1. Determine the magnitude of the projection of the force F1 along cable AC.
2. Determine the magnitudes of the components of the 600 N force acting along and
perpendicular to segment DE of the pipe assembly.
3. The combine action of the three forces on the base at O may be obtained by establishing
their resultant through O. Determine the magnitudes of R and the accompanying couple
M.
4. Replace the two-force system by an equivalent resultant force and couple moment at
point O. Take F = -400 N I + 350 Nj -200N K.
5. Determine the magnitudes of FA and FB so that the resultant force passes through point
O of the column.
6. If the roller at A and the pin at B can support a load up to 4 kN and 8 kN, respectively,
determine the maximum intensity of the distributed load w, measured in kN/m, so that
failure of the supports does not occur.
7. The beam is subjected to the two concentrated loads. Assuming that the foundation exerts
a linearly varying loading distribution on its bottom, determine the load intensities w1 and
w2 for equilibrium in terms of the parameters.
8. Determine the components of the reaction at the fixed support A. The 400 N, 500 N, and
600 N forces are parallel to the x, y, and z axes, respectively.
9. Determine the reactions at A and B for the beam subjected to the distributed and
concentrated loads.
10. Determie the components of the reaction at the fixed support A. Neglect the thickness of
the beam.
11. Determine the forces in the members CD, CJ, and DJ.
12. Determine the forces in member HP of the loaded truss. Members FP and GQ crowithout
touching and are incapable of supporting comression.
13. Determine the length b of the triangular load and its position ‘a’ on the beam such that
the equivalent resultant force is zero and the resultant couple moment is 8 kN.m
clockwise.
14. Replace the loading by an equivalent force and couple moment acting at point O.
15. Determine the magnitude of the equivalent resultant and its location, measured from
point O.
16. Determine the force in members CD, CF, and CG and state if these members are in
tension or compression.
17. Determine the force in each of the members, state if the members are in tension or
compression.
20. For the beam shown, determine the magnitude P of the two upward forces for which the
maximum absolute value of the bending moment in the beam is as small as possible.
Determine also the corresponding maximum value of Mmax .
21. Calculate the reaction at A, and then determine the internal loading at B
22. Determine the location of 𝑦̅ of the centroidal axis 𝑥̅ − 𝑥̅ of the beam’s cross-sectional
area. Neglect the size of the corner welds at A and B for the calculation.
