GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT NIGERIAN VISA

Depending on the purpose of your journey to Nigeria, there are different types/classes of visas that are
available to match your need. Generally, a person not a citizen of Nigeria, planning to travel to Nigeria,
whether for the purpose of visit, tourism, study, work or reside permanently, must first obtain a

Certain citizen of a foreign country may be eligible to visit Nigeria without a visa provided they falls
within the categories of persons exempted based on visa free, waiver, reciprocity and bilateral
agreements.

List of countries whose citizens may enter Nigeria without Visa are:

a. ECOWAS Free Movement Protocols

Entry Conditions for ECOWAS Member States – F1A

i. must hold valid travel document to enter Nigeria;


ii. must enter Nigeria through a recognised entry point;
iii. must have means of sustenance while in the country;
iv. must not be in the category of Prohibited Immigrants;
v. must possess return ticket if travelled by air;
vi. must possess International Health Certificate; and

vii. free entry for maximum of 90 days/not valid for employment.

b. VISA Abolition Agreement – F1B

2. Chad Republic 90 days

Entry Conditions for Visa Abolition Agreement – F1B

i. must hold valid travel document to enter Nigeria;


ii. must enter Nigeria through a recognised entry point;
iii. must have means of sustenance while in the country;
iv. must possess return ticket if travelled by air;
v. must not be in the category of Prohibited Immigrants;
vi. free visa entry for maximum of 90 days, is only valid for visit and not for residency or
employment purposes; and
vii. relevant visa for residency, employment or business purposes must be obtained.

c. Visa Waiver for International Organisations – F1C

Holders of Official Travel Documents (Laissez Passer) from the following International Organisations
on official assignments only may visit Nigeria without visa provided they meet certain entry
conditions:

Entry Conditions for Visa Waiver for International Organisations – F1C

i. Must hold Official Travel Document;


ii. Visa-free entry valid for maximum of 90 days; and
iii. Return ticket.

d. Reciprocity Visa Waiver Agreement Countries – F1D

Citizens of the following countries holding Diplomatic or Official Passport can travel to Nigeria
without visa based on Bilateral/Multilateral agreement on the Principle of Reciprocity and certain
entry conditions:

Entry Conditions for Reciprocity Visa Waiver Agreement Countries – F1D

i. must hold Diplomatic or Official travel document;


ii.Visa-free entry valid for maximum of 90 days;
iii.
Visa-free entry not valid for employment;
iv.Evidence of sufficient funds without recourse to public funds/means of sustenance while in the
country; and
v. Return ticket.

While some foreign nationals may be exempted from entry visa for short visit to Nigeria, holders of
Passports of African Union Countries can be issued short visit visa for business and tourism purposes at
the point of arrival without pre-approval. Others can obtain e-Visa for short visit purposes with pre-
approval letter known as electronic Travel Authorization Letter (eTAL).

Generally, foreign citizens who are not exempt from entry visa must obtain their visas at the appropriate
Nigeria Embassy, High Commission or Consulate closest to applicant’s country of residence or via Pre-
Approval e-Visa System for Nigerian Visa.

NIGERIAN VISA CATEGORIES

Before applying, visa applicants must first decide which kind of visa (and status of residence) to apply for
according to the purpose of their visit to Nigeria. The category of visa you must obtain is defined by
Immigration Act and Nigeria VISA Policy, and relates to the purpose of your travel. Nigerian visas are
divided into the following categories:

Short Visit Visa (SVV) – F

Temporary Residence Visa (TRV) – R

Permanent Residence Visa (PRV) – N

Short Visit Visa (SVV) – F

Short Visit Visas allow eligible travelers to visit Nigeria for a period not exceeding three months (90 days)
for the purpose. This can be issued with the right of single or multiple entries. Short visit visas are
divided into various types/classes based on purpose of journey. Available visa classes for short visit to
Nigeria are as tabulated below:

