The 3M range of Half and Full Face Reusable Respirators and Filters offer top value
and top quality.
3M™ Reusable Respirators let you change your filters to protect against particulates, gases
and vapours, while using the same respirator time after time. This is made possible by the
unique 3M™ Bayonet Filter Fixing System which allows filters to just be clicked into place.
3M’s wide range of Respirators means there's one to suit almost every individual.
The lightweight 3M™ Half and Full Face Respirator 6000 Series offer safety, comfort and
ease of use, while the 3M™ Half Face Respirator 7500 Series sets the standard in wearer
comfort along with outstanding durability, quality and ease of use.
All 3M Reusable Respirators and Filters have been tested and meet the relevant
Australian Standard AS/NZS1716

How do Gas and Vapour Filters work?

These filters rely on sorbent material to “soak up” the gas and vapour molecules.
Typically the sorbent is carbon grain which has been specially treated. Depending on
the chemical treatment of the carbon surface, this material will absorb different types
of gases or vapours.
AS/NZS1716 uses a classification system to identify the different types of contaminants
these treated carbon grains will capture e.g:
A Organic Vapours (boiling point > 65ºC)
B Inorganic Gases
E Acid Gases
K Ammonia
Hg Mercury
G Organic Compounds with low vapour pressures

How long do Gas and Vapour filters last?

Gas and Vapour Filters are rated according to their absorbent capacity.
In increasing capacity, the ratings are: Class Aus, Class1, 2 or 3. This means we can
have an A1 or a B2 or a multi-gas type filter, like an A1B1E1K1.
The service life (i.e. how long will it last) of any Gas and Vapour Filter is affected by
many factors - some being: concentration and identity of contaminants, breathing
rates, humidity levels, ventilation, temperature, type of carbon exposure time etc.

What guidance do we have in selecting

the correct respirator and filters?
The Australian Standard AS/NZS1715 provides guidance in the selection, use and
maintenance of respiratory protective devices.
There is also guidance available in the 3M Respirator Selection Handbook (available from
your 3M OH&ES representative), the following Selection Guide, or directly from the 3M
TechAssist Helpline on 1800 024 464, or website: www.3m.com/au/ohs

3M Fit Test Kits
™

Fit test kits, solutions and adaptors

Fit-testing ensures an initial good fit for respiratory protection. The largest contributor
to reduced protection is poor fit.
The 3M™ FT-10 and FT-30 Qualitative Fit Test Apparatus are designed for fit-testing
any negative-pressure respirator e.g 3M™ Disposable and Reusable Respirators.
The initial fit-test is normally conducted at a training session when introducing new
respiratory protective equipment. Regular repeat testing at a later date will
help maintain good fit.

Qualitative Fit Test Apparatus Kits

The 3M™ Qualitative Fit Test Apparatus Kits can be used with any particulate respirator or
gas and vapour respirator with a particulate filter to test face seal fit.
• The Kits contain: laminated instruction booklet, Sensitivity Solution FT-11 or FT-31,
Fit Test Solution FT-12 or FT-32, Two nebulizers FT-13, One hood FT-14, One collar

™

3M™ Gas Diffusion Monitors are simple and effective devices that collect certain airborne
contaminants using the principle of diffusion. They assist in the assessment of workplace
contaminants, both personal and background.
3M does not provide analysis of Diffusion Monitors, however we can provide assistance
in directing you to approved and/or NATA registered laboratories with experience of
Diffusion Monitor analysis.
