today you all are free!”

How I wished to see you by the window waving your hand

As the message of Islam spread throughout the Arab lands
Gesturing to Sayyidina Abu Bakr to continue leading the jemaah
As you smiled on knowing he will be the Messenger’s Khalifah

How I wished to hold your hand on your last earthly day

Remember your blessed scent as you continued your way
The longing to see you in my dreams, in the blessed lands
In the afterlife… Ya Rasulallah ‫ ﷺ‬Take my hand

M O H A M E D J E E SH A N

How w as it po s s i ble f o r yo u to li ve a m o ng u s ? ‫ﷺ‬

How was it possible for you to live among us?

Armed with just a smile, speaking in beauty,
Your concern then and now has been about us;
Perfect manners: your love, our charity.

You raised the ummah through war and peace:

Mecca to Medina, Badr to Ta’if,
Deserts wild and towns with strife without cease;
Mercy you said on Arafat is to give.

How we struggle to be just and learn

If only to be worthy of your heart:
Treading the earth to ready our return;
We yearn to be with you, time keeps us apart.

Scattered with barren hearts in dry, dark lands,

We throng in droves to drink from your blessed hands ‫ﷺ‬

Fallin g in love wi th yo u ‫ﷺ‬

Loving you more than life itself

Yet I cannot fathom my self
I lost myself and I lost them
I go for walks and I see you
In the number of leaves and the drops of dew
In the clouds where they shade us all
In the friend who exist when I fall
It is the love where you exist in people
And the kindness of words rather than those of evil
The light of the Moon and the gentle breeze
What about the guilt I feel when I feast
I left them and I flee me
So what can I make of this empty
When I am out of ways
In so many comforts I tried to pursue
But I am always falling back to you

Neigh bou rs i n Pa r a di s e

What does it take

For your companionship in paradise?

Flawed, hoping, salutations.

Seekers find solace in your name.
Healing, Calm, respair.

The crying tree,

Silenced only by your assurance of companionship.
Do I stand close to love?

Documented in pages,
hearts of man,
Breaths of remembrance.
Do I follow in your footsteps?

I was not with you,

But I am with you.
Through praises.
Gatherings.
Behind unshaken walls.

My flaws in knowing you.

Your perfection in knowing us.

11
FAU Z I A Z M A N

Bring us close.
Intercede.
Allow us to drink from your river.
Extend your gaze on this sinner.
May our sight meet
In Paradise.
As Neighbours.

s prin g n ever left

At eventide, I gaze beyond the clouds,

lost in thought,
Dreaming of my beloved so far away.”
-- Anonymous

it’s still spring

let each moment of witnessing the clouds,
be witnessing the clouds
the clouds that moved as the beloved walked,
the clouds that stopped when he stopped
o clouds that would shade him from the sun’s heat

Celebrat in g yo u ‫ﷺ‬

Celebrate the Mawlid!

Qiyam! Stand up and sing!
Marhaban Ya Marhaban Ya Nur al-aini!
Welcome O the light of my eyes!
Marhaban Jaddal Husaini!
Welcome Grandfather of Hasan and Hussein!
Marhaban Marhaban!
Celebrate as much as we can!
Our celebrations would never compare
With the celebration of the Heavens
For him ‫ ﷺ‬on the night of the Ascension
The First to the Seventh
The Prophets and the Inhabitants
Together with all the Angels
They rejoice in happiness
Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬has been sent!
Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬is visiting us!

Celebrate his birth ‫! ﷺ‬

On that blessed morn before fajr
The best of all creation of Allah was born
The idols around the Ka’abah fell
The palaces of Rum and towers of Kisra trembled
The thousand-year fire of the Magians extinguished

14
H U SA I N A B DU L R A H IM

Light filled the horizon from the east to the west

Iblis cried as the Jins fled

Our Master Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬

Sent as a mercy to all the worlds
Your mother never felt
Difficulty in pregnancy and birth
Blessings over blessings
Light over light
Glad tidings over glad tidings
If not for you ‫! ﷺ‬
The whole universe would not be

Celebrate him ‫! ﷺ‬
Our celebrations will never compare
To how Allah celebrates him ‫ﷺ‬
On the day of Qiyamah
As we hope for his Syafaa ‘ah
All of creation will see his maqam mahmudah
You are the one who is praised
And gives the most praises for the Most Praised
On that day with a praise that no one knows but you ‫ﷺ‬
Allahumma salli wa sallim ala sayyidina Muhammad!

B I N T U H A B SH I

Peace and blessings be upon you, oh Messenger of Allah,

Oh how we all long to be in your company.
Can we just mention about the genuine love you had for your Ummah,
More fragrant than musk, much sweeter than honey.

You mentioned to the sahabah, that you missed your brothers,

They all were confused, but aren’t we your brothers, ya Rasulullah?
You said, no, you’re my companions who’ve met me, amongst others,
My brothers are those believe in me,
yet they’ve never seen me, oh my Ummah.

In long nights you prayed, asking forgiveness from Allah to forgive us.
You cried and you cried, showering us with love, mercy and care.
So you ask yourself now, is it not loving the Prophet is a must,
For without him, our guide, our Qudwah, we›re all be in despair.

Do you know what it’s like to fall in love before first sight?
Though my eyes have never met yours, you’re always in my mind.
Your guidance and teachings remain, for you are nur, you are light,
Now tell me, is there really any other like you that I can find?

When they ask why do we cry even at the mention of your name?
I get a little appalled, for do they know what you have done for us?
You always sought for the truth, not wealth, prestige nor fame.
You were called Al-Ameen, the one whom everyone can trust.

23
B I N T U H A B SH I

You were a servant of God, a father, a husband, a leader,

And you were perfect in all roles, all in their own right.
Is there anything more a lover wants than to be reunited with her lover?
May we be reunited in Jannatul Firdaus, oh I can’t fathom the sight.

As I learn more about you each day,

I fall in love more with your perfect being.
There is none other like you, for you are the best of mankind.
Until the day I get to meet you, despite my struggles,
I’ll keep on believing,
And I pray that Allah reminds me to keep my priorities aligned.
