ADJECTIVULUI
There are two types of adjectives in English when discussing about comparative
rules. = Exista doua tipuri de adjective in limba engleza atunci cand vorbim despre
Regulile de Comparatie.
· short adjectives (one syllable word = cuvinte de o singura silaba) => the
comparative grades will be added to the word directly = gradele de
comparatie vor fi adaugate direct cuvantului
· long adjectives (more than two syllable word = adjective de mai mult de
doua silabe) => the comparative will be another word to assist with the
meaning. = comparativul va fi format printr-un alt cuvant (sau mai multe
cuvinte) adaugate adjectivului
EX: intelligent = inteligent => mai inteligent decat = more intelligent than
· positive = gradul pozitiv = when the adjective is exactly like you find it in
the dictionary = este exact asa cum e in dictionar
OBS!!!
EX: old, new, nice, ugly, long, tall, poor, rich, wealthy,hard, etc.
OBS!!! The adjectives that have a final "y" when adding the "er" syllable to form
the comparative of superiority, it will be transformed in "i". = Adjectivele scurte
care au un "y" la final de cuvant, in momentul adaugarii silabei "er" pentru
formarea comparativului de superioritate, se va transforma in "i".
OBS!!! The adjectives that have a final "-e" when adding the "-er" syllable to
form the comparative of superiority, it will be deleted. = Adjectivele scurte care
au un "e"final atunci cand se adauga silaba "-er", va fi sters si se va adauga doar
silaba "-er".
· far => further = pe mai departe => further on => mai incolo (ca timp)
EXERCISE
1. Come in, friends! This restaurant is (good) = better than any other one.
2. I am getting more and (excited) = more excited. I am going to get my gift soon:
a gorgeous watch.
3. He is (happy) = happier than Tom is. He doesn't live in a great mansion devoid
of life.
4. This one is (cheap) = cheaper than the teddy bear you bought last week.
5. He is getting more and (anxious) = more anxious: he applied for a job and he
hasn't got an answer yet.
6. I am really glad, you know. Even (glad) = glader than you think. It has been
ages since we both left college.
