THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTINGS


Introduction

Mathematics is the science of structure, order, and relationship that those

from primitive activities of counting, measuring, and describing object shapes.

It engages with logical thinking and quantitative calculations, and as it has

progressed, its subject matter has become increasingly idealized and

abstracted. However, according to researcher observations, several aspects

that affect home-based learning in mathematics in elementary pupils during

this new normal education are problem solving, teaching, task, and

examination, all of which require intervention.

In addition, the body of knowledge and practice known as mathematics is

derived from the contributions of thinkers throughout the ages and across the

globe. It gives us a way to understand patterns, to quantify relationships, and

to predict the future. Math helps us understand the world — and we use the

world to understand math. Understanding the world also means appreciating

the contributions of benefit from studying numbers systems that are rooted in

other cultures, such the Mayan and Babylonian systems, a base 20 and base

60 system, respectively.

A good curriculum of mathematics is helpful in effective teaching and

learning of the subject show more content. The Philippines is the last country

in Asia to implement the 12-year basic education program. Before the K to 12

Program, it was one of three countries in the world with a 10-year pre-
university cycle. For Filipino graduates to be able to compete globally and to

adopt education standards that are recognized worldwide, the K to 12

Program was implemented through the Enhanced Basic Education Act of

2013.The framework of the mathematics curriculum aims to develop critical

thinking and problem-solving skills. As a skills subject, mathematics provides

a solid foundation for necessary concepts and life skills Filipino learners

develop in basic education.

Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the student’s

weakness affecting to the home -based learning in mathematics of students

during this new normal education. It also helps to the both parents and

teacher to enhance the teaching straggles and to deliver knowledge to the

students and able to acquire clear understanding about the lesson. The

purposed of this study aimed to find out the Intervention program towards the

home-based learning of mathematics of elementary students during this new

normal education as perceived by Students of Cajanedo Elementary School.


Statement of the Problem

Generally, this study was conducted to determine the home-based

learning in elementary mathematics during new normal education

Significant of the study

The result of the study could the following:

School administrator. To determine ether the home -base learning in

mathematics has an impact to the new normal education of Cajanedo

elementary school pupils. As well as to provide intervention program and to

guide both teacher on how to acquire knowledge from the lesson.

Teachers. To monitor nether the students, gain additional knowledge and

what was the gap between current situation or performance.


Parents. The result will help them to monitor their child about the problem

should need to enhance in the curriculum

Future researchers. To serve as a basis on conducting further research

related to this study.

Scope and delimitation

This study will be thirty (30) elementary pupils Ten (10) pupils from Grade

4 another Ten (10) pupils from Grade 5 and Ten (10) pupils from Grade 6 of

Cajanedo elementary school at Porok Masagana, Sitio Cajanedo, Barangay

Teresita, Sto Niño South Cotabato. For the selected participants, the

researcher will use descriptive evaluative.

This researcher will be conducted to determine the effect of new normal

education to the mathematics learning of the student.

Theoretical Framework

Homeschooling – that is, parent-led home-based education; home

education – is an age-old traditional educational practice that a decade ago

appeared to be cutting-edge and “alternative” but is now bordering on

“mainstream” in the United States. It may be the fastest-growing form of

education in the United States. Home-based education has also been growing

around the world in many other nations (Ray 2021)

Homeschooling (home education, home-based education, home school)

and have acquired an extensive bibliography on it. A recent thorough search of

available literature has resulted in identifying only two published items relevant to

the question posed in this paper – one original research study report and one

article using publicly available data.

Just like the typical face-to-face classroom learning, students’

engagement would be enhanced when student–teacher relationships are strong.

There is student engagement when students perceive the teacher to be

supportive, effective, and knowledgeable (Bond & Bedenlier 2019).


DEFINITION OF TERMS

Home-Base Learning - is an educational process where parents or tutors

teach children at home, instead of having them formally educated in a public or

provided school setting.

New Normal Education - Its flexibility enables individuals to learn at their

own pace as they prepare for their future. It is fit in the time of the COVID-19

pandemic as it ensures that learners will be able to continue their educational

journey at home.

Intervention Program - is a treatment method used by the mental health

community, and utilized in a number of ways to better the situation of individuals

who have become dependent on various substances or activities

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents the review of related literature and readings to

related to study gathered from the sources like books, magazines, articles,

published and non – published theses and internet sources, thus give insights to

researcher’s work.

FOREIGN LITERETURE

Zhang & Jiang 2020, When parents and children work together on

learning activities, their bonding strengthens because they are able to spend

more time together. In such situations, parents can become a source of comfort

for their children by soothing their discomfort and stress. They can also

participate in dialogues with their children to help them cope with their

nervousness. Parents should be taught how to provide emotional support to their

children during times of uncertainty.

Struggling students sometimes grow irritated and discouraged in difficult

courses such as mathematics and physics. Traditional methods of instruction

take all students through the curriculum at the same rate, regardless of mastery.

