Comparative & Superlative Adjective Forms

1. One Syllable Adjectives


Comparative = adjective + er Superlative= adjective + est
Simple Form Comparative Superlative
1) big 1) bigger than 1) the biggest
2) fast 2) faster than 2) the fastest
3) nice 3) nicer than 3) the nicest

2. Two Syllable Adjectives finished in « Y »


Replace the final « y » for « i » + er in Comparative and for « i »+ est in Superlative
Simple Form Comparative Superlative
1) easy 1) easier than 1) the easiest
2) friendly 2) friendlier than 2) the friendliest
3) happy 3) happier than 3) the happiest

3. Irregular Adjectives
There is a different word for each one in their Comparative and Superlative forms.
Simple Form Comparative Superlative
1) good 1) better than 1) the best
2) bad 2) worse than 2) the worst
3) far 3) farther than 3) the farthest

4. Two or more Syllable Adjectives


Comparative = more + adjective Superlative= the most + adjective
Simple Form Comparative Superlative

3) incredible 3) more incredible than 3) the most incredible

5. Participle Adjectives
Comparative = more + adjective Superlative= the most + adjective

6. Compound Adjectives (two words)


Comparative = more + adjective Superlative= the most + adjective
