    COURSE TITLE: Physics for Health Science

    II. COURSE DESCRIPTION:


    The purpose of this course is to introduce students to a variety of basic concepts
    and principles of physics. The major topics, with a health focus, include: introduction to
    physical quantities and units, motion, rates of change, force, energy, work, power,
    pressure, density and bioelectricity. In addition, students examine numerous health-
    sciences illustrations, such as, human interaction with forces, human efficiency related
    to work/energy/power, human examples related to pressure and bioelectricity. Outside
    of health science applications, students also have the opportunity to explore practical
    examples that demonstrate the role of physics in everyday life.

    OBJECTIVES:
    1. Explain the differences between physical quantities and units.
    2. Evaluate rates of change related to speed, velocity, acceleration and flow rates.
    3. Apply Newton's laws to solve motion problems involving forces.
    4. Explain the concepts of density and pressure within health-sciences.
    5. Differentiate between work, energy, and power.
    6. Explain the fundamentals of electricity and magnetism.
    7. Explain various health-science applications occurring in the medical workplace.
