A- Now, here are some questions to help you get started.
1. What do you think about this city?
I think that is a beautiful city because it has all the quality for entertaining all the
people that visits Las Vegas; it is the only place where dreams become reality,
fortunes are won and lost, and the party never stops morning, noon, and night! A lot
of people from different countries come to Las Vegas and it is called the sin city,
too.

2. Where is the city located?


Las Vegas is a city found in Nevada, The United States Of America. It is located
36.17 latitude and -115.14 longitudes and it is situated at elevation 613 meters
above sea level.

3. Can you identify 3 of the places mentioned in the video?


Luxor this modern casino is decorated in Egyptian style and has 2526 rooms.
Excalibur with over 4,000 rooms, the escalator is like a time machine in this fantasy
world. Caesars palace, one of the most exclusive hotels in Las Vegas, the shops here
are among the most elegant of unique in the USA.

4. Would you like to visit this city?


Yes, I would like to visit the city and have fun there and pass a wonderful time in
that beautiful place, watching, playing, drinking, eating, dancing. But it is a little
difficult for me to visit the city because I don´t have enough money by now.

B. Answer the questions.

1. Write two ways that Las Vegas was different in the 1940s and 1950s from
the way it is today.
In those years the hotels rooms cost between three and eight dollars a night.
Today tourists pay up to 400 for a luxury room. The image of the Las Vegas
strip is more different 0, too than before. And the crime is not very important in
Las Vegas anymore. The food was cheaper and everyone had more fun.

2. Write two ways that Las Vegas is the same as it was in 1950.
Gambling, prostitution, and no-wait weddings are still legal there. Ritzy hotels
also still offer fine dining, classy shops, and luxurious health spa. The gamblers
still come, but tourists looking for a relaxing time come, too.

1. What is the main idea of each one?
The American mafia built many lavish hotels on the strip. The capitalists bought out
the mobsters.

2. What divides the two parts? Look for grammatical clues.


Today, Las Vegas has customers coming for many different reasons.

3. What idea does each paragraph discuss?


Mafia built many lavish hotels, these hotels were popular and everybody likes them.
Organize crime is not very important because the capitalists bought out mobsters.

1. Would you like to vacation in Las Vegas? Why or why not?
Yes, I would. Because I will see something different of what I am not used to and I
will get a lot of fun and maybe I will make my dreams come true.

2. Would you like to live in Las Vegas? Why or why not?


Yes, I would. Because I will have a new job in the sin city and I´ll be happy almost
all my time, I will know new people and I will start a new live.
