CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

This chapter presents the Introduction of the research study and background
information of the research

INTRODUCTION

Customer satisfaction is a business philosophy, which tends to the creation of

value for customers. Colleges and Universities in the City are held with high regards

as places for higher level of education and learning, preparation for a bright future.

Most of newly graduate students in High school from provinces to the city are

identified to into several categories like job seekers or workers, travelers, tourist and

more.

Staying in the city requires an immediate family member to stay with it could be

in a boarding house, hostels or hotels, Depending on which category the person

belongs, students will prefer to stay within the vicinity of the campus they will study.

Job seekers or workers may choose to stay in a place near their workplace, while

travelers and tourist alike may stay in hostels or hotel. These days, there are several

factors to be considered in looking for the place to stay for years for students and

workers, while short term for travelers and tourist.

Cabagan Isabela when searching for a place to stay, it is important to look for a great

deal and a great place to be. It is a tiresome task with the numerous deals and

promotions offered that can be stressing.

Before choosing for a place to stay. There are many factors for a traveler to consider in

selecting a good place. One of it is the type of accommodation to get that will suit the

budget. Some of the travelers consider getting into a five-star hotel as long as they

have the money but some of them are just looking for inexpensive temporary shelter to

get through the night.

The Encyclopedia refer the word ‘Hostel’ as an old name for an inn and was

later on used to illustrate a building that provides lodging for students and some other

groups. The word “hotel” and “hostel” came from the same origin, coming from the

English language from and old French hostel and from the Late Latin hospitable,

which indicates place for rest. Later “hostels” was use for a place where students can

stay for better learning. Hostels refers to a building in which board and lodging is

provided (American Heritage, 2011)

A hostel in an establishment that offers a low-cost accommodation for who are

looking for a room that provides lodging for a short-term basis or sometimes willing to

share a room for sociable experience. Rooms can be mixed for male and female

together or separately, although private rooms may also be available. The essential

accommodation, in the past consists of a room equipped with modern efficiency like a

bathroom, air conditioning and others.

planned trip whether business or pleasure.

Company Profile

Established on July 06, 2020, Bahay Ni Kuya (Big Bro House) Hotel was
created by a businessman in Cubag, Cabagan, Isabela. The hotel is owned and
managed by Mr. OrlandoC. Marayag he decide to name Bahay ni Kuya (Big Bro
House) Currently the hotel has 12 rooms across multiple select services, extended
stay, mid-scale, family room single bed and walk-in room previously full services
event weddings, birthday parties and more. He decided the name Bahay ni Kuya (Big
Bro House) because he is the eldest in their siblings. One of the hotel main goals is to
provide a homelike ambiance and a feeling of a Filipino warmth and hospitality to their
and will continue to grow under the management of his family. The Reservation
System of Bahay ni Kuya (Big Bro House) Hotel us manually done. Tellers staying in
the reception are dependent on incoming calls for a room. Calls into written entries on
their monthly calendar for reservation.

Theoretical/Conceptual Framework

The hotel industry is a business venture for the owner and solace for the traveler

and/or tourist. It needs physical effort for you to get a room and it needs a lot of time

to search for a good room that can satisfy your needs. In this study. The researchers

realized that booking a hotel room consumes a lot of time and energy. This study took

Hansonic Hotel as an example. It looked at creating an online reservation system to

enable customers choose the room they wanted after they experienced a virtual tour.

Less energy and less time to get a hotel room.

Statement of the Problem

The researchers will support and mange online hotel transaction and services in
Big Bro House and Events place in Cubag Cabagan Isabela to developed a
Computerized Web-Base of the System to provide better services to the
customers.

1. What is the status of the existing transaction system of Bahay Ni Kuya Hotel
in Cubag Isabela?

2. What are the processes involved in the existing system of Bahay Ni Kuya

books in their transaction and payments.

This part discusses the significances of creating the system to the Big bro House

And Events Place. Research strongly believes that the system will be beneficial to the
following.

Big Bro House Hotel – The significance of this study to manage the guest or the
Customers to reach their hotel using the Internet. In addition, this can help them
doing work more easily and precisely

The Customers – They can view the amenities, facilities, package deal and offer of the
Hotel using the computers. They can also see the pictures of the place, their package

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents the related literature and studies about the current business
that the researches choose where they will continue.

