Pre-Hardmode

Getting Started
Starting

The player starts out with several items: the Starter Bag, Iron Heart and
Revengeance. The bag contains weapons for each class in the game, as well as Death
and the Defiled Rune. Several of these items toggle unique difficulty modes:
Revengeance Mode and Death Mode are difficulty settings intended to be much more
challenging than Expert Mode, introducing mechanics such as the Rage Meter and
Adrenaline Meter, and new boss mechanics.

The Defiled Rune disables the player's flight time and allows enemies to critically
hit the player, in exchange raising the drop rates of certain items to 5%.
The Iron Heart toggles a mode which permanently kills the player only during boss
fights, similarly to Hardcore mode.
Additionally, the Armageddon item may be crafted at an Altar, which allows bosses
to instantly kill players in one hit but yields multiple Treasure Bags based on the
difficulty mode they are fought in.

Certain mechanics featured by the mod can be changed in the configuration options
file.

Pre-boss exploration

Aside from mining for Ores, Wulfrum Shards are the first material the player should
look for to create armor and weapons.

All Biomes and the majority of Events have unique content added to each of them, so
be sure to check through them for items you may find useful.

Several new structures spawn across the world:

Planetoids spawn in Space, providing items which were otherwise available only in
the Caverns.
The main Planetoid contains a central structure with Cinderplate, Lava and a chest
full of Planters.
Shrines appear in different biomes, each with a unique weapon, accessory or mount
for the player to use.
Ice Tombs spawn in the Ice biome, providing easier access to certain vanilla items.
An Evil Island spawns opposite to the dungeon, containing the World Evil not chosen
by the player and its respective ore, as well as the Biome Chest.

Certain enemies drop vanilla items for convenience:

Crawlers can be found in subterranean areas, dropping their respective gems.
Cosmic Elementals have chances to drop the Bone Sword, Starfury and Arkhalis.

NPCs also sell new items, including summoning items to make re-fighting bosses
easier.
Enemies during Blood Moons drop Blood Orbs, which make crafting potions easier but
require the Alchemy Table from the Dungeon.

Mechanics

Killing enemies or damaging bosses yields proficiency, a new leveling system added
by the mod. While the system isn't necessary to be able to progress, it grants
several minor boosts to the player's stats.

The mod also adds a new Rogue class, which revolves around a stealth mechanic to
deal extra damage.

Several items as well as modifiers have been rebalanced throughout progression.

All other changed mechanics can be referred to here.

