High Middle Ages in Europe Group Project

World History I – Ms. Rodolico

Objective:
Students will collaborate with classmates to investigate the political, religious and
economic conditions of Europe during the High Middle Ages and prepare a
PowerPoint presentation for the class.

Procedure:
The class will be divided into groups of five students; the students on each team
will be assigned five separate tasks:
Section 1 Expert - Growth of Royal Power in England and France
Section 2 Expert - The Holy Roman Empire and the Church
Section 3 Expert - Europeans Look Outward
Section 4 Expert - Learning, Literature, and the Arts
Section 5 Expert - A Time of Crisis

Each group will work together to research conditions in Europe during the high
Middle Ages and create a presentation for the class.

Expert groups may work together during the research period.

Experts in each group will teach their team members about their topic. Each
expert must prepare a written outline (like the notes I give you) or handout of the
pertinent facts on their topic, posted on the wikipage.

Requirements:
Each group must create a Powerpoint presentation with a minimum of 20 slides (4
per person) Each group must answer all of the questions and address all of the
subjects in each of the expert groups.

In addition to the Powerpoint, each individual student is required to write an essay


of their choice and complete a vocabulary / Guided Reading packet.

Any student who misses more than two day of class during the two weeks we
work on this will be responsible for all three essays.

All work must be your original writing – NO COPYING AND PASTING!

Grading :
Students will be graded on the Powerpoint, Essay, Guided Reading Packet, Group
Evaluation and Ms. Rodolico’s Evaluation, please see rubrics.

Research days in the library and in the classroom.
Tasks :
1.Students may work alone or with other experts for their topic to
find and compile information, pictures and graphics.
All work should be saved on the computer and posted
to wiki.

2. Groups should decide on presentation format, etc. and enter


information into their Powerpoint as it is ready.

3. By the end of the day on Thursday, all students must be


prepared to complete their handouts for their team
members.

Tasks:
1. Each expert will instruct the rest of the group on her topic.
2. Students should fill in information for their vocabulary packets
in original sentences.
3. Students will also continue entering info into their presentations.
