Standard Description

1.2.2 It is not the intent to specify completely herein all details of design and
construction of the equipment and / or structures / works covered under this
Contract. However, all equipment and works shall conform in all respects to
high standards of design engineering, materials of construction,
workmanship and shall also be in line with the current practice for reliable
and efficient functioning of the plant and be capable of performing in
continuous commercial operation upto the Contractor’s guarantees in a
manner acceptable to the Owner.
1.2.5 In the event of conflict between requirements of any two clauses of this
specification/documents or requirements of different codes/standards,
specified, the more stringent requirement as per the interpretation of the
Owner shall apply.
1.2.6 The Bidder may also make alternate offer provided such offers are superior
in his opinion, in which case, adequate technical information and
justifications, operating feedback data etc. shall be enclosed with the offer,
to enable the Owner to assess the superiority and reliability of the
alternative offered without the need to seek any further clarification or
explanation. In case of each alternative offer, its implications on the
performance, guaranteed efficiency, auxiliary power consumptions and
definite advantages the Owner can positively derive shall all be clearly
brought out along with commercial implications, if any for the Owner to
make an overall assessment. In any case, the base offer shall necessarily
be in line with this specification. An alternative offer without the base offer
as per the specification shall not be considered.
1.3.3 Services:
1.3.3.1 Facilities to be provided by the Contractor
a) Bidder shall furnish a list of tools, tackles and any other equipment required
to carry out the unloading and erection of transformers at site.
b) Bidder shall arrange all testing and commissioning equipment such as
capacitance and tan delta measurement kit, winding resistance
measurement kit or any such equipment, required for testing and
commissioning of transformers at site
c) Contractor shall supply all the inserts required for fixing the equipment
including the foundation bolts before concreting and shall furnish complete
data required to design the foundation. Contractor should ensure supply of
all foundation bolts at site within one month from the date of approval of
foundation drawings and foundation bolts drawing or six months before
dispatch of transformer.
d) Earthing strips required for earthing the transformer body and its cooling
equipment accessories

Bidder shall obtain the purchaser’s approval in-
writing before procurement of the insulating sleeve /
cover.
49 Porcelain used for Homogeneous & shall be roughly vitrified, tough &
bushing impervious to moisture.

51 Cable Box at HV side as a) HV Cable box shall be phase segregated up to 500 mm
well as LV side From Top of the cable box.
b) Splitting of LV Box (Bus Duct) i.e.
LV1, LV2, LV3 & LV4 in separate box.
c) Cable box height shall be adequate for ease in cable
termination. i.e. Gap between Cable termination point and
gland plate shall be minimum 1100 mm. Further, HT cable
gland plate is to be provided in two equal parts.
d) HV and LV cable box bus bar shall be of Copper only.
Busbar shall be designed for 120 % of FLC considering
continuous overloading.
e) Cable box door shall be provided with hinge arrangement
for ease in O&M activities.
f) Shall be air insulated type and shall be of sufficient size to
accommodate cable along with its termination.
g) The HV termination should be through a bus bar
arrangement (50X6 mm tinned copper) & supported by 36
KV class insulators.
h) HV and LV bushing shall be connected to busbar through
flexible links/jumpers to avoid any stress on bushings.
i) Copper Flexibles shall be made of braided copper or
laminated copper of minimum 300 mm lengths and flexible
portion shall have sufficient length to take care of expansion
& contraction.
j) Cable boxes shall have removable top cover & ample
clearance shall be provided to enable either transformer or
each cable box to be subjected separately to high voltage
test.
k) Clearance in HV Cable box shall be as per CBIP+15mm