Temporary Residence Visa (TRV) – R

Temporary Residence Visas are classes of visas that allows foreign nationals reside in Nigeria on a
temporary basis, for the purpose of employment, establishment, schooling, internship, and
accompanying employed migrants, students or diplomats as dependants. Available visa classes for
Temporary Residence in Nigeria are as tabulated below:

Permanent Residence Visa (PRV) – N

Permanent Residence Visas allow certain class of individuals to obtain permanent residence status in
Nigeria. It is a long-time residence visa. Type/Class of Permanent Residence are as tabulated below:

F2A – Diplomatic Visa (Non-accredited Diplomat)

F2A Visa is a single-entry short visit visa for non-accredited Diplomats who wish to visit Nigeria for
official business.

Non-accredited Diplomats means:

a. visiting government officials who are not accredited to Nigeria; or


b. foreign government officials on government business in Nigeria.

F2A – Eligibility

F2A visa is available to the following categories of persons:

i. Non-Accredited Diplomats who are on a short visit to Nigeria not exceeding 90 days. They are
not permitted to work. Example include:
a. visiting Diplomats;
b. visiting government officials; and
c. visiting security personnel on government business.
ii. Temporary Work Diplomats who are on a temporary duty tour within the Embassy:
a. Embassy Staff;
b. Attaches; and
c. Security personnel.

F2A – Application Procedure and other Conditions

i. Complete online visa application and make payment here


ii. Submit required documents for F2A visa at the Nigerian Mission or at designated Nigeria Visa
Application Centre in the country of residence.
iii. Duration of permitted stay is 90 days
iv. F2A Visa is not permitted for employment and stay beyond 90 days for non-accredited
Diplomats.
v. F2A Visa permits temporary work not exceeding 90 days within the Embassy for Temporary
Work Diplomats.

F2A visa is issued gratis.

F3 – Transit Visa

F3A – Transit Without Visa

F3B – Transit Visa

F3A Visa is a classification for transfer/direct transit passengers not staying beyond 48 hours. The direct
transit passenger requires no visa.

F3A – Eligibility

i. Direct transit traveler;


ii. Crew members to enable rotation/changeover of crew members for sea vessels or international
airlines scheduled to depart Nigeria territorial waters or airspace within the validity of Transit
without visa in line with international convention guiding maritime and airspace operations

F3A – Requirements

F3A – Application Procedure and other Conditions

i. Transit passenger is permitted to connect flight to the next destination, transfer/direct transit;
ii. Transit passenger is not permitted to go outside the airport; and
iii. Duration of permitted stay for transit passenger is 48 hours

F3B – Transit Visa

F3B Visa is a Transit Visa that allow transit passengers with onward ticket to the next destination and
crew members for sea vessel or international airline to pass through Nigeria before proceeding on the
onward journey.

F3B – Eligibility

i. Transit Passengers who have onward ticket to the next destination where entry is guaranteed
but wishes to enter Nigeria before proceeding on the onward journey; and
ii. Crew members of joining sea vessels or international airlines scheduled to depart Nigeria
territorial waters or airspace for a foreign port within the validity of Transit visa in line with
international convention guiding maritime and airspace operations.

F3B – Requirements

iii. Duration of permitted stay is 7 days.
iv. F3B Visa is not permitted for work and stay beyond 7 days.
v. F3B Visa is valid for only 7 days from the date of issue.
vi. Visa fee is as stated under table of fees.

F4A Visa is a Single-Entry Business Visa issued to foreign nationals seeking to visit Nigeria for short
business needs.

F4A – Eligibility

F4A Visa is available to foreign nationals who wish to visit Nigeria for short business needs, such as
attending:

i. business discussions;
ii. meetings;
iii. conferences;
iv. seminars;
v. contract negotiations;
vi. marketing;
vii. sales;

viii. procurement of Nigerian goods/services;
ix. trade Fairs; and
x. job interviews.

