Sally and John want to go for the matinée*. Do they stop at the concession stand?

* Some words in English have accents and are taken from other languages. “Matinée” is a French
word.

Sally: Hi John.
John: Hey, Sally. What's up?
Sally: Vanessa and Peter saw a really exciting movie.
John: Really? When did they watch the film?
Sally: They watched it on Thursday. It was a horror film.
John: Oh!
Sally: I'm a big fan of gore. I want to watch this scary movie. Can you watch the
horror movie with me?
John: Hmm, well, I prefer to watch action movies and reality TV shows, but I'll go
with you.
Sally: Really? I didn't know you like to watch reality TV shows!
John: Well, I do. What time do you want to see the show?
Sally: Let's go for the matinée. I need to get home early.
John: OK, sure.

Let's Review the Simple Past Tense

Use the Simple Past tense to talk about:

2. Finished event.
3. Specific time in the past.

Simple Past verb endings

Add -ed, or -ied to regular verbs to form the Simple Past.

Examples:
watch -- watched
work -- worked

Some verbs are irregular.

Examples:
see -- saw
take -- took
have -- had

Forms Example
