METHOD STATEMENT FOR HVAC

OBJECTIVE
The objective of this method statement is to describe the methodology to be followed for
installing HVAC system as per the approved drawings to the required line and level as per the
approved specifications

SCOPE
Procedure shall be adopted for all the works of Architects Evolution for the Sandvik Asia Pvt.
Ltd.

REFERENCE
o Technical Specification
o Approved relevant shop drawings
o BOQ item no :- SAND-BOQ-HVAC-00 – SECTION I

RESPONSIBILITY
o Section in-charge/Supervisor
Concern section in-charge/Supervisor shall execute out work as per procedure and
maintain the check list for work
o QA/QC Engineer
To ensure proper methodology is being followed during execution.

SAFETY PRECAUTION

o GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

o Only skilled persons shall handle the activities


o Ensure that material handling shall be done in proper manner
o Use of PPE’s like goggles, hand gloves, helmet and safety shoes shall be ensured
o Proper lighting in work area shall be ensured
o Proper platform for the height works shall be ensured

o HOT WORK SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

o Use of hot work safety PPE’s such as protection shield, heat-resistant gloves
o Compressed gas cylinder safety guide line shall be followed
o Suitable fire extinguishing equipment shall be immediately available in the work area
and shall be maintained in a state of readiness for use
o Fire watch for 1 hour after completion of hot work

o ELECTRICAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

o Always use insulated tools while working


o Always use appropriate insulated rubber gloves
o Use of lock out tag out procedure while working circuit breaker

TOOLS
o Tube Cutters, Tubing Bender, Flaring Tools, Manifold Gauge, Drill machine, Soldering
tool, Reciprocating saw, Thermometer, Pipe wrench, Plier, Wooden hammer, Screw
driver, Scaffolding, Ladder

METHOD STATEMENT

A] REFRIGERATION PIPE WORK

o Refer and understand HVAC layout SAND-G-HVAC-2001-R0 provided by designer


o Cross check the drawing with other services drawing of FHS, Electrical
o Establish the piping route and mark using liner on ceiling
o Mark the position for indoor cassette unit
o Consider the finish floor level for height level marking of indoor cassette unit
o Fix fastener support and 10mm GI hanger rod at distance not more than 1mtr with ladder
type cable tray as per marking
o Install refrigerant piping system to be as short and direct as possible, with a minimum
number of joints, elbows and fittings with soldering joint
o All piping joints to carried out as per OEM standard procedure
o Ensure that all pipework unfinished ends are capped off at all times
o Brazing process shall carried out for leak and strength test for all R410 system
o All completed system shall be, strength and leak tested with dry nitrogen, if the system is
found to be leak free, the final pressure readings are to be noted.
o Pressure test to be held for period of 24 hrs.
o Insulation of refrigerant pipe work

B] DRAIN PIPE WORK

o Refer and understand HVAC layout SAND-G-HVAC-2001-R0 provided by designer


o Establish the piping route and mark using liner on ceiling
o Fix fastener support and 10mm GI hanger rod with c clamp at distance not more than 1mr
o Installation 25mm to 50mm hard pvc drain pipe with U-trap for individual unit as per
drawing
o Drain pipe run should have minimum slope of 1:100
o Leak and function test of pipeline after completion

C] ELECTRICAL WORK

o Refer and understand HVAC layout SAND-G-HVAC-2002-R0 provided by designer


o Establish the cabling route from outdoor unit to indoor unit and mark using liner on
ceiling
o Establish the cabling route from outdoor unit to HVAC panel/DB and mark using liner on
ceiling
o Laying of 25mm pvc conduit and fixing with metal saddle
o Laying of 3CX2.5Sq.mm copper shield cable through pvc conduit for ODU to IDU
o Provide and install surface switch board with 15A switch and socket for individual indoor
unit
o Laying of 4CX16Sq.mm Cu conductor armored cable for HVAC panel to ODU
o Testing and commissioning of cabling at HVAC panel/DB

D] INSULATION

o All refrigerant, drain pipe and duct shall be insulated with 19mm thick closed cell rubber
nitrile, Class “O” armaflex insulation
o For pipes expose to atmosphere should cover with woven glass cloth finished with UV
treated, pigmented epoxy

E] DUCTWORK

o Refer and understand HVAC layout SAND-G-HVAC-2001-R0 provided by designer


o Cross check the drawing with other services drawing of FHS, Electrical
o Establish the FA/RA duct route and mark using liner on ceiling
o Fix fastener support and 10mm GI hanger rod with 75mm to 50mm GI perforated tray
o Ensure that support should be within 300mm of any bend and mating flange
o Fabrication of 24 gauge GI duct with TDF flange as per drawing and ducts to be properly
sealed along the joints and flanges with sealant
o Installation of duct over suspended trays in appropriate levels
o Fabrication of 18 gauge GI plenum duct and support with 10mm hanger rod
o Insulation of duct and plenum with 19mm armaflex insulation
o Connecting duct and plenum with 100mm pre insulated flexible duct to fix with end
clamps
o Installation of 25mm panel thickness 1200cfm cabinet type fan on location given in
drawing
o Installation of automatic duct flow controller for fresh air control at cassettes, duct and
specific location marked on drawing
o Installation of volume control damper of GI opposed blade construction, hand operated
lever on location given in drawing
o Access door shall be provided for damper wherever applicable
o Leak and function test after completion of work

F] COMMISSIONING

o Test and check for individual supply run and provide ferule as per serial number
o Termination of cables for every indoor machine
o Connect monitor tool and check system connection report
o Start up the system and run each indoor unit one by one to check operation on different
modes
o Carry out airflow and static pressure drop
o Creation of as built drawings