Individual children are frequently overlooked by classroom teachers, who have

limited time to assist them, and pupils frequently have no one at home to turn to

for help. The final consequence is student dissatisfaction, which leads to

incomplete homework assignments and bad test scores. Low academic self-

efficacy and a loss of interest and effort are common outcomes of such repeated

(Bandura 2010).
Parents' abilities, problems, and needs in distant learning environments

must be thoroughly examined as clear stakeholders in their children's academic

progress. In light of the broad and quick move to remote learning in response to

the COVID-19 epidemic, it's important to look into parents' experiences and

demands in this setting. Apart from that, throughout the last year pandemic,

online education has been identified as one of the fastest-growing educational

trends in addition. To our knowledge, this is the first study to examine the effects

of school closures on parents. In this online learning environment, a study of

parents' experiences and problems may generate helpful data and reveal trends

that may be used to drive the development of programs and policies that address

parental needs. In light of these recognized demands, the goal of this research is

to uncover self-identified challenges and struggles parents have had while

participating in their children's remote learning during the COVID-19 school

transitions from traditional classroom learning environments in the Spring of

2020. (Watson 2011).

According to Sorensen's 2012, The most problematic and beneficial parts

of online learning for parents’ study, are keeping their children on track while

completing coursework and interactions with the child's online teachers.

Furthermore, schools and instructors just lack the resources necessary to

promote parental engagement, particularly through the efficient use of

technology.

In addition, Sullivan 2020, In the case of mathematics education, there

were fears that learning mathematics outside of the classroom could sabotage
inquiry-based approaches to learning mathematics in a variety of ways point out

that detailed explanations followed by repeated practice are conducive to the use

of video technology, particularly instructional videos that may be prepared ahead

of time and shared via a weblink. Inquiry-based approaches to learning

mathematics, on the other hand, necessitate student-centered, mathematically

rigorous discussions centered on students' experiences working on problems.

Furthermore, Livy and Sullivan 2021, Discovered that primary teachers

who had taken part in a professional development program centered on inquiry-

based ways to learning mathematics were less willing to enable fruitful struggle in

remote learning environments. The lack of a teacher-facilitated, synchronous

learning environment and parents' negative attitudes regarding struggle when

studying mathematics were the two main explanations offered for this reluctance.

interaction is all taken into account in online learning. Students took part in a

blended learning course in which formative assessment was employed to

evaluate student learning outcomes using a learning management system and a

variety of different learning activities.

students and teachers engage via an online system. Students are trained and

instructed using an online system, and their teachers may be in the same

building as them.
Practitioners and scholars from all over the world have been attempting to

figure out how ERE has been implemented, in order to figure out how to

effectively engage kids in learning when they are at home during this

tremendously challenging period. It is critical to investigate how all stakeholders

integrate home learning (Andrew 2020).

However, there have been requests for more research into a number of

areas that appear to have been absent during this first epidemic period, including

investigating the impact of parents and home knowledge in student learning

(Richmond 2020).

The amount of effort and energy that students put out in their learning

community, as measured by a variety of behavioral, cognitive, and affective

indicators across time. A variety of structural and internal variables, such as the

intricate interaction of relationships, learning activities, and the learning

environment, shape it. The more students are engaged and empowered within

their learning community, the more likely they are to channel that energy back

into their learning, leading to a range of short- and long-term outcomes, that can

likewise further fuel engagement (Bond 2020).

A cognitively stimulating home learning environment typically has been

defined as including a broad array of possible activities and interactions with

others (Crosnoe & Cooper 2010).

information through their participation in home activities beginning of formal


schooling; this information serves as a foundation for the development of math

skills after kids enter school.

been closed to deal with the global pandemic. While governments, frontline

workers, and health officials do their utmost to contain the spread, educational

systems strive to provide high-quality education to all students during these

tough times. Many students have experienced psychological and emotional

hardship at home/living environment and have been unable to interact

successfully. The greatest online homeschooling techniques have yet to be

discovered.

According to Bernardo 2013, The most common type of distance learning

is modular learning. This learning method is currently used by all public schools
in the Philippines because, according to a survey conducted by the Department

of Education (DepEd), learning through printed and digital modules is the most

preferred distance learning method among parents with children enrolled this

academic year.

are difficult to teach and learn, which is why classroom education should be

developed with a variety of instructional tools. The teacher will require

manipulative and concrete resources to develop concepts and principles in a

meaningful way. In most cases, the teacher fills a variety of tasks, and it is clear

from these that the teacher is the one in charge of creating the best possible

learning environment for mathematics. Teachers should have a wide range of


instructional resources to support him in the performance of his many roles in

order to cope with these varying roles.

