PT PLN (Persero)
The scope of discussion includes Circuit Breakers (Circuit Breaker) allotment of Air
Insulating Switchgear (AIS) type Live Tank, furthermore for other types such as Mix
Technology Switchgear (MTS), Gas Insulating Switchgear (GIS) and By Pass
Circuit Breaker will be discussed further.
1.2.1 Manufacturer
It is the name of the manufacturer and the place where the
equipment is manufactured. Examples: ABB Germany, SIEMENS
China, ALSTOM India
1.2.2 Type
Is the type of equipment code produced where the equipment type code must
match the type test of the attached equipment. In addition, this type of code will
facilitate the identification of equipment, both for operational and maintenance
purposes.
Examples: GL 330, LTB 170 etc.
1.2.3 Standards
It is a standard referenceused as a
reference in the determination / calculation of the value of
each variable.
The common standard for MTU used is IEC 62271-1:2007-10 ED.1
A specific standard for power breaker equipment used is IEC 62271-
100:2008-4 ED.02
1.2.4 Service condition
Explaining about the installation location and environmental conditions, in this
case it is required to be able to use:
Outdoor, used outdoors, should be resistant to sunlight (UV), rainwater,
wind and dust.
Tropical Area, has resistance to tropical climate (in accordance with the climate
of Indonesia).
work work work.... II-57
1.2.5 Type of Circuit Breaker
Explain about the type of PMT construction where there is an electric arc breaker
room that connects the voltage part with the voltage part.
Selected the type of live tank (intrupter is in an insulating shell of both
porcelain and polymer that stands and is directly related to the voltage part),
because this type of PMT is mass produced and used in general in PLN, this type
of equipment will also support the efficiency of the switchyard land use and
have good reliability.
1.2.6 Type of Arc Quenching Medium
Describes about the electric arc extinguishing media used in the chamberbreaker
room.
SF6 type was chosen because this type of insulating media has dielectric ability
and stable insulation characteristics.
1.2.7 Number of Phases
Describes the number of phasa in the system in which the equipment will be
used.
Selected 3 because in pln system for voltage 66 kV and above using 3 phasa
R-S-T system.
1.2.8 Rated Voltage (ur)
The ability to insulate the equipment against maximum voltage (phasa-phasa)
continuously. The required capabilities depend on the system in which the
equipment issaid to beinstalled. Its units are in kVrms and are known in maximum
system voltage terms.
Examples: 72.5 kV, 170 kV, 300 kV, 550 kV
1.2.9 Rated Frequency (Fr)
Nominal frequency of the system in which the equipment will operate. In this case
is the nominal frequency of pln system, which is 50 Hz.
1.2.10 Rated Normal Current (Ir)
The ability of the equipment is flowed nominally continuously.
The required capabilities are 1250 A, 1600 A, 3150 A or 4000 A, these are
selected with the following in mind:
Needs and development of
Interchangeability system (ease of
replacement) Spare material management
Nominal current selection in written specsification ≥ (1250 A or 1600 A or
3150 A or 4000 A), the word "or" indicates that the number can only be selected
salah one according to the needs of the system, while the sign "≥" indicates the
value the minimum that must be met so that the Manufacturer can bid higher.
Examples of Elections:
The value of Ir is determined by the user according to the needs of the system
where the power breaker equipment will be installed and the ability with the mass
product manufacturer available in the market.
The options are 1250A, 1600A, 2000A, 2500A, 3150A, and 4000A.
For example, pmt is needed for a transformer of 150/20 kV capacity of 60
MVA, then nominal current requirement = 60,000 kVA / (150 kV *
√3) = 231 A
The capacity of the 150 kV transformer installed and used in PLN has a
diversity of capacities including 10 MVA, 20 MVA, 30 MVA, 50 MVA, 60 MVA,
100 MVA, 250 MVA and 500 MVA can be simplified considering the ease of
material provision in the operation of electricity supply and market availability in
general. Mass so as to get optimal and efficient material then selected the current
rating for the transformer 150 kV with various transformer capacity of 2000
Ampere.
Another example if it takes PMT for delivery with a conductor of 2 x 435 mm 2,
where the nominal current delivery capability is 2 x 780 A then pmt is selected with
a current rating of 1600 A.
1.2.11 Rated Short Time Withstand Current (Ith)
The equipment's ability to flow rms (symmetrical) maximum for a certain duration
without damage.
The value is selected based on the results of a short circuit current level study at
the Substation where the equipment will be installed and taking into account the
development of the system. In this case selected 25 kA and 31.5 kA for 70
kV, 31.5kA, 40 kA, 50 kA for 150 kV, 50 kA for 275 kV and 500 kV.
The selection of the maximum capability of a short circuit current in written

