Pangot – The Birdwatchers’ Paradise

Pangot is a small Himalayan village situated 15 kilometers from Nainital, a very quaint settlement of the local
Kumaoni hill folk. It is a 35-minute drive from Nainital. The entire drive is through the forested area of Cheena Peak
Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury. These habitats are excellent for bird watching and treks. This green belt
supports an enormous variety of flora and fauna. More than 250 species of birds have been recorded in this area.
Renowned for Birding and nature walks, you can choose to soak in the terrific uninterrupted natural beauty or read
a book and relax as you spot birds and wildlife right from comfort of your room’s sit out area. We can also arrange
a trek to Naina Peak which at 2611 meters is one of the highest peaks in Nainital.

For those wanting more touristy options, one can also easily spend a couple of hours visiting the scenic spots of
Nainital such as Dorothy Seat, Land's End and Tiffin Top. You can enjoy boating, sailing yachts, horse-riding or
shopping in the local Tibetan market for handicrafts, candles, wooden products, shawls etc.
You can also choose to explore the six natural caves in the cave garden discovered a few years ago

How to Reach

To get to Pangot, one can take any of the following options:

By Road

• Drive from Delhi via Kathgodam and Nainital: 8 hours

• Drive from Delhi via Ramnagar (Corbett National Park) and Kaladungi: 7½ hours

By Train
• Overnight air-conditioned train from Old Delhi railway station
(departing at 2235 hr.) to Kathgodam (arriving at 0615 hr.) and
then 2 hr. drive to Pangot via Nainital.
• Overnight air-conditioned train from Old Delhi railway station
(departing at 2235 hr.) to Ramnagar (arriving at 0500 hr.) and
then 2½ hr. drive to Pangot via Kaladungi.
• There are now day trains to Kathgodam and Ramnagar as well.

Payments

An advance of 100% is required. All payments to be made in favor of M/S Asian Adventures payable at New
Delhi.

Cancellation rules for the above tariff

• Less than 15 days before arrival date- No Refund

• Less than 20 days before arrival date- 60% Refund
• Less than 25 days before arrival date- 75% Refund
• No Refund in case of road block, accidents, snow fall, no show etc.
• 50% of the total refundable amount (as per the above policy) will be released within 30 days of
cancellation and the balance 50% will be adjusted into the future bookings.

Activities

The activities here are numerous and most of them can be availed at a cost as specified at the lodge. We suggest
you book them in advance with us.

Bird Watching

More than 250 species of birds have been recorded in the area. One can
have excellent birding opportunities in the lodge itself. Besides, there are
numerous walks through the terrace fields into thickly wooded oak forest
which are extremely rewarding. opt for short or long holidays, listed on

We arrange for the services of a bird guide. Please speak with our
manager to book this service which is chargeable.

Treks

China peak (2611 meters) is one of the highest peaks in Nainital. Since the
biotope is of thick forest, this is a sheer trekkers delight.
Day treks are organized for individuals, small groups and families with
picnic lunch.
Overnight and 2-3 night treks are also organized with all equipment and
staff. The most popular trek is the old trail from Pangot to Corbett via
Kunjkharak and Akashkhanda.
We arrange for the services of a trekking guide. Please speak with our
manager to book this service which is chargeable.

Boating

Nainital, which is just 15 km away from Pangot, is famous for boating.

Yachts, paddle boats and rowing boats are available on hourly basis.

Horse riding

Horse riding is one of the most interesting activities in Nainital to visit

scenic spots such as Dorothy Seat, Land's End and Tiffin Top. Three-day
horse-riding tour is conducted from Corbett Park to Pangot. You may ask

Shopping

The Tibetan market along the edge of the lake is very popular for curios
and candles.

Picnic

Kilbury is a nice and quiet place to get panoramic views of the snow-clad
mountains. You may go with packed lunch and enjoy the flora and fauna
of this place.

Cooking Class

We are happy for you to interact with our chef. We can arrange a free
cooking lesson and you can share your favorite recipe with us too.

Yoga & Meditation

The lodge can be hired for yoga and meditation retreat. Should you
wish to conduct a programme with an expert teacher from Isha Yoga
Centre, do let us know and we shall organise it for you.

Other Notes

• It can be quite chilly outdoors at night, even in summer, so do dress warmly. We expect snow in winter.

• We do not have an in-house laundry. We send it out to a nearby facility in the village hence we are unable
take responsibility for them. If you would like your clothes laundered, please place the items in the bag
and they will be laundered within 24 hours. Please note that laundry charges are extra.

• The power supply is 220V. The plug size is Standard English. The power supply in Pangot can be very
erratic. The government has a load-shedding system and shuts down supply sometimes. Unfortunately,
the timings of load-shedding are not fixed, power supply may disappear in the mornings on some days,
and in the afternoon on others.

• As our focus is on developing a nature-centric experience at the lodge, we do not have electricity
generators which cause sound and atmospheric pollution. We usually use emergency lights when there
is no electricity and all pathways are lit by them at night. A staff member can escort you to your cottage.

• We would urge our guests to refrain from smoking in and around the lodge, inside the cottages & rooms
and in the dining areas.

• The smaller mammals, wild animals & birds occasionally do enter and pass through the lodge / hotel.
Guests are requested not to walk alone at night, Members of our staff will be happy to accompany guest
back to their cottage / rooms. Please do not walk barefoot anywhere, not even inside your cottage / rooms.
If there are unwanted guests in your cottage / rooms (spiders, insects, geckos, etc.) please alert our staff
who will remove them. Macaques and Langurs visit the lodge too. Please ensure that you keep eatables
away from them.

• We advise you to be careful with your valuables. If there is something you would like to keep safe, our
manager will be happy to assist you.

• Pangot does not have a bank to change foreign currency. The nearest ATM is in Nainital, 15 km from
Pangot. Please contact our manager for any assistance.

• Nainital is the closet town that has a hospital. If you have any medical conditions that we need to be aware
of, please inform our manager. We do not have doctors on call.

• If you’d like to leave a tip for our staff at the end of your stay, please do not tip any of our staff individually.
There are many unseen hands who work hard to make your stay comfortable, and we strive to divide tips
between the entire staff. Please leave tips in the Tip Box.

• Check - out time is 11 am.

We do not have the facility to charge credit cards at the lodge. We recommend that you carry enough spare cash
to pay for hotel taxes and any extra expenses that you may incur
