0 INTRODUCTION

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) talks about the main character, Walter Mitty,
and his adventurous life. Walter Mitty was the Life magazine company's negative asset
manager, who had been employed for sixteen years. A co-worker named Cheryl Melhoff had
a crush on him. Unfortunately, Walter was a kind of day-dreamer who did not dare to act. He
still fled his anonymous life in the midst of his operations by slipping into a world full of
dreams filled with heroism, romance, and acts. That's why he's always been ridiculed by his
colleagues. The story began with Walter, who was trying to send a wink to the E-Harmony

He assumed that only Sean knew where the negative 25 has been. Cheryl
approached him and made a suggestion to think of the other negatives as hints to the
location of Sean. Helped by Cheryl, he flew quickly to find Sean. The first place he visited to
find Sean became Greenland. When he arrived, he encountered a massive drunken postal
helicopter pilot who was angry with Walter because he declined to sing a drunken pilot's

him courage and faith to board the helicopter.
Helped by the crew of the ship, Walter eventually got on the ship. He heard from the ship
that Sean had departed the ship earlier from the wrapping paper he discovered as the cake
wrapper containing the destination list of Sean. This led him to Iceland, where Sean
photographed the volcano "Eyjafjallajokull." There the eruption and a text message recalling
him made him return to New York. Walter was fired for failing to get the negative 25. He
spent time hanging out with Cheryl in New York and visiting his sister and mother at home.
He threw away the wallet Sean had given him at home, but his mother took it and kept it.
Hearing the tale of his mother that Sean had visited his mother at home and seeing the
piano curve that was the same with the last negative clue, his surprise doubled. His mother's
advice made him take a trip to the Himalayas and learn that Sean was taking a photograph
of a snow leopard. He specifically questioned Sean about the negative number 25. The
negative was in the pocket, Sean answered. Sean says that negative 25 was really beautiful
and significant to him when Walter asked what negative 25 actually was. Sean ignored the
issue and asked Walter to take part with some local people in a soccer game.

When helping his mother sell her piano, Walter said he no longer had a wallet. Her mother,
hearing that, gave him the wallet that she had picked up from the trash bin. Walter took the
negative 25 explicitly and sent it to Life magazine. Once there, he told the manager that it
was Sean's negative 25 for the cover of the final print issue. Walter return to Cheryl a few
days later and told her that he really did not know what negative 25 actually meant. At a
newsstand, they saw the last issue of Life magazine. It amazed them with its cover. It
showed Walter holding a sheet sitting outside the Life building. It was Sean's greatest
admiration of Walter's devotion to work. Then, holding hands, they kept walking down the
street.

Critique on the Movie

what a good remake should do; it takes the basic idea of the original and pushes in a
different direction while maintaining some of its predecessor's names and touchstones.
Viewed from that angle, Walter Mitty's The Hidden Life of Ben Stiller is both familiar and
new. Sadly, where Walter Mitty's The Hidden Life lets his viewers down is with a flaccid plot.
The cause of the problem is difficult to pinpoint, but Walter's storyline never contains it. His
adventures tend to be perfunctory. When stars Ben Stiller (who plays Walter) and Kristin
Wiig (who plays his love interest, Cheryl) share the screen, the movie comes to life, but
during the long globetrotting sequences that Walter has on the road of hotshot photographer
Sean O'Connell, it is less engrossing.

The tale is about a meek office worker who lives through the photographic negatives that he
handles at Life magazine vicariously. Walter is compelled to go on a meaningful quest to find
the photographer when a coveted picture of the one designated for the cover of the final
print issue of the magazine is gone. He discovers himself along the way and develops a new
understanding of life. In a "simpler" period, films of this type could have done well, but in a
time when a defining social trait is cynicism, this one may have trouble finding an audience.
The only cynics in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) are the antagonists, including Ted
Hendricks (Adam Scott), the new boss, who taunts and belittles Walter before firing him.
