P ROJECT M ANAGEMENT AND H UMAN R ESOURCES M ANAGEMENT

A SSIGNMENT

B ACKGROUND

The context is the story of 6 families with one disabled child each. While their children were young,
the country looked after them, offering them various possibilities of institutions where the children
could reside during the week. The families knew their children were well looked after, and were happy
to know that this was a situation of boarding accommodation during the week. The children went back
home and to their family over the week-ends. Until now the families had also called on an organization
that specialized in looking after children with disabilities during the holidays.

This was necessary, as looking after disabled children can be quite onerous and in all 6 families, both
parents had to work.

Everyone was quite content while the children were young. When the children reached adulthood,
however, the help provided was no longer the same and the families were at a disarray as to how to
have their children ideally looked after. These are all loving families, with the difficulty of having a
child with disabilities.

The 6 families decided to meet and to together find a solution that would suit them all. They decide
to create the perfect living accommodation that will allow their children to have as fulfilled a life as
they deserve.

G ROUP A SSIGNMENT
You are the project manager consultants for the families and will lead the project to the end.
The children are Melissa, William, Hugo, Morgane, Abdellilah and Siham.

D AY 1
Design the project. (Use digital tools)
Enquire as to the help that is provided by the French government for people with a disability.
Find a place (old or new), with outside space, that will be able to accommodate the children and their
helpers.
You’ll need to look into ways of funding the project. Look into charitable organisations, lending entities
that specialize in lending to social projects, often offering matching contributions (find out how this
works).

Decide the most appropriate legal form for your organisation, and the governance model.
Decide the name and logo of your organisation.
Fill in the forms for registration.
Write the mails or letters necessary to be eligible to these loans and matching contributions.
E XPECTATIONS
Residents must be supported in their daily activities, social interactions, and receive educational
support. Progress is possible in particular on repetitive daily tasks, provided that it is, again, in a
stimulating accompaniment and not in the “doing instead of…”.
Participate in the preparation of the meal and not receive a meal tray in front of you.

The project revolves around private spaces, an individual project, a consideration of individualities. It
also revolves around a small collective that already allows to appropriate a living together. All in a
secure space. It is not so much the architecture as what is put between the walls that is essential in
this project.
Inclusive housing within a participatory housing can create a friendly surrounding environment that
also helps to integrate disability into society (looking at each other).

D AY 2
The answers come back positive. You’re allowed the loans that will match the amount you will have
been able to collect. You decide to create a crowd-sourcing website. Design the website and write
the content. How much are you asking for?

In the meantime, you’ve also found the property that will make all this possible. This will help you
decide how much money you need. Show the property, decide what facilities you’d like to include (on
top of the necessary facilities of 1 bathroom for 2 occupants), try a DIY blueprint taking into account
the official standards of occupation for the disabled (Example:
https://www.handinorme.com/accessibilite-handicap/91-regles-de-mise-en-accessibilite-des-
etablissements-recevant-du-public-).

Cost for architect and design = €21,000

D AY 3
Business plan
With the financial help that each family receives from the government, and any other possible form of
revenue (having used your own resourcefulness and creativity), you will create a business plan that
will lead to a long-lasting organisation that must be financially self-sufficient.
The parents want to ensure the future, knowing that they will not always be there for their children.
What is necessary? What suggestions can you make? Do you need to review the accommodation
type? Do you need to include other ways of ensuring a revenue?
You also need to start recruiting.
Assess the needs for recruitment (mind the official standards) and at what level.

Is training necessary to anyone willing to help this very special part of the population?
Have a look at some CVs and wages
D AY 4
You’re on your way to finalising your project. Think of deadlines. When can the young adults finally
start living in their new house?

D AY 5
Presentation of your projects and on the spot feedback.