m) FRP Plate partitioning between phase to phase terminals
throughout the box. The FRP fixing shall be detachable type
such that during cable termination it shall be possible to
remove the plate and fix later on.
n) Gasket (Rubberized cork sheet) for inspection covers/
door shall be minimum 8 mm thick.
o) Sheet thickness for HV& LV cable box shall be 3 mm (
minimum)
p) HV cable box enclosure shall have IPW-55 DOP.
q) Provision for armour earthing through GI strip of
adequate size will be provided at Left / right side of HV
cable box.
LV box suitable for Bus Duct.
52 Support structure of HV For HV cable Box minimum two GI steel supports
cable box and LV Bus shall be provided. In addition to above these supports shall
Duct be provided from Transformer tank for cable box.
53 Ladder Ladder shall be provided.
54 4-20 mA feedback 4-20 mA feedback is to be provided for OTI and WTI for
SCADA interfacing.
1.6 Construction
1.6.1 The transformer shall be provided with conventional single
compartment conservator with prismatic toughened glass oil
gauge. The top of the conservator shall be connected to the
atmosphere through indicating type cobalt free silica gel breather
with transparent enclosure. Silica gel shall be isolated from
atmosphere by an oil seal. Rectifier transformers shall be provided
with Magnetic Oil Gauge (MOG) with low oil level alarm contact.
1.6.2 It is the responsibility of the Contractor to ensure that the Rectifier
transformer comply with all the requirements of Rectifier provided
by the Rectifier manufacturer.
1.6.3 The transformer shall be suitable for continuous operation with a
frequency variation of ± 5% from nominal frequency of 50 Hz
without exceeding the specified temperature rise.
1.6.4 Transformer shall have 150 mm dial type Oil Temperature
Indicator (OTI) and Winding Temperature Indicator (WTI) with
alarm and trip contacts. All indicators shall have accuracy of 1.5%.
For Rectifier transformers, WTI shall be provided for all the
windings.
1.6.5 The radiators shall be detachable type, mounted on the tank with
shut off valve at each point of connection to the tank, lifts, along
with drain plug/ valve at the bottom and air release plug at the top.
1.6.6 Marshalling Box shall be of sheet steel, dust and vermin proof
provided with proper lighting and thermostatically controlled space
heaters. The degree of protection shall be IP 55. Marshalling Box
of all transformers shall be preferably Tank Mounted. One dummy
terminal block in between each trip wire terminal shall be provided.
At least 10% spare terminals shall be provided on each panel. The
gasket used shall be of neoprene rubber. Wiring scheme (TB
details) shall be engraved in a stainless-steel plate with viewable
font size and the same shall be fixed inside the Marshalling Box
door.
1.6.7 Buchholz relay, double float type with alarm and trip contacts,
along with suitable gas collecting arrangement shall be provided.
1.6.8 Rectifier transformer shall be provided with spring operated
Pressure Relief Dev ice (with trip contacts) with suitable discharge
arrangement for oil. For Auxiliary transformers, diaphragm type
explosion vent shall be provided.
1.6.9 Filter valve at top the tank and drain cum sampling valve at bottom
of the tank shall be provided.
1.6.10 All external surface of the transformer shall be painted with two
coats of epoxy-based paint of colour shade RAL 7032. Internal
surface of cable boxes and marshalling box shall be painted with
epoxy enamel white paint. The minimum dry film thickness (DFT)
shall be 100 microns.
1.6.11 LV and HV cable box shall be provided with disconnecting
chamber to facilitate the movement of transformer without
disturbing cable box and termination.
1.6.12 Air release plug, bi-directional wheel/skids, cover lifting eyes,
transformer lifting lugs, jacking pads, towing holes, core and
winding lifting lugs, inspection cover, rating plate, valve schedule
plate, accessories and terminal marking plates, two nos. of
earthing terminals shall be provided.
1.6.13 Rain hoods to be provided on Buchholz, MOG & PRD. Entry points
of wires shall be suitably sealed.
1.6.14 The accessories listed above are indicative only. Accessories
which are not mentioned above but required for satisfactory
operation of the transformers are deemed to be included in the
contract without extra charges.
1.6.15 Fire-protection for Rectifier transformer shall be provided in
accordance with relevant CEA regulations as amended time to
time.
1.7 Warranty
In case the contractor is not able to submit the test reports during
detailed engineering, the contractor shall submit the reports of
type/special tests either conducted by NABL accredited laboratory or
witnessed by Employer.
1.8.4 Routine Tests
Each completed transformer shall be subjected to following routine
tests as per the latest edition of IEC 60076 unless specified otherwise.
In case the equipment is not found as per the requirements of the Technical
specifications of NIT, all expenses incurred during site testing will be to the
contractor’s account and the equipment shall be replaced by him at free of
cost.
