2017: Apple vs.

Qualcomm
Apple and Qualcomm reached a settlement after two-year legal battle. Apple
dropped Qualcomm modems for the iPhone 7, replacing them with Intel
modems. This was even though Intel's modems were lagging behind Apple's.
Apple is working on its own in-house modems, but these are unlikely to be
ready until 2022 at the earliest. Apple had to act if they wanted a 5G-capable
iPhone available in 2020. Some courts are still investigating Qualcomm's
practices. The settlement includes a payment from Apple to Qualcomm.

2018: The Home Pod

Apple's Home Pod is the company's first foray into the smart speaker market.
The Home Pod can only play music from Apple Music and the iTunes Store. It
has seven internal tweets and a large subwoofer to provide truly impressive
sound.

2019: Apple misses its earnings guidance

Apple lowered its earnings guidance for the just gone 2018 holiday quarter.
The company had not failed to meet guidance since 2003, well before the
iPhone era. Apple cut the entry price of the next iPhone flagship by $50
worldwide, after several years where the price had only creeped upwards.

2020: Apple 2020

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are Apple's mainstream flagship iPhones for 2020.
The phones come in 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch sizes with identical features, including
support for faster 5G cellular networks, OLED displays, improved cameras, and Apple's
latest A14 chip, all in a completely refreshed design. Despite challenges on nearly every
front, 2020 was a banner year for Apple. Not only did the company release its annual
iPhone updates, new Apple Watch hardware, and new iPad hardware, it also undertook
a massive transition on the Mac side of things with the first Apple Silicon-powered
machines. Looking ahead to 2021, we expect Apple to continue transitioning the Mac
lineup to its Apple Silicon