Early boss progression

After obtaining as much loot as they can, the player should head to the Underground
Desert to acquire the Victide Bar set and fight the Desert Scourge.
Cnidrions are large dry seahorse-like enemies which fire a barrage of water bolts.
While they are easy to kill by hiding as their bolts cannot penetrate blocks, be
wary as they can fall from above and trap the player in confined areas.
Stormlions should be slain as they drop Stormlion Mandibles, which are necessary
for the boss's summoning item.
When the Desert Scourge is defeated, the player may descend farther into the desert
to enter the Sunken Sea.
The blocks in this area cannot be mined until the boss is defeated.
In the Sunken Sea, most enemies are largely passive and will not attack the player
unless provoked. The Giant Clam is a powerful miniboss that resides in this biome.
The Sea King will spawn upon its defeat.
The Sea King sells many useful weapons as well as granting the Amidias' Blessing
buff allowing underwater breathing.
After the Eye of Cthulhu, the player can then go after Crabulon.
If a Glowing Mushroom biome has not been discovered yet, a Mushroom Planetoid can
alternatively be used to build a small arena.
Aside from the usual weapons, Crabulon also drops a Mushroom Plasma Root in
Revengeance Mode, which increases the damage of the Rage Mode buff by 15% / 50%.
After defeating the Eater of Worlds/Brain of Cthulhu (and optionally, Queen Bee and
the Old One's Army), the The Hive Mind/The Perforators can be challenged.
The two are initially summoned by destroying either a Hive Cyst or Perforator Cyst
depending on the boss.
Defeating either one will generate Aerialite Ore in the world and cause Aero Slimes
to spawn in the Cavern layer. This is used for the Aerialite set, which will also
require Clouds, Sunplate Blocks, and the Sky Mill to craft.
Late boss progression
The next goal of the player should be to fight Skeletron and visit the Dungeon.
While the Ancient Shiv is currently the only new item at this point in the
progression, the Shadow Key will be required during the trip to the Abyss.
The Abyss is a large biome which sits right next to the Dungeon. While optional, it
contains valuable loot which will prove to be useful against the next pair of
bosses.
The player should build a house with a bed near the area, for the sake of
convenience.
Be sure to equip as many swimming accessories and buffs as you can, as they will
help in survivability. An Arctic Diving Gear is available in the Ice Tomb structure
if you haven't obtained one yet.
The Sulphurous Sea acts as the entrance to the biome. Trashers, Gnashers and the
poisonous waters may serve as hazards, the main goal is to reach the bottom and
swim through the hole.
Using the Shadow Key, the Shadow Chests should be opened to obtain several weapons,
accessories and other helpful tools.
Minions do not target enemies until they are hurt, so it is suggested to use either
a weak weapon or the Marked Magnum to deal the initial damage in order to target
them to avoid the damage penalty.
Abyss Gravel can be mined with the Nightmare Pickaxe or Deathbringer Pickaxe,
albeit very slowly.
Entering the deeper parts is not recommended due to the multiple powerful enemies
that may spawn in the area.
Afterwards, the player may be able to defeat The Slime God.
While this boss can be skipped and fought later, the loot and the crafted Statigel
set is considered valuable against the final boss of this section of the game.
The boss also drops the Electrolyte Gel Pack in Revengeance Mode, reducing the time
the Adrenaline Meter takes to fill up by 10 seconds.
The last step is to prepare for and defeat the Wall of Flesh, and then enter
Hardmode.
Be wary as the mod changes lava mechanics, buffing the hazard and removing full
immunity. If this is not preferred, the player may disable this in the
configuration options.
While not as useful in the Calamity Mod, all of the Pre-HM Underworld loot can be
located in the Shadow Chests of the Brimstone Crag. Be careful as the enemies in
the area can be very dangerous.
Aside from new weapons, the boss also drops a Rogue Emblem for the rogue class and
a Demon Trophy which increases the world's enemy spawn rates by 1.25.
Hardmode
Multiple Hardmode drops may now be made via crafting or dropped more frequently
using the Defiled Rune such as the Rod of Discord.
Several vanilla bosses have been made non-linear in progression:
Plantera can be fought early by crafting the Portabulb.
The Temple Key can now be crafted before Plantera is defeated, and Golem can be
summoned early as well with the Old Power Cell.
The Lunatic Cultist can be summoned pre-Golem via the Eidolon Tablet.
The Steampunker NPC spawns as soon as Hardmode begins, making the Clentaminator
