INTERAC ALT VIDEO DEMONSTRATION

This video should demonstrate your potential or ability to teach in a classroom environment.
The demonstration lesson video should NOT EXCEED 7 minutes in total.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR DEMONSTRATION LESSON VIDEO

The video must contain ALL of the four tasks.

TASK ONE (~60 seconds)

Deliver a one minute self introduction to the Interac hiring managers. Please briefly talk about your
background. Please also include answers to the following questions:
 Why do you want to teach in Japan with Interac?
 What is your greatest strength?
 What are your hobbies / interests?
If you speak Japanese, please include some when completing this task.

TASK TWO (~60 seconds)

Task two demonstrates your voice projection and diction. There are two options for Task Two.
1. Read aloud from a short story book. OR
2. Read from the following short script.

Interac was established in 1972 and since our foundation the company has expanded into the ALT
market to become the leading private organization for ALTs in Japan. Interac’s vision is
incorporated in our corporate philosophy: “Through providing ‘whole person’ educational services
that enrich the hearts, minds, and lives of people of all ages, we will achieve a more meaningful
society. By promoting a deeper understanding of the world’s languages, cultures, and learning, we
will contribute to more harmonious and closely knit relations among all people.” We now have
over 3600 ALTs living and working all over Japan. The company may be large, but we measure our
success not in numbers, but in the joy of both the students and ALTs in the classroom.

TASK THREE (1 ~ 2 minutes)

Do a warm up activity for a class of third year elementary school students. Assume that the
students are familiar with the vocabulary. Do not describe what you intend to do, go straight into
the activity. The purpose is to get the students ready for English class. Good examples could range
from an active song to a game or an activity that requires little or no preparation.

1
TASK FOUR (2 ~ 3 minutes)
Choose one of the three options below. These are based on high school materials. Using ONE of the
options as a reference, please prepare and demonstrate the final activity that you would use in a
high school class. Make sure you drill the required vocabulary. Be sure to model, NOT explain your
activity.

TIPS TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR PRESENTATION

 For a successful demo lesson:

 Find a quiet place

 Improvise (if you don’t have a blackboard use poster paper)

 Dress to impress

 Find the a good angle (if possible get help from a friend)

 Find your light

 Practice never hurts

 Smile, be enthusiastic, don’t be shy

When evaluating your demo lesson, areas such as enthusiasm, gestures, smile and praise are
