1. Do you think the Church has faithfully responded to the challenge to act justly
and love mercy? (context of act justly and love mercy: in lesson 1 in our Learning
Packet "Sources of Social Doctrine")
Yes, it has responded to the challenge to act justly and with love and mercy, and
to teach the same qualities to the community. The church teaches us to share our
blessings to those who are less fortunate, and that every person is made in the image of
God and that all of us are equal. Thus, it is our duty as Christians to alleviate the
suffering of those who are experiencing the injustices that the cruel and unfair society is
inflicting on them; it is our duty to enable them to experience the same blessings that we
do.
But the fact of the matter is; one does not really need to be a lawyer in order to help
people. A Christian, no matter what the profession, should be one who helps his fellows
in order to make a peaceful and orderly community within God’s world. For me, being a
good Christian has always been about fighting for what is right; to come to the aid and
protect those who are oppressed and being slighted by the evil desires of people. As a
Christian community, it should become a normal practice for us to give and share to our
fellow Christians, and even to those of other faiths. We should learn to accept that we
are all people that have been created by our Lord and none should be denied access to
His Kingdom. I believe this to be what our Lord and Savior would want us to do.