surface so that the isolation resistance is maintained. The selection of the
minimum propagation distance is adjusted to the voltage rating and pollution
level where the n level is installed.
The distance of the insulation propagation can be selected based on the level of
pollution in the area where GI equipment is installed, according to IEC pollution
level standards can be divided become medium Heavy and very Heavy, deep thing
this with Consideration Indonesia how much in areas with high humidity and
pollution levels then, Selected Heavy (25 mm/kV) dan very heavy (31 mm/kV).
Especially for type insulators. very Heavy (31 mm/kV) Used at GI with level
pollution heavy like GI near the beach, near the chemical plant, or near the
cement plant. As for GI Those who are not in this location canUse type insulators
Heavy (25 mm/kV).
The selection of the minimum propagation distance in written specsification is 25
mm / kV or 31 mm / kV, the word "or" indicates that the number can only be
selected one according to the needs of the system.
Example: for equipment with a rated voltage (your) of 170 kV installed in areas
with high pollution levels, the minimum distance of the required insulation
propagation is 4250 mm so that the minimum creepage distance is selected
25 mm / kV.
1.2.17 Operating Sequence and Operating Duty

5.2.3. Standards
It is a standard reference used as a
reference in the determination / calculation of the value of
each variable.
The standard used in compiling this specification is the IEC standard with the
consideration of:
Standards are widely used in the world.
equipment installed in pt PLN (Persero) environment mostly use IEC
standards
in accordance with the needs of O&M in PT PLN (Persero)
The standards for Surge/Lighning Arrester equipment used are IEC 60099-4
Ed. 2.2 2009-5 "Metal-oxide surge arrester without gaps for a.c. systems" and IEC
60099-5 Ed. 1.1 2000-03 "Selection and application recommendations".
Where:
The constant value 1.05 is the safety factor chosen as a consideration of the
voltage value that an arrester is capable of retaining in a limited period of time (IEC
60099-5).
Us = system nominal voltage (kV)
The values obtained are selected according to iec table 60099-4 Ed-2.2.
Table 5.1

Example: for the system nominal voltage (U s)= 150 kV from the calculation
obtained by your = 128 kV, from table 2 IEC 60099-4 selected your = 132 kV.
Where:
Ur = rated voltage arrester
Example: for rated voltage (your) = 132 kV then mcov arrester is 106 kV
The selection of Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage LA in L.A. specs for 500
kV is written "350 up to 360", the word "up to" indicates the range of values
that can be
accepted, so that the manufacturer will fill a value that is still in that range. .
Example:
The system's nominal voltage of 500 kV and SUTET's 500 kV pass through the
lightning density area (Ng = 16 strikes per km2 per year) and the maximum
current size averages 20 kA then selected class 4.
The selection of nominal discharge current, can be determined by knowing how
much of the maximum lightning current that hits directly to the conductor due
to failure
Ground wire protection(Shielding Failure),because the lightning arrester in the GI
will throw the current of lightning that reaches the GI past the conductor, the
lightning current that hits the conductor is not as big as the current that hits the
ground wire, for example for 150 kV with two ground wires, the maximum lightning
current that hits directly the conductor is about 15 kA, and will be halved so that the
ability of LA in GI 150 kV is simply selected 10 kA. The range for 500 kV is 20 kA,
so for LA in GITET 500 kV cukup20 kA.
The selection of a Class of Arrester in the L.A. specs for 500 kV written"min 4", the
word "min" indicates the minimum required value, The manufacturer may offer
a high la class.
