Thermal comfort: exercise

Question

a) By using the CBE thermal comfort tool, assess the following indoor condition:

 Air temperature = 28.5 °C

 Mean radiant temperature = 28.5°C (assume no radiation effect from surrounding)
 Air speed = 0.2 m/s
 Relative humidity = 68%
 Metabolic rate = 1.0 (reading seated)
 Clothing level = 0.57
 Note: use PMV method, Psychrometric chart (air temperature)

(check the compliance level, PMV and PPD value, and sensation)

b) If the temperature can be reduced, what is the allowable maximum indoor air temperature to
achieve comfort condition.

c) If the temperature remains the same (as in (a)), what is the minimum air speed level to achieve
comfort condition?

d) Can the comfortable condition be achieved if we reduce the air temperature (and mean radiant
temperature) to 24°C.