F4A – Requirements

iv. F4A Visa is not permitted for employment.
v. F4A Visa is valid for not more than 30 days from the date of issue at the Mission or 14 days if
processed through the e-Visa Channel.

F4B – Business (Multiple Entry) Visa

F4B Visa is a Multiple-Entry Business Visa issued to foreign nationals on RECIPROCITY basis for the
purpose of regular short business visits to Nigeria.

F4B – Eligibility

F4B Visa is available to Citizens of countries who offer similar multiple entry business visa to Nigerian
citizens. Such multiple entry business visits may include for the purpose of attending:

i. business discussions;
ii. meetings;
iii. conferences;
iv. seminars;
v. contract negotiations;
vi. marketing;
vii. sales;
viii. procurement of Nigerian goods/services;
ix. trade Fairs; and
x. job interviews.

iii. Duration of permitted stay is 90 days per journey (multiple entry) within 2 years period from the
date the visa is granted so long as the passport remains valid.
iv. Number of years to be granted for multiple entry business visa is subject to RECIPROCITY and
passport validity.
v. F4B Visa is not permitted for employment.
vi. F4B Visa is valid for only 90 days from the date of issue at the Mission.

F4C – Business (Frequently Travelled Executives) Visa

F4C Visa is a Business Visa for frequently travelled executives or business persons of international repute
with investment of up to USD250,000 in Nigeria.

F4C – Eligibility

F4C Visa is available to Frequently Travelled Executives or business persons of international repute with
investment up to USD250,000 in Nigeria and wishes to visit Nigeria for the purpose of attending:

i. business discussions;
ii. meetings;
iii. conferences;
iv. seminars;
v. contract negotiations;
vi. marketing;
vii. sales;
viii. procurement of Nigerian goods/services; and
ix. Trade Fairs.

period.
iv. F4C Visa is not permitted for employment.
v. F4C Visa is valid for only 30 days from the date of issue at the Mission, 14 days through e-Visa
and immediate for Visa on Arrival.

F6A Visa is available to foreign nationals wishing to visit Nigeria for the purpose of social visit to family
and friends.

F6A – Requirements

iv. Invitation letter from family/friend in Nigeria attached with copy of Nigerian Passport data page
OR copy of residence permit and passport data page if sponsored by a non-Nigerian;

family and friends only.

F7A Visa is issued to foreign nationals seeking to enter Nigeria for the purpose of media and journalism.
It is a single-entry visa

F7A Visa is available to all foreign nationals wishing to visit Nigeria for the purpose of media and
journalism only.

F7A – Requirements

i. appropriate clearance from the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture;

F7B Visa is issued to religious officials seeking to visit Nigeria for the purpose of religious services like
preaching, religious seminar and religious conference. It is a single-entry visa.

F7B Visa is available to CLERICS only.

F7B – Requirements

i. Letter of invitation from religious body in Nigeria;

care. It is a single-entry visa

i. person(s) in need of medical attention; and


ii. person(s) accompanying medical patient(s).

iii. religious followers

GENERAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION

Travel Document Specification

i. Travel document (Passport) must be valid at least 180 days after the intended date of departure
to Nigeria. If a multiple-entry visa is applied for, the passport must be valid 90 days after the last
intended date of departure; and

Visa at the Embassy: All the classes of Nigerian Visas can be processed and granted at any of the
Nigerian Diplomatic Missions i.e. Embassy, High Commission or Consulate. Applications for Nigerian
Visas can also be submitted and processed through established Visa Application Centres (VAC) operating
in some countries. The centres receive and submit applications on behalf of visa applicants to the
Nigerian Diplomatic Mission for processing and approval. Application procedure includes:

i. Complete online visa application here


ii. Make applicable visa fee payment
iii. Submit required documents at the Embassy/High Commission/Consulate or Visa Application
Centre
iv. Appear for interview or biometric capturing where applicable
v. Obtain visa, if approved.
