I really like this show called Paul's Place. In the first episode, Paul's new restaurant was
opening that night. He had told his staff of three that they should be at the restaurant at noon to
get things ready. "Don't be late," he said.
Then he called a few good friends and said that he would really appreciate their help, too. He
admitted that he wasn't sure his staff was big enough to handle the grand opening crowd.
His old friend Jon was the first of his friends to show up. Jon was tall and thin and a little
clumsy. He was kind of a goof, but everyone said he had the biggest heart in the world. He
said Paul should just tell him what he wanted him to do.
Paul asked Jon to carry a large tray of chocolate cupcakes from the kitchen into the restaurant.
Jon eagerly grabbed the tray and moved on his long legs towards the swinging doors. He was
right in front of the doors when a voice called out, "Coming in!"
Paul watched in horror as Jon froze. Seriously. He froze. He didn't move out of the way. He
just stood there. And, of course, the swinging doors knocked the cupcake tray right out of his
hands. Cupcakes flew into the air and landed all over the kitchen, smearing frosting as they
went.
Tina came through the swinging doors. She asked Jon whether he was all right. The rest of the
staff pushed through the doors to see what was going on.
Jon said, "Sorry, Paul." Then he continued, "So, you want me to carry in that tray of glasses?"
All the staff started laughing. "What's so funny about that?" Jon asked. "I don't get it."
Paul told him not to worry about it. Then he said that he had some potatoes for Jon to peel.
