ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

We are very grateful because we managed to complete our Design Engineering I-A project within
the time given by our guide Prof. Darshan Shah . This project cannot be completed without the
effort and co-operation group member.

We would like to thank our guide Prof. Darshan Shah for trusting us and giving us this golden
opportunity under the course of Design Engineering. It helps us in a various way to observe world
in different manner.

We express sincere thanks to Prof. Dr. Rupesh Vasani,(Principal) and Prof. V. G. Patel,
(Head of department) to give us an opportunity to do our project freely and support us. Civil
Engineering Department, SAL Institute of Technology and Engineering Research, for giving us
an opportunity to undertake this research study.

Last but not the least, we would like to thank our family, friends, all supporting faculties for their
continuous support and believing in us.

Thank you

ABSTRACT

In India, the pedestrians are not efficient in general and crosswalks (Zebra Crossing)
in Particular. We are mainly focuses on pedestrian Crossing which is the most
dangerous component in traffic filed. The behavior of pedestrian crossing under mix
traffic condition at signalized intersection is needed to be considered while
optimizing signal cycle and designing crosswalks. Pedestrian behavior need to be
analyzed for safe and efficient traffic management. We are considers present the
behavior of pedestrians at an urban signalized intersection with an objective to
suggest factors to be considered for traffic safety at intersection.

CHAPTER: 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 INTRODUCTION: Pedestrian Safety

Pedestrians are most vulnerable in a traffic accident. Hence improving conditions for the safety of
the pedestrian should be of utmost concern for local urban planners, engineers, municipal
administrators.

As the road accident prediction studies involve various complex systems namely the human, road,
vehicle and all other environmental factors, it is vital to develop dynamic simulation model to
understand the interactions between the various complex systems.

Road accidents are imposing considerable social and economic burdens on the victims, and various
direct and indirect costs. Road accidents are essentially caused by improper interactions between
vehicles, and other road users or roadway features. The situation that leads to improper interactions
could be the result of the complex interplay of a number of factors such as pavement
characteristics, geometric features, traffic characteristics, road users, behavior, vehicle design,
driver’s characteristics and environmental aspects. Thus, the whole system of accident occurrence
is a complex phenomenon.

HAPPY STORY:1

 Jayeshbhai having a shop in shopping centre, To purchase material for their shop
Jayeshbhai and his workers to cross the road using underpass in one day they use this
facility number of time.

HAPPY STORY:2

 In city area there is college student need food in break time so they find some time
street food or other else they have to go opposite side or road is two way and road have
divider so people/students cannot cross road and there is no option to provide road to
cross road. So people can’t get utilities. So they demand the bridge Walkway bridge
providing safety of pedestrian and students and at the end they are happy.

SAD STORY:1

 Poojaben go to shopping on weekend due to lack of footpath she feel unsafe on road
and getting chances of accident.

SAD STORY:2

 Maheshbhai used to walk Road to his shop every day but some traffic and venders he
got problems footpath is also in road but due to venders on footpath he face problems.
