38-17, Software Version 61 - 51
- The PCC system (Progressive Crane Control) limits the acceleration when starting up and stopping the
movements of the boom system, which ensures a more smooth control of the crane movements.
PCC has been described in the course module “Crane Controls”.
- The EVS System has been upgraded at some points. The heel in the X-direction (similar for both sides of
the vehicle) is divided in heel in XL (left side of the vehicle) and XR (right side of the vehicle). This is how
you can set some inclination parameters for both sides of the vehicle, in order to take into account cranes
that are asymmetrically mounted.
The EVS System can be adjusted in a new configuration in the CGW menus: Under ”EVS”-”Advanced”-
”General” select ”Auto Switch”, under ”Stab safety system”-”Type” select ”CYL” and under ”Stab safety
system”-”Surveillance” select the sensors on stabilizers for ”CYBEL”.
Then the EVS-System is deactivated, when the stabilizer beams are completely extended and the
stabilizer legs are lowered to the surface. When selecting this option, it requires that the crane fitter
has made sure during the stability test that the vehicle is stable when correctly supported by the
CYBEL system.
The new parameters under EVS are further described in the course module “Setting procedure, EVS”.
- The SBC system (Slew Braking Control) is checking the dynamic oscillations that appear on cranes with
slewing cylinders, when a slewing movement with a load on the crane is being stopped. The inevitable
sideways deflection of the boom system to both sides (swinging), gives alternate increase of pressure in
the one and the other slewing cylinder. The SBC ensures a damping of the hydraulic variations in
pressure and a reduction in the number of these variations. This is how crane operation becomes more
smooth and the life span of the crane components are extended.
In the hydraulic system for the slewing movement, there is a built-in motion control valve, where the SBC
functionality is controlled by a solenoid valve. The solenoid valve is connected to the RCL 5300
controller, whose output terminal is activated under the CGW menu 1.1.1.1.2.4.1.1-4 (Slew LHV). The
SBC system will currently be introduced on certain types of cranes in the present and the coming year.
- The software supports a new analogue CAN slewing sensor that registers where the boom system is
positioned in the slewing area. The slewing sensor does thus replace the signalling from proximity
switches at cam discs in connection with the known safety systems such as HSL/X, QOPS, CAC, 2LMB,
CBS and SDC. The slewing sensor will currently be introduced on certain types of cranes in the coming
year.
- A “CBS stable” option has been added. When this function has been selected and with the control system
in crane mode, the load moment in SSO/NOS will not be reduced in the CBS area. If the load on the
crane exceeds the SSO value, the slewing function will be stopped on its way out of the CBS area. The
“CBS stable” function must only be selected when it has been checked that the stability of the
vehicle is ensured when working with the crane under all the above-mentioned conditions.

- Under the hoist feature is added an “Auto Ease” option, which can be selected by a cross in the check
box. When the tumbler switch no. 10 on the remote control box is activated and you operate the
“extension - out” movement, the hoist will automatically ease with a fixed, slow speed. Then the
“extension - out” function is no longer blocked, when the hoist is loaded with 600 kg or more.
- A dump function has been attached, which is activated in stabilizer mode, valid for RC cranes. If an
acknowledgement button or a safety button for stabilizers is not activated, if a swing-up stabilizer leg is
not moved out of the lock, if there is a spool sensor stuck or the load on the crane exceeds “Max Load
C˃S” when changing into stabilizer mode (unless High Load Operation has been selected), the safety
system will dump the oil.
System changes
- CBS (Calibrate Bypass) has become an independent feature. In the CBS slewing area (over the truck
body), it is possible to change into stabilizer mode with a load on the crane.
When the boom system is in the CBS area, the F1 diode will be constantly lit.
- Improved communication between RCL and external CAN modules. When fitting a new module, the RCL
will register this under the CGW menu “General - I/O”.
- The external CAN modules have configuration parameters in the software. These parameters will from
now on be doubled in the RCL. When replacing a module (e.g. a G2 radio controller), the configuration
parameters must be copied into the RCL. This is done under “Tools” - “Replace modules”.
- Error code 122 indicates time out on the CR 2033 module. This meant previously that the RCL system
had to be restarted. If these time out periods are short (e.g. unstable connection in plugs and cables), the
RCL is now going to start up the module again before a crane stop occurs.
- Selection and de-selection of features have previously taken place via “Add features” and “Del features”
respectively. This has been changed into a list with all features “Add Del feature”. Here the features that
are supported by the current software version can be selected by a cross in the corresponding check box
(SET-arrow up-ENT).
- A range of features and functions related to WTG cranes have been implemented. I.e. special functions
for service cranes on wind turbines that are not relevant to truck-mounted cranes.
- The error log under “Black box” has been divided in two - a crane error log and a stabilizer error log. The
previous separate radio remote control log has been added to the crane error log.
- New parameters under “Monitor”, “Status” have been added. “EVS status” defines stepwise how EVS is
active. “EVS calibration” indicates different reasons why it is not possible to calibrate the EVS System.
The monitor parameters “Speed Reduction”, “Dump” and “Derate” will indicate the reason for reduced
speed, a dump situation and derate respectively.
- The selective TCL safety system has been extended to include also the “boom - up” function. In case of
TCL stop at maximum load on crane, it will - in addition to the load moment increasing movements - not
be possible to operate the “boom - up” movement either.
- When disconnecting the Fly-Jib, the safety system can be brought out of the error condition by activating
the red press button.

