Christ Is The End of The Law
A FRIENDLY DISCUSSION. NOT FOR CONTENTION BUT TO SHARE THE BLESSING OF WHAT I HAVE
LEARNED.
FIRST OF ALL, we`ll stand on these principles to get the right message as we study the Word of God:
a) STUDYING BY CONTEXT( 2 Timothy 2:15) This is very important because the context itself will
explain its right message for us not be driven to wrong thoughts. Proper study of the context will
help us to rightly divide the Word of Truth.
b) STUDYING BY COMPARING SCRIPTURE WITH SCRIPTURES (1 Corinthians 2:13) The scripture
explained itself. No other interpretation. Sticking to what God hath said.
-There are some thoughts being explained through other verses.
These will help us to rightly divide the Word of Truth.
NOW LETS START.In this case, “CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW & WE ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW BUT
UNDER GRACE”
THE CONTEXT EXPLAINED ITSELF. Romans 10:4: For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to
every one that believeth.
The context here is about SALVATION. Apostle Paul corrects the Israelites who believed that
righteousness (salvation) is through following the Law. (Rom.10:1-3) And so Paul continues in verse 4
that “CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS TO EVERYONE THAT BELIEVETH.” That is to
say, that righteousness/salvation was and is received by those who believed in Jesus.
CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW-it doesn`t mean that the law was gone or destroyed.
Jesus in Matthew 5:17 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to
destroy, but to fulfil.” Clearly He said, He came to FULFILL. Not to abolish or to erase but to fulfill.
Now let’s dig it farther. Why does it say THE END? Cause the law requires perfect obedience to
be righteous. Romans 2:13: (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law
shall be justified. But none of us did meet the standard. All human races failed. Roman 3:10: As it is
written, There is none righteous, no, not one. Since we can`t be righteous by our own deeds and yet we
need salvation, Christ fulfilled the requirements of the law through death on the cross. And so Romans
10:4 says, CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW “FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS”. He fulfilled the righteousness which
the law requires and not by our works. It’s through the work of Christ and believing in Him – “to
everyone that BELIEVETH.” Romans 4:5: But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth
the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW “FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS” therefore means that Christ is the
FULFILMENT of the law. He is the one that met the requirements which the law sought. He did not
abolish the law but fulfilled the law. (Matthew 5:17)
Romans 6:15: What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God
forbid.
We are not UNDER the law but UNDER grace- BY CONTEXT, the Apostle Paul is talking about
NOT BEING UNDER LAW as to what the law can do to us. What can the law do us? What is its EFFECT
against us?
Now BY COMPARING SCRIPTURE TO SCRIPTURES, because all men were sinners, UNDER the
law`s curse or punishment is death. That is the separation of our soul and body and separation of our
soul from the presence of God. (Rom.3:23;Rom.6:23 & Rev.21:8)
As being unrighteous, all human race were UNDER THE LAW`S provision of punishment or curse
because of sin that is the condemnation of our soul. By the time we trusted Jesus as our Saviour, WE
ARE NO MORE UNDER THE LAW. That is being freed from the punishment or curse of the Law by faith
Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:13: Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for
us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:)
That’s why Paul emphasized that WE SHOULD NOT CONTINUE IN SIN JUST BECAUSE WE ARE NO
MORE UNDER THE CURSE OF THE BUT UNDER GRACE. (Rom.6:1-2) God forbid. We should not abuse the
grace of God. Yes, we are not anymore under the law`s curse. But the law was never abolished or
erased.
Here are some insights from bible verses to help us understand this:
Matthew 5:17: Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to
destroy, but to fulfill.
2/JESUS DURING HIS EARTHLY MINISTRY TOLD THE BELIEVERS TO FOLLOW THE LAW.
*Matthew 7:12: Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye
even so to them: for this is the LAW and the prophets.
*Matthew 22:36-40: Master, which is the great commandment in the LAW? Jesus said unto him,
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy
mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy
neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the LAW and the prophets.
3/APOSTLE PAUL FOLLOWED THE LAW.
*Acts 25:8 While he answered for himself, Neither against the LAW of the Jews, NEITHER against
the temple, nor yet against Caesar, HAVE I OFFENDED ANYTHING AT ALL.
*Romans 7:22 For I DELIGHT IN THE LAW OF GOD after the inward man:
*Romans 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I MYSELF SERVE
THE LAW OF GOD; but with the flesh the law of sin.
4/ ANANIAS, THE DISCIPLE THAT USED BY GOD TO RESTORE PAUL`S SIGHT FOLLOWED THE LAW.
*Acts 22:12 And one Ananias, a DEVOUT man according to the LAW, having a good report of all
the Jews which dwelt there,
* 1Co:9:7-9: Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and
eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
Say I these things as a man? or saith not the LAW the same also? For it is written in the LAW of
Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take
care for oxen? 1Co:9:14: Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel
should live of the
*1Co:14:34: Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to
speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the LAW.
c) HUSBAND AND WIFE ARE BOTH BOUND TO THE LAW AS LONG AS THEY LIVETH- THIS IS
ACCORDING THE LAW.
*1Co:7:39: The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be
dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
*Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for HE THAT LOVETH
another hath FULFILLED THE LAW.
*Romans 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore LOVE is the FULFILLING
OF THE LAW.