available earlier.
The Drunk Princess NPC will move in if the player has Fabsol's Vodka in their
inventory.
The Cloud Elemental and Earth Elemental now spawn in Space and the Cavern layer,
serving as hazards to the unsuspecting player.
New enemies spawn in the Sunken Sea and the Giant Clam miniboss is buffed, gaining
new attacks as well as dropping Mollusk Husks.
The Astral Infection spawns into the world, featuring powerful enemies which drop
Stardust which may be used for the Comet Shard which increases mana by 50 as well
as other items.
Aside from consuming Life Fruit, the Blood Orange may also be crafted and consumed
to permanently increase health by 25.
Early-Hardmode boss progression
Three new bosses become available: Cryogen, Brimstone Elemental and Aquatic
Scourge. The three of them are fought between each Mechanical Boss fight, but the
player may choose to fight them in any order.
The three bosses also drop Souls of Might, Fright and Sight respectively.
Defeating Cryogen spawns Cryonic Ore in the Ice biome for the Daedalus set.
The Archmage NPC spawns as well and sells various items and weapons.
Frigid Bars also allow the player to craft the Moonlight and then the Cosmolight,
which gives players control over the day/night cycle.
Items such as the Angel Treads and MOAB become available after all three types of
boss Souls have been obtained.
The second tier of the Old One's Army may also be fought, as the Sentry accessories
are recommended for Summoners.
After all six bosses have been defeated, the player can choose to fight either
Calamitas or Plantera.
Defeating either one will cause new materials to be dropped in the Abyss.
The middle area of the Abyss may now be explored, in order to hunt for Depth Cells,
Lumenyl, and dig for Tenebris.
Post-Plantera boss progression
The Great Sand Shark may now spawn during a Sandstorm, providing Grand Scales used
to craft items.
The Armored Digger may appear in the Cavern layer, posing as a possibly dangerous
threat.
It drops Draedon's Remote, which summons the Mechanical Boss trio with buffed
stats.
The next bosses to fight are Siren and Leviathan and Astrum Aureus.
Defeating Astrum Aureus causes the Astral enemies to gain increased stats and drop
unique weapons.
The Astral Biome Chest also unlocks in the Dungeon, providing the Rogue class its
own unique item.
The Miracle Fruit may also be crafted, increasing the player's health by 25.
In Revengeance Mode, the Starlight Fuel Cell is dropped which lowers the time
Adrenaline takes to recharge by 10 seconds.
After Golem is defeated, the player may visit the Abyss again to mine for Chaotic
Ore for the Chaotic set.
Players may now fight the final tier of the Old One's Army to obtain powerful
upgrades, including Vesuvius in Revengeance Mode.
Several plague-related enemies including the Plaguebringer miniboss also begin to
spawn in the Jungle, providing Plague Cell Canisters.
The player may then fight The Plaguebringer Goliath, Duke Fishron, Ravager and the
Lunatic Cultist afterwards.
Ravager drops the Infernal Blood in Revengeance Mode, increasing Rage Mode damage
by 15% / 50%.
Before fighting Moon Lord, the player may slay three Atlases in the Astral
Infection to summon and battle Astrum Deus.
Defeating Astrum Deus allows the player to mine the Astral Ore at the meteor in the
biome and craft weapons as well as the Ethereal Core, boosting the player's mana by
50.
Post-Moon Lord
Upon defeating the Moon Lord, several things will occur:
Moon Lord drops a Celestial Onion, which increases the player's accessory slots to
six / seven.
Several items can now be crafted with Luminite:
Many elemental themed weapons for all five classes can be obtained.
Seraph Tracers, which allows for the combination of Wings and Boots can be crafted.
Xeroc armor can be made as a Rogue alternative to the Lunar Fragment armors.
Astrum Aureus will begin dropping Lunar Fragments.
In Revengeance Mode, it will be buffed and additionally drop the Suspicious Looking
Jelly Bean mount.
Several Profaned enemies will begin to spawn in both the Hallow and Underworld
biomes.
Phantom Spirits will begin to spawn in the dungeon similarly to Dungeon Spirits
that drop Phantoplasm, which can be crafted into Supreme Mana Potions.
Exodium Clusters will begin to spawn on Planetoids that can be used to make
extremely powerful accessories.
The Profaned Guardians, Bumblebirb, and Polterghast can now be challenged, although
it is recommended that Polterghast be fought later on.
Defeating Bumblebirb will grant access to Effulgent Feathers, which can be crafted
into the Dragon Egg that is used to summon Jungle Dragon, Yharon, although it is
highly recommended that the Player waits to fight him until The Devourer of Gods
