9 , Aim and Objectives

The aim of Social Internship is to sensitize students about various social issues society is facing Through
pre internships course, internships with non-profits and guidance from mentors the student will build
understanding of how the social challenges can be addressed. This experience will also make them more
grounded, have empathy for poor and the marginalized and in the process build their own pathways for
making a difference.

1. Provide experiential learning experience in the social sector.


2. Build understanding of various social development challenges that India and the world is facing.
3. Understand the role of Government, markets and civil society.
4. Develop leadership skills like problem solving, creativity, working in diverse teams.
5. Bring the experience of working on the ground into classroom discussions.
6. Reflect on how to make a contribution to the social sector
10. Methodology:
Pre Internship Planning:

Step 1: Information dissemination about Social internships through webinars, podcasts, FAQs,
information sharing sessions with the students
Step 2: Identification of non-profits for internships. Capturing student details and interest. Matching
students with internships.
Step 3: Developing and executing a pre internship course on social issues for all the students

Step 4: Mapping all the students with various course coordinators

Content of the pre internship Course:

Introduction to the course.

This is a 10 session faculty led course which is compulsory to attend and pass in order to be eligible
for social internships. This course will help the students build real world understanding of the social
issues that the country is facing. Completing this course will help students do well at their
internships.

Reflection - Final Report Submission

The students will submitting a 2000 word essay on a social issue that they were working on during
the internship. The essay will cover the following points among others

What is the social issue that the you were working on during the internships
Background and current status of the issue.
How the organization where you did your internships is addressing this issue.
What is your opinion on how this issue can be addressed
What did you learn

Essay should be original work.
