PROFILE OF YOUTH IN MEDIA VOLUNTARY COMMUNITY RADIO STATION
Youth in Media Voluntary Community Radio Station is purposed programmed community development
talk radio station located at Apam. Primary communities covered by are Apam,Ankamu, Asebu,
Dawurapong, Gomoa Tarkwa, Eshiem, Gomoa Techiman,Mumford,Onyadze,Abrekum.

The major livelihoods of our listeners are fishing, salt mining and trading. Major challenges facing our
communities include low fishing productivity and returns on investment, open defecations, pollution of
water bodies and streams, poor sanitation and health and poor attitude towards education, high
unskilled youth population, and apathy to community development as well as over reliance Assembly for
local development amidst abundant opportunities. Existing radio station only highlights these
challenges.

Youth in Media Voluntary community radio will be known for our responsive relevant value
programming content and strategic direct contact events aimed at addressing challenges to impact our
listener’s livelihoods and promote better environmental care and sustainability so we bequeath
posterity with a good environment.

Specifically, Youth in Media Voluntary community radio will promote citizenly responsibility, family
values, culture and gender parity, social inclusion, girl child education, women and youth economic
empowerment, agriculture value chain, community sports development and set new standard for
communities radio in Ghana.

Youth in Media Voluntary community radio will become the people’s radio station where they will hear
their voice, participating in addressing their personal and community challenges. On their community
radio, our listeners would hear responsive duty bearers address their challenges and they would get to
know of what is happening in their backyard and opportunities and how they ought to respond to create
prosperity.

Knowledge based, information, skill and attitudinal impactful talk programming will enhance human
capital development in our catchment area. Agriculture programs, healthy lifestyle and other livelihood
content interspersed with local choral live performances will set Youth in Media Voluntary community
radio apart.

The people of Gomoa area will sleep with Youth in Media Voluntary community radio at 10:00pm and
wake up at 4:00am with their radio station serving them with motivational messages on the insight for
living. The 4am-10pm broadcast policy aims at reducing cost of operation and promote healthy lifestyle.
OBJECTIVES

The Objectives of Youth in Media voluntary Community Radio Station are;


1. To promote local community development through self-help, communal labour.
livelihood knowledge and skills education and training, education investment, sports
and creative arts support
2. To serve our listeners with more relevant radio content to make them prosperous and
more responsible for our environment and prosperity.
3. To promote unity, gratitude and discipline in our listeners.
4. To promote unique cultures and traditions of Gomoa among the people.
5. To establish a self-sustaining virtual value education and knowledge source of our
people.

VISION
The vision of Youth in Media Voluntary is to be known as the model public service radio station
in Ghana where your welfare and community welfare comes first.

MISSION
Youth in Media Voluntary community radio station exist to provide public service radio service;
development biased relevant radio programming reinforced with direct contact events to
facilitate accelerated human and community development in our catchment area.

CORPERATE GOAL
Youth in Media Voluntary community radio station corporate goal is to put our people and
community development on top priority in our service to create more opportunities and
prosperity for our people.
We seek to achieve this by enforcing high standard editorial policy of Youth in Media Voluntary
community radio station, fielding quality informed resource persons on our programming,
filling Youth in Media Voluntary air waves with relevant livelihood impactful, well produced
content and particularly proactively guarding against the noisy anti-Government partisan
discourse invading our airwaves accompanied by poisonous phone ins. Youth in Media
Voluntary must be refreshing community radio stations.

Youth in Media Voluntary community radio station will take off with 5 full time staff namely;

1. General manager with additional responsibilities of community relations and head of


programs
2. Administration and Marketing Manager
3. A Receptionist
4. Driver/ Technicians
5. Security/Cleaner
Other staff would be engage in a voluntary or part time bases to keep the cost of
operation minimal.
PROGRAMING PHILOSOPHY

Content of Youth in Media Voluntary community radio station must be strategic fit to
the purpose of providing value public radio service to facilitate the development of
our people, communities and leaving good environment for posterity.
All programming must pass the public service relevance test without compromise. We
will enforce strict adherence to Editorial Policy of Truth, Integrity, Social Inclusion and
pro Development at all times to ensure content feeds into Youth in Media Voluntary
community radio (Your Welfare and Community Welfare Comes First) mantra.

TECHNICAL ANALYST

 TRANSMISSION; Youth in Media Voluntary community radio station will be


sited at Apam hills, the highest elevation in the catchment area to share shelter
and also tower space on the existing 50m Telco Mast to carry our 8 bay dipole
transmission antenna joined to our 500w solid state DB Transmitter by 80m
7/8 Helix Cable. This will be enough to effectively cover at least 20km radius of
our target communities

 STUDIO EQUIPMENT; Youth in Media Voluntary community radio station will


be equipped with
1. DavidII Sound processor and a 12 Channels digital sound craft console,
2. 3 Guest 1 host Microphones on booms.
3. 4 Synthesizer headphones connected to headphone amplifier
4. 2 inbuilt telephone inputs
5. Powered Mackie Monitors
6. Studio clock
7. 3 Studio PCs
8. Cue-Light
9. Custom studio Furniture and sound proofed branded décor.
10. One PC desk and booth production set up.
11. A modern designed new 3 bedroom walled house has been secured
to accommodate the offices and studios of Youth in Media Voluntary
community radio station at Apam hills.

CONCLUSION
Youth in Media Voluntary community radio station has the potential to transform the human
capital and livelihoods of our people by feeding them with relevant information, knowledge
that empowers to spot opportunities and make better choices to take advantage and create
wealth and leave our environment in good state for posterity.
Given the capacity of fishing and salt mining industry in our coverage area and the need for a
public service radio station, we believe loans invested in Youth in Media Voluntary community
radio station could be paid back after three years and retooling funds earned to sustain the
operation in addition to a decent annual cooperate responsibility budget to support local
development.
