PERFORMANCE TASK

WHAT IS PHOTOSYNTHESIS?

Photosynthesis stems from the two words photo meaning light and synthesis meaning together.
So, it literally means using light to put things together. In this case, the light refers to sunlight. Plants
take in are much like animals. They have tiny holes in their “skin” that can only be seen under a
microscope. They use those holes to breathe in a chemical called carbon dioxide. Plants also take in
water through their roots . Lastly, tiny cells found in plants, called chloroplasts. Take in water, light, and
carbon dioxide and turn them into sugar and oxygen. This is used as food for the plants and also put into
the atmosphere for humans and animals to breather. This entire process is called PHOTOSYNTHESIS.

TWO SIMILAR PLANTS ARE PLACED IN DIFFERENT PLACES:

A is placed outside the house where it can receive enough sunlight

B is inside a room where it cannot receive sunlight

DAY 1

The plant A and B are both look healthy, thick and green.

DAY 2

The plant A looks the same: the color of its leaves is still green and thick. Plant B on the other
hand, has lightened its color and became thinner and a bit harder than the last time.

DAY 3

The plant A looks the same, the color of its leaves is still green and thick. Plant B on the other
hand, maintains its color like in day 2

DAY 4

The plant A looks the same: the color of its leaves is still green and thick. Plants B on the other
hand, has lightened its color a bit more, its leaves starting to lose its vivacity

DAY 5

The plant A looks the same; the color of its leaves is still green and thick. Plants B on the other
hand the leaves become more yellowish.
DAY 6

The plant A looks the same; the color of its leaves is still green and thick. Plants B on the other
hand the leaves fall of one after the other

DAY 7

The plants A become more healthy its still looks the same. Plants B on the other hand, the plants
die due to a lack of sunlight.

Analysis

Plant photosynthesis and their rate of photosynthesis mainly depends on the intensity of lights.
Plants that grow in high light and low light conditions show different adaptation to perform
photosynthesis. When a plant is placed in the dark room it will not get any light from sun and it will not
perform the process called photosynthesis. Eventually the leaves will turn yellow and the plant will dry
up and then die. When a plant is placed in light it will utilize sunlight and a special pigment molecule
known as chlorophyll. Sunlight is an important aspect; plants grow under light conditions. The plant’s
leave are developed at angles to exposed and capture to higher concentration of light intensities.

Conclusion

I concluded that when the plant doesn’t receive sunlight, the color of its leaves will turn yellow
and it will die on the other day.
