VOLUNTEERISM
- It is the act, or practice of
contributing one’s time, talents, and
resources freely to worthwhile
purposes without tangible
compensations.
- This is considered also as the most
fundamental act in the society:
• Help to alleviate the suffering
of others
• It promotes peace, solidarity,
and trust among citizens
VOLUNTEERISM
Moore (2002) opined that a volunteer is
a person who is a light to others, a
person whose charity is fidelity,

•who is faithful in an unfaithful world

•grateful in an ungrateful world and


giving when all are grasping

•listening when others need to tell about


their fears and problems.
Why Volunteer?

•the benefits of volunteering can be


enormous. Volunteering offers vital help
to people in need, worthwhile causes,
and the community.

The benefits can be finding right match


that can help you to find friends, connect
with the community, learn new skills,
and even advance your career.
Why volunteer?
Giving to others can also help protect your
mental and physical health. It can reduce
stress, combat depression, keep you mentally
stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose.

While it’s true that the more you volunteer,


the more benefits you’ll experience by way of
giving in even simple ways which can help
those in need and improve your health and
happiness.
Community Volunteering is the way
in which a group of individuals
from a community partake in
social, charitable and
environmental activities on a
voluntary basis.

Its nature and essence, in fact,


relates to the human need of
helping others and advocate social

Community development is a process
where community members come
together to take collective action and

an animal shelter

together with friends and teach the
moms new recipes.

3. If you love sports, you can play


games with the kids at nearby
sports complex or organize a mini-
sport fest.
4. If you enjoy outdoors, you can help
organize a clean-up drive in your
street or park or help neighbor
plant vegetables and cut flowers.

5. If you enjoy arts and crafts, you


can teach them how to make
curtains or bedspread, embroider
pillowcases and towels, and flower
racks
Volunteerism forms part of the
community service which is
unpaid work performed by a person
or group of people for the benefit and
betterment of their community
without any form of compensation.

Volunteering can however be distinct


from community service since it is not
always performed on a voluntary
basis and may be compulsory per
situation like the frontliners in
respond to the call to serve in this
COVID 19 pandemic
Community Service
Community Service is identified by the
Higher Educational Institution (HEI) in
consultation with the Local Government
Units (LGUs), Community-Based
Organizations (CBOs), and Non-
Governmental Organizations (NGOs) as
designed to improve the quality of life of
community people/ residents,
particularly low-income individuals, or to
solve particular problems related to their
needs.
Community Service includes among others
1. Training on First Aid or health care, preschool
storytelling, social welfare, social services,
trauma counseling, group dynamics, crime
prevention, recreation, school facilities clean
up , street cleaning and community
improvement
2. Serving in the youth Corps as defined in the
NSTP Act of 2001
3. Assisting and tutoring students with
disabilities
4. Supporting educational and recreational
activities, and career counseling