According to Jaramillo 2010, As teachers, we must always endeavor to

establish a stimulating learning environment and retain students' high levels of

interest. We should employ a range of incentive approaches, teaching

methodologies, and resources to accomplish this. The utilization of these items

contributes to a student's desire to study. These instructional materials are also

great for brainstorming ideas, finding and utilizing information for tasks, and

identifying and solving problems on your own or with a group.

faced by students afflicted by Covid-19 on a daily basis.

low-income backgrounds may be unable to put in the effort necessary to obtain

the learning aids required to succeed, which may be the source of most students'

learning difficulties at home. This is true in many parts of Indonesian schools. In

an ideal world, all stakeholders would work together to close the learning gap

among Indonesian students.

remote instruction and online modality leads to hints in improving contemporary

methods while ensuring that these efforts are judged beneficial. It is critical to pay

close attention to TPD is important, especially in times of epidemic, because it

allows teachers to improve their educational skills, techniques, whether they're

given online or not.

benefits.

lectures. Finally, Blended Learning combines instructional technologies with real-

world job responsibilities to create a balanced education.


Synthesis

This study pertained to the home-based learning in elementary

mathematics during new normal education: basis for intervention program, it

intended to determine their home-base learning status in this pandemic.

During this new normal education, which may minimize the

emergence of the problem, it directly affects the students’ learning capabilities

and student’s behavior, during social isolation in the pandemic period. In this

sense, the elementary teacher’s is classified as the professional who can provide

guidance and monitoring and also by the help of the parents, so that the practice

of home-base learning in mathematics is done correctly and the students have

learned a lesson. Among the strategies of the teachers and parents are used in

this home-base learning in this new normal education in social isolation, classes,

and orientation stand out remotely, elementary teacher and also the parents

provide monitoring and information on how to practice the right thing to do in their

module. This practice should be part of student’s routine before answering or

even do their task, so they can improve their learning strategies and develop

their skills in this new normal education.

Involvement in students’ learning has a huge role in the development of

pupil’s overall behavior. It molds their personality as a Yung age learner,

especially in hone where their teachers are not around to guide them because of

this pandemic. Even their teachers are not around them able to improve not only

in dealing whit their academic responsibilities but also to non-academic and co-

curricular responsibilities by the help of their parents who guided them every day.
Chapter III

METHODOLOGY

The chapter III enclosed the methods and procedures of the research

made. This consists of Six (6) parts. Research Design, Research Locale,

Research Respondents and Sampling Technique, Research Instrument, Data

Gathering Procedure, Statistical treatment.

Research Design

The study utilized the descriptive evaluative design describe the process

and impact of the development and implementation of a system. The findings are

often contextualized within the implementation environment., such as – for our

purpose – the specific educational place. Descriptive evaluations utilize a variety

of qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods; and the

study design can apply a range of assumptions, from positive or intersperses

perspectives, to critical theory and critical realism. These studies are in order to

determine the home-base learning in elementary mathematics during new normal

education Thirty (30) respondents will answer the optional self – made ministered

on online questionnaire developed by the researcher.

Research Locale

The researcher was conducted at Cajanedo Elementary School. The

school is located in Purok Masagana, Sitio Cajanedo, Brgy Teresita, Sto Nino,

South Cotabato. From which the Cajanedo Elementary School emerge and

which was spear headed by the school is committed to providing comprehensive

education that would generate quality graduates, grantee and authorize the
intelligent development of a different community of students. The student’s

population came from different location near in the school. The population of the

school is moderate in order to determine the home-base learning in elementary

mathematics during new normal education the researcher personally choose the

institution.

Research Respondents and Sampling Technique

The respondents of this research study were Thirty (30) pupils from Grade

4, 5 and 6 who were actively involved in home-base learning in elementary

mathematics for the chosen school. The pupils are enrolled in Cajanedo

Elementary School, School Year 2021-2022. The researchers used descriptive

evaluative in getting their number of respondents. The respondents of the study

were determined using Descriptive evaluative.

Research Instrument

The researcher-made questionnaire as the main tool in gathering data.

The questionnaire dealt with the home-base learning in elementary

mathematics during new normal education: basis for intervention program.

There were a number of options for their answer provided in the check

boxes. There were questions to be answered determine to the home-base

learning in elementary mathematics during new normal education: basis for

intervention program.
Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher sent a letter of permission to the college education

program to collect the data needed for this report. Immediately after the

application was granted, the researcher asked the principal of Cajanedo

Elementary School for the copy of the list of pupils enrolled in the academic year

2021-2022. The investigator sent the online questionnaire through via messenger

to the selected respondents.

The researcher sent the questionnaire online to the respondents. Retrieval

of the instrument followed after the respondents done answering the researcher

expressed her/his application for the collaboration commitment and time

extended by the students, faculty and stuff institution after all was accomplish.

Statistical Treatment

The following statistical tools were used to interpret the raw data:

To determine the home-base learning in elementary mathematics during

new normal education: frequency count and weighted mean was used to

calculate an appropriate sample size from a population to strengthen the validity

of research.
