Hello there 9th Graders! How are you feeling that you will be doing the last module? I know you are excited for at
last, you have survived this school year. With this, please know that I am so proud of you for even if there were times that you
felt tired, frustrated, doubtful and rebellious, I know deep down in you, you are eager to learn to be ready to face the challenges
of life. Whatever you felt, we also felt that as your teachers, everybody of us were new to this, so don’t forget to still value your
teachers and treat them with respect. We are all thankful to you as well as to your parents and those who assisted you for
journeying with us.
So to you my dear student, thank you for all the efforts you have exerted in this subject. I hope that in a way, I have
touched your life to be better than who you are before. The concepts maybe hard that you can forget but I hope the values that
you have caught will be your weapon to carry out the vision of our school as transformed compassionate men and women. Once
again, Thank you and God bless!
Love,
Ma’am Marianne

Performance Task
I know you are excited to do your performance task, so prepare your ruler, inclinometer and scientific calculator as
we enjoy the application of trigonometry in real life.

GOAL Determine the height of your desired backdrop.

role You are a stylist for a Birthday Party.

Audience Your work will be evaluated by the Organizer of HCI and the client.

Your client asked you to do the styling for a birthday party. Since you cannot
go to the venue due to the pandemic, you made all the necessary decorations
in your house including the backdrop. You are planning to make a very high
Situation backdrop with a height same as the height of your desired object in your place
(e.g. tree, house, pole and etc.). With the use of the inclinometer and the
knowledge you have learned in trigonometry, you will present how to
determine the height of your desired backdrop.

You are going to determine the height of your desired backdrop through
presenting a step by step process with pictures, labels and solution
(measurements in inches). You may opt to edit digitally and print, print then
product cut and paste the pictures like scrapbooking or any style depending on your
creativity as long as it should be in an 8.5” x 11” size with a cover page
provided by the subject teacher. Include in your compilation a 1 page essay
(encoded or written) of your journey in Mathematics this year. All your
output must be compiled in a clear folder with any color of your choice.

You are going to be graded with the following criteria:

Mathematical Concept 40 pts Organization 20 pts
standard
Creativity 20 pts Essay 20 pts
Total: 100 points
Guide

Here is a guide for you to do your performance task. In the title page, I measured the height of the flagpole. This
guide will present the measurement in meters, note that in your task, you will be using inches (I foot = 12 inches).

Measure THE distance from your target.

In this step, I will decide how far I am from the target. Since I used meter stick, I measured 8 meters from the base
of the flagpole.

Position your inclinometer to your target.

In this part, position your inclinometer to your target. Get the angle from reading your inclinometer, make sure
that it is the angle made with 00 near your eyes, not the 1800.
THIS 00
Interpret the angle of elevation.
NOT THIS 1800!!!
From the inclinometer, the angle I got is 510.
To interpret this, let us use the figure below.

To get the angle of elevation,

we will get the complementary of
510.
HEIGHT

900 – 510 = 390

8 meters
Since we have now interpreted the angle of elevation, I will measure the height from my eye level.

With respect to 390, the height is the opposite while the 8 meters is the adjacent. So I am going to use the tangent
ratio.

h  6.48 m
Note that this is still the height from my eye level.

Measure your eye level height.

The measure of the height We have now enough data to get the measurement of the flagpole.
of my eye level is 1.56m.
6.48 meters

Height of the flagpole = 6. 48m + 1.56m

= 8.04 m

8 meters
1.56 meters

The height of the flagpole is 8.04 meters.

If you don’t have a ruler and a protractor, you can cut and paste these on a carton to make it durable.

Reminders

Have fun in doing this task and don’t forget that you have your subject teacher to guide you, so if you have questions and confusions please do
not hesitate to ask. God Bless!