Foreign Literature

Online hotel transaction systems are increasing in importance and greatly

facilitate cross border consumer activity. The Internet has enabled hotels to contract

directly with a huge number of potential customers. It has also revitalized the role of

agents and lead to new type of agent, the web agent or travel gate, selling a far wider

range of accommodation on behalf of a far wider range of hotels. However, while online

booking has increased the range of offers available, there are also some emerging

worries due to examples of unfair commercial practices and lack of transparency

related to such transaction.(Alleweldt, et al, 2018)

According to Alleweldt, et al (2018) when a consumer starts an online booking

procedure, the website is obliged to display in a prominent and conspicuous manner

the number of bedrooms remaining at the specified price, and to display a summary

off contract terms, relating to cancellations by the consumer and hotel. They also

included that online transaction systems must display the final price of a hotel room

both before and during any booking procedure.

This study proposes to improve legal protection of customers with regard to online

Hotels can also compete by offering what third party services offer (ease of access

through the internet) but doing it better and more effectively themselves. Large

numbers of travellers are now booking their rooms through hotel websites, many of

which offer three-dimensional views of rooms, public areas, spas and other amenities,

giving clients the ability to see what they are booking even more clearly that they

would by calling the hotels transaction desk (Glincher, 2016)

Asupra, (2016), studied an automated system of billing and reservation for “Pearl

Manor Pension House” Incorporated. After a careful study by the researchers it has

been found out that the employees’ encounters problem with their present system,

these problems are:  a. time consuming in processing check-in. b. delayed

computation of bills and c. time consuming processing of reservation. After a careful

study of the current system of Pearl Manor Pension House, Incorporated, the group

came with a conclusion to; automate their system. The automation of the system will

give advantages to the company because it will make the computation of bills a lot

easier and more accurate. Processing is faster and more convenient for both the user

and clients. The results of interviews and research study that was conducted by the

researchers lead to form a recommendation of automating the billing and reservation

system of the company. The system will be the one responsible to process all the

transactions.

Cagalawan, (2003), studied and proposed an online hotel reservation for Bacolod

Executive Inn. The findings of the study stressed that some problems exist in their

reservation and c. report generation is time consuming. As the result of investigation

and observation to the existing reservation procedures, the group came with a

conclusion that the Bacolod Executive Inn particularly the reservation must be

developed through an online system for their better service. It will provide advantages

in the part of the establishment because it will increase the number of customers,

minimize the workload of the personnel and the generation of reports on time, and will

provide promotion to the establishment through the website that will highlight the

quality of service they offer. After a detailed study, the researcher’s recommendation is

based on the accurate and relevant information from the data gathered. The proposed

on-line reservation system for the Bacolod Executive Inn provides better service to the

customers. The researcher’s recommendation is based on the accurate and relevant

information from the data gathered. It could improve its current operation as soon as

the proposed systems implementation would take place.

Local Literature

The Web based Information System with online booking, online payment is

designed to help Nippon travel, and tours improve their manual system thru internet

website. The system will be created for booking clients reservation and receiving their

payment thru internet. The information needed shall include the client's desired date,

Destination, preferred airline and the total amount due and payable to Nippon Travel

Agency. The system will be protecting by data access control. Which will restrict the

unauthorized users having access to the database by limiting their access to certain

databases. It retrieves data information for further use. (Cruz, et al, 2017)

According to Aguirre, at al, (2017) online business has

features, restore, Databases and information about the rooms of the hotel that

customers can transact. This article helped the proponents understand more about

web based information systems

Online Hotel Transaction System (OHRS) is efficient and brilliant software, yet

as credit/debit cards. The system can track hotel's performance on a regular basis as

all information concerning payments is updated online and sent to the reservation

manager by means of e-mail. (Delizo, et al, 2018)

As a conclusion, the proponents are planning to include the e-mail

confirmation, where the system will generate a confirmation code that will be sent to

the customers email address for the completion of their transaction process.

Hotel CRS stands for hotel central transaction system and is commonly used

in resort and hotel industry. CRS is a computerized system that revolves around

storage and distribution of information concerning resorts, hotels and host of lodging

facilities. CRS as a tool is used to reach the global distribution system or GDS along

with internet distribution system from a single point system. Hotel managers use this

tool to manage their online sales and marketing revenues. Information includes room

types, room rates, conditions, inventories, plan rate architecture, reservation

information, graphical information in the form of video, pictures and detailed hotel

information like address, phone and fax numbers and geographical code information.

This article discusses about the items needed to create a reservation system.

This helped the proponents understand and learn about the information's that can be

used to develop a system which is more attractive, efficient and dynamic.

(Bituin Abi, 2017) Online Transaction System. Short term base lodging is

the main reason that a hotel has been established. In the Philippines, wherein many

foreign people go and have a vacation, hotel is always their first destination to have

relaxation after long hours of travel in an airplane. Because of rapid increase of

foreigners visiting the Philippines for a vacation, a common sight is the establishments

ad sophisticated hotels for competitive advantage.