- It is possible to choose an alternative function of the press button for operation of the RCL 5300 controller
and the remote control box. A simplified operation that means less pushes and combination of pushes on
the press buttons.
The alternative press button function - called “Professional” - can be activated by the CGW 5355 in menu
item 1.1.1.1.2.9.5. The cranes are supplied with standard operation.
In order to be backward compatible with RCL 5300 controllers that have older software, the CGW is online
updated with three menu versions 1.92, 2.92 and 3.93
- When connecting to the RCL with software version 10 - 42 the CGW menu version 1.92 is used

- When connecting to the RCL with software version 43 - 57 the CGW menu version 2.92 is used
- When connecting to the RCL with software version 61 - 61+ the CGW menu version 3.93 is used
When connecting to the RCL the CGW automatically chooses the menu version that matches the RCL
software in question. When the CGW is online, the current menu version is shown under menu item 4.9.
Procedure for updating software from version 57_47 or older to version 61_51
It is important to follow the following procedure when updating software from version 57_47 or older to
version 61_51:
- Carefully read the procedure before starting the download.
- Follow the number of steps listed that have to be carried out.
- Follow the listed procedure and do not skip one or several steps as the RCL would otherwise be left in an
inactive condition so that the crane cannot work.
Please note: In case of future update of software from 61_51 to more recent software, the procedure will be
direct download as before.
1. Please check that the CGW has been online updated. After an online update, “Menu Ver 3.93” must be
stated under menu item 4.9, when the CGW is connected to the USB port on a PC. If there is any doubt,
please online update the CGW.
2. Save the current crane profile on the SD card of the CGW. Mark menu item 1.1.3 “Controller to File” and
press ENT. This step is very important as it will be possible to save the profile back into the RCL in case
of the download process of the new software is interrupted or fails.
3. If the RCL 5300 that has to be updated has an older software version than the 57_47 it must be updated
to the software version 57_47 before continuing with the below steps.
Find the current software version under the menu item 1.2.1.1 - “Network”, “ RCL5300A”/”RCL5300B”.
4. Go to menu item 1.2.1.3 - “Download”. Press ENT and select “+RCL 5300”. Mark “FIX001.xo” by the
arrow key. Press ENT and the download procedure will begin.
5. Wait till it says “Download Success - Please repower RCL5300”. Disconnect the power supply and IGN
and reconnect it again after 10 seconds. Please note that right after there is no indication in the RCL
display, which is normal.
6. Go to menu item 1.5.7 - “Get Data from SD”. Press ENT and select the data profile that corresponds to
the current crane size and model. For example the RCL is fitted on a 5020-K crane: select “32 50 K.pro”.
Press ENT and select “Choose profile”. Press ENT. After download the menu item 1.5.7 is marked.
7. Go to menu item 1.2.1.3 - “Download”. Press ENT and select “+RCL5300”. Mark “61 51.xo.” by the
arrow key. Press ENT and the download procedure will begin.
8. Wait till it says “Download Success - Please repower RCL5300”. Disconnect the power supply and IGN
and reconnect it again after 10 seconds.
Now the RCL is updated to version 61_51, the crane profile including the adjusted parameters such as for
example EVS have been adapted to the new software and the operating system is ready for all crane
functions and the safety system to be tested.
Please note that the adjustments that have been made on the crane profile under the above-mentioned
procedure entail that it is not compatible with older software versions.
