2020 KOICA Scholarship Program Fellows

Guidelines for Entry to Korea


Dear 2020 KOICA Scholarship Program (SP) Fellows,

First of all, thank you for your active participation and cooperation during
KOICA’s 2020 Fall Semester Online Scholarship Program.

KOICA continues our efforts to provide our fellows with the best SP
experience amidst the COVID-19 crisis. As a result, we have decided to
resume entry of our fellows to the Republic of Korea, which has been
suspended since August of this year.
This「Guidelines for Entry to Korea」is to keep you informed on what to
prepare and consider during the entry process. Please pay close attention as
this information will help you safely enter Korea and study at your
participating university.
We eagerly look forward to seeing you soon here in Korea. We want to
thank all our fellows again for your participation and cooperation.

□ Period of Entry
○ Sometime in January or February of 2021
- your Koworks coordinator will confirm your date of entry
<NOTE> Due to COVID-19 restrictions, international flight schedules are
heavily subject to change at this time and may result in
cancellations or delays in your flight

□ What to Prepare and Consider for Entry


 Local medical check-up before entry to Korea
○ Who : All fellows
○ When : Sometime within December 2020, during the submission deadline
(to be announced)
○ What is required : Medical check-up results(similar to the one submitted
during the selection process)
- The detailed guideline of the medical check-up will be notified by
Soonchunhyang University Hospital, KOICA’s official screening facility. If
there is anything unfit with the check-up, entry may be prohibited.
<NOTE> • Medical check-up fees are not supported by KOICA
• Upon entry fo Korea, all fellows will proceed to another
medical check-up in Korea.

 Issuing Study abroad Visa (D-2, D-3)


○ Who : All fellows who need visas for study to Korea
○ When : in consideration of your entry schedule to Korea
○ What is required : secure necessary documents for visa issuance(invitation or
admission letter, etc) to proceed to issue visa for study to Korea
<NOTE> If the visa is not issued, entry may be temporarily delayed.

 COVID-19 testing requirements before boarding plane for Korea


○ Who : All fellows
○ When : at least 72 hours before boarding
○ What is required : before departure for Korea, fellows must be tested for
COVID-19 and board the plane with proof of negative results in English
<NOTE> • Please inform your Koworks coordinator of your COVID-19 test
results
• Failure to be tested for COVID-19 and providing proof of negative
results in English will restrict your boarding the plane and entry
to Korea
• COVID-19 testing fees are not supported by KOICA

 Quarantine measures and COVID-19 treatment costs upon entry to Korea


○ Quarantine measures: Upon arrival at Incheon International Airport, fellows
are to stay at the quarantine facility of their university
- further details to be provided by the university, please check with your
university coordinator.
<NOTE> Based on the Republic of Korea’s Central Disaster Safety and Counter
measure Headquarters「Country guide for COVID-19 isolation hospi
talization treatment costs based on the principle of reciprocity」, please
be informed that individual fees may incur according to your nationality.
