ASSIGNMENT NO.

1:
1. Why is HR planning an integral part to a firm’s strategic planning? As an HR professional,
what do you think you could tie the two functions together?
 HR planning is integral to the firm’s strategic planning because Human Resource
Planning is the totality and the continuous process of systematic planning in order to
achieve optimum use of an organization's most valuable asset, in other words making
sure that the organization achieve “quality employees”. It is important to have the best
people and trained employees in the organization in order to consolidate useful ideas
that can contribute to the overall success of the company.  Also, if the business does
not have the right skills and talent in place to achieve its goals, then the strategic
plan will fail due to a lack of knowledge and manpower. As an HR profession, these
two could be tied up because of ideas, decisions and innovative pursuits.
Manpower have these qualities which are needed to create a successful strategic
plan.

2. What role might the firm’s mission, vision, goals and values play?
 The firms mission, vision and goals plays a significant part in directing the company in
the future. The mission communicates the overall aim of the organization as well as
the reason of its being and how it wants to serve its stakeholders. On the other hand,
the vision is the company’s purpose. This strategy is intended to achieve the vision
and thus satisfy the organization’s mission. While goals are developed to attain
certain measurable objectives which to ensure the success of the organization’s
strategy.

3. What external factors in the environment do you think firms are most likely to be
overlooked when formulating their business strategies? How can HR manager help its
executive team get fuller picture of the competitive environment in which it operates?
 In my opinion, Seasonal or Climatic factors is an external factor that the firms are
most likely to be overlooked. Like for example the Forever 21, they weren’t able to
continue operating in countries like Asia because most of their products are “fast
fashion” and their products are not applicable in countries with only two climates just
like in the Philippines. They were so used on changing ever style per season not
minding the location and climate they are in.
HR manager can help by involving employees which are also part of an internal
customers. Their opinions and suggestions about the products itself can be a crucial
part in the integration of the strategies for the firm. As many internal
people/manpower is involved it can serve as an eye, and they can be able to give off
exemplar ideas and activities that they need to practice. This can help them gain a
fuller picture of the competitive environment in which they operate.
4. Given the scenario on car parts manufacturing, how will the AUTO PARTS
MANUFACTURER assessed their ability to enter new markets? Do you think they will
look first at new markets and then the capabilities of their employees and external
partners or vice versa?
 The best thing to do is to look first on the capabilities of their employees and external
partners to be able to know the capacity and the potential as well as the skills of
employees before entering into the new market. Because it is hard to force the
organization to achieve the demand of the new market without the training and the
education that they need. It is important first to assess the capabilities of employees
in order to put the right people to the right project and then train people that needs to
be trained.

5. Research on a firm or company whose work is related to your course, Building Property
Management. What competitive strategy does it pursue? Do you think its employee have
the right skills given the strategy? Do you detect any mismatches?
 Ayala Property Management Corporation is the biggest property management
company in the Philippines. One of their competitive strategies is their manpower.
Most of their works focuses on construction and Property Management that is why
they make sure they have the best employees. Yes, their employees have the right
skills because they make sure that their employees can contribute significant
changes in their company. They have best engineers using technological
advancement to ensure energy efficient properties as well as property managers that
ensure proper organization of its stakeholders.

6. Why is it difficult to translate a firm’s strategy into HR deliverables that actually gets the
job done? What part of this endeavor do you think HR Managers struggles with the
most?
 It is because some things are easily said than done. Most of the organization does
not fully implement the entire strategy to the employees. That is why it is important to
get all the employees involved. I think HR Managers struggles with the leadership
development. It is important to keep your management team engaged and motivated,
and prepares them to take on more responsibilities in the future. HR manager should
make it part of the company’s culture. Also, it is important to create opportunities for
them to use their strengths every day. Accomplishing goals will motivate them and
give them a chance to develop their skills.

7. As an HR manager, how would you know whether or not your firm’s overall strategy is
being successfully implemented?
 It is important to be tracking and measuring results in order to know if the firm has
achieved the overall strategy or if certain plans has been successfully implemented.
Track record is important for the business to know if they have meet certain
requirements for a specific goal. The strategic plan itself has certain steps that they
need to follow and at the end of each plan they will be able to decide whether their
course of action has been successful.