As a conclusion, the proponents will provide all the information that can help

customers decide on what type of rooms they are going to reserve.

Flight Transaction System makes the life of passengers very easy, as they do not need

to stand in queues for getting their seats reserved and they can easily make

transaction on any airline just from a single system. On the other hand, it also

removed an extra burden from the Airline Department as most of the passengers and

travel agencies use this service instead of making reservations from the counters. With

the help of the system, customers can view al1 the different flight's availability with

different timings for a particular date and it also allows them to reserve a seat, cancel

a transaction or modify it. The only problem with the system is that it does not allow

the passengers to change the particular part of his or her transaction. The data is

updated immediately to the server because at the same time many users will be

transaction the seats from different places. So each request will be send to the central

server by the software and the server will check the request. If the request can be

granted, the server will give a positive response to the user or else it will indicate an

error message that will be sent back to the user. (Bhargava, 2017)

This article is almost similar to the proposed system of the proponents; the only

difference is the system used in the article is for an aviation company while the

proposed system of the proponents is intended for a hotel. The proponents shall

develop a system that updates every time when a new transaction has been made.

transaction system to its online services, allowing guests to book accommodations

significance for the convenience of the employees and for faster transactions. It must

also reduce time consumption and therefore cut off the hassle for the personnel in

charge and also for the guests. By this, they were able to find some alternative ways to

solve the company's problems. By making a centralized billing system, room

management, and online reservation system, implementing online payments for the

online transaction, creating data archiving of reservation and other transaction to

generate reports. This solution will assist the personnel in charge in the front desk in

terms of fast transaction, secured data archiving, and generating fast sales report.

The article also includes programs that can help the personnel in charge in the

front desk on how to use their proposed system. Thus, the proponents considered

providing user's manual and trainings for Yuj Inn Hostels employees. The user's

manual and trainings can help the employees understand the processes of the

proposed system of the proponents.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY, PROCEDURE AND DESIGN

This chapter presents the methodology that the researcher used. This chapter also

contains the techniques, methods and procedure that the researchers employ to

gather data and the description of the respondents.

RAD Model Methodology

Rapid Application Development (RAD) is the development life cycle designed to give

much faster development and higher-quality results that those achieved with

traditional lifecycle. It is designed to take the maximum advantage of powerful

development software that has evolved recently.

Phases of RAD Model

Requirement Planning Phase - combines elements of the system planning and

systems analysis phase of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Users and

scope, constraints, and system requirements. It ends when the team agree on the key

issues and obtains management authorization to continue.

The researches planned, distributes, questionnaires and conducted an interview on

the BahayniKuya (Big Bro House)

User design phase– during this phase users interact with the system analysis and

develop models and prototypes that represent all the system processes, inputs and

outputs.

The objective of the researches is to create a prototype of the website to be

presented to the respondents.

In this phase, the researchers create a prototype of the website to be present for the

respondents. This will help the researches most of demands and expectations of the

respondents.

Construction Phase – focuses on program and application development task like the

SDLC. In RAD, however, users continue to participate and can still suggest changes or

improvement as actual screens, or reports are developed. It’s task are programming

and application development, coding unit implementation and system testing.

The objective of the researches will modify the prototype according from user’s

feedback and demands.

Cutover phase – Resembles the final task in the SDLC implementation phase,

including data conversion, testing changeover to the new system, and user training.

The new system is built, delivered and placed in operation much sooner.

The objective of the respondents is to make a website that will suit the demand of the

end users and will be published.

very clean this is perfect for the travels.

The Existing System


In the existing system of Big Bro House Cubag Cabagan Isabelais all booking of
rooms in a hotel are done manually so it would take more time for customers and
employees to book. They using Log book instruments recording and managing records.

Proposed in the Existing System


The various processes in the Existing Record are keeping Online Transaction
System of Big Bro House of Cubag Cabagan Isabela.

Hardware Requirements

In the development of the system, a laptop was used with the following
specification: processor Intel Core i3-7020U @ 2.30 GHZ and 4.00GB of RAM

Software Requirements
Software requirements used Windows 10, 2019 (64-bit) Operating System, Sublime
Text as front end (programming language) and MySQL XAMPP bersion 7.4.27 as its
back end (database implementation)

Upon deployment, software requirements used were Windows 10 of Operating


System, Sublime Text.

requirements such as storing if guest records, computation and storing of transaction
of each guest and calculating bills.

2. The Big Bro House Online Transaction System is gotten in putting away information as
it was given a username and secret word in administrator page

3. The Big Bro House Online Transaction System is seen to be practical and usable

Recommendations