has been defeated.
The Red Lightning Container is dropped by Bumblebirb in Revengeance Mode which is
the third and final Rage upgrade, increasing Rage Mode damage by 15% / 50%.
The Rune of Kos can be crafted that is used to summon the three Sentinels of the
Devourer, although it is also recommended that they are fought post-Providence.
Once The Profaned Guardians are defeated, they will drop a Profaned Core, which is
used to summon Providence, the Profaned Goddess.
Post-Providence, the Profaned Goddess
The Uelibloom set is now available, allowing the Player to obtain Tarragon armor.
An Elderberry can now be crafted which further again increases the player's max
life by 25 HP.
Several previous bosses become buffed and will now drop Bloodstone, which is used
to create some of the items in the Bloodstone set.
In Revengeance Mode, the Brimstone Elemental will also now drop the Brimrose, which
is a powerful mount that allows for infinite flight.
The Ravager will also now drop its Expert mode item, the Bloodflare Core.
Providence will drop the Rune of Kos, which is used to fight the three Sentinels of
the Devourer.
Storm Weaver is fought in Space.
Ceaseless Void is fought in the Dungeon.
Signus, Envoy of the Devourer is fought in the Underworld.
Polterghast is now recommended to be fought, and upon its death, the bottom layer
of the Abyss will open up, allowing the player to obtain several powerful weapons
and accessories.
Polterghast enrages at the surface, so the player probably shouldn't lead it out of
the Dungeon.
Polterghast will drop the final Adrenaline upgrade in Revengeance Mode, the
Ectoheart, which decreases the Adrenaline timer by 5 seconds.
Polterghast will also drop Ruinous Souls, which is used to craft Bloodflare armor,
Omega Blue armor, several additional weapons, and the Phantom Heart, which is the
final mana upgrade.
Tarragon, Bloodflare, and Omega Blue armor are all viable at this point, it is the
player's decision on which armor to use.
Upon defeating all three Sentinels of the Devourer, the Cosmic Worm can now be
crafted, which is used to summon The Devourer of Gods.
Post-The Devourer of Gods
After defeating The Devourer of Gods, both the Frost Moon and the Pumpkin Moon are
immensely buffed, with the Ice Queen now dropping Endothermic Energy, and the
Pumpking now dropping Nightmare Fuel.
The player can also craft the Elysian Tracers prior to facing off against the
buffed moons to help give an additional speed boost.
After fighting one of the buffed moons, several weapons can be crafted with
Cosmilite and Endothermic Energy / Nightmare Fuel which can help when fighting the
second buffed moon.
Combining Cosmilite Bars, Endothermic Energy, Nightmare Fuel, and the Hardmode
crafting stations, the Draedon's Forge can be crafted, which will grant the player
access to the many high tiers of items available in the Calamity Mod.
With this, God Slayer armor as well as the Cosmilite set can now be crafted, as
well as several powerful accessories and weapons.
Now, Jungle Dragon, Yharon should be challenged.
Post-Jungle Dragon, Yharon Phase 1
Once Yharon reaches 10 percent health, Yharon will fly away and leave some of his
drops.
Additionally, the Solar Eclipse is massively buffed, with Mothrons now dropping
Darksun Fragments.
Darksun Fragments are used to create Silva armor as well as several new weapons.
A Dragonfruit can now be crafted which is the final health upgrade, increasing the
player's max life by 25 HP.
After killing a buffed Mothron and collecting some new gear, Yharon should be re-
challenged.
Post-Jungle Dragon, Yharon Phase 2
Yharon will drop Drew's Wings, allowing the player to trade off sprinting abilities
with a massive boost to flight time and acceleration.
Yharon will also drop the Terminus item, which starts the Boss Rush event, although
it is recommended that this be challenged once Supreme Calamitas has been defeated.
The Auric set is now available, allowing the player to obtain Auric Tesla armor.
The Eye of Extinction can also be crafted, which is used to summon Supreme
Calamitas.
Post-Supreme Calamitas
The Shadowspec endgame-tier set can now be crafted, allowing the player to obtain
Demonshade armor, and can be used to face off against the Boss Rush with.
Upon defeating the Boss Rush, the player can obtain a special reward, with most
playthroughs ending at this point.
The Endgame
The Calamity Mod is an ever-changing project, with more content to come in the
future for both the current progression of the Mod and beyond Supreme Calamitas. At
this point, the player has several options of where to keep going, including
playing other mods or starting over their adventure with the Calamity Mod as a
different class.
