1.0 Objective:

The purpose of this method statement is to describe the concreting for Raft concrete works
Madipur Hospital project in conformance to the procedures & requirements of the project
contract specifications including formwork.

This method statement will ensure that all related activities are executed in accordance to the
specification requirements and safety measures are implemented throughout the progress of
works.

2.0 Scope of work:

This method statement details the process of concrete work for Raft concrete works in building
areas during the construction phase of Madipur Hospital project.

3.0 Access/Egress:

 Proper access and egress will be ensured before and until completion of work.
 The pre-fabricated staircase will be provided for the safe access for workforce.
 Temporary signage will be provided at access and egress. Approaches and exits shall be
clearly defined by barricades and warning/caution signs.
 Unauthorized entry shall be restricted in the site area.
 Temporary earth Ramp will be used specifically for the purpose of movement of
Construction vehicles and equipment.

4.0 Lighting:

Proper lighting arrangements like Metal/ LED floodlights shall be provided for visibility purpose.

5.0 Responsibility

Organize and manage all resources and field activities to


achieve an efficient & effective completion of the
activities.
CONSTRUCTION MANAGER Shall arrange all materials, equipment, safety related
items and manpower.
Shall direct the Site Engineers & foremen to resort to
appropriate action for the smooth execution of work.
Shall ensure execution of works in sequence as per
approved methodology and in accordance to the
approved drawings and shall be responsible for the
execution of work with all respect of safety and quality.
SITE ENGINEER
Aware of all procedure work instructions & explains to
the task force in action for executing all activities as per
contract requirements, approved procedures and
drawings.

Note: Mix component may be change after the moisture correction before the start of
concrete other than Cement and Flyash.
Concrete mix shall comply with IS 456 and shall be approved by the Engineer.
Grade of concrete shall be as per the approved GFC drawing and BOQ as mentioned in M-35.

This will be as per the approved formwork Scheme drawing for footing.
 Reinforcement
Reinforcement will be as per the approved GFC Drawing and BOQ of approved grade and
approved make.

9.0 SAFETY MEASURES :

 The equipment engaged in work will have the back alarm, horn, lights and all other
applicable safety devices. Certificate of worthiness will be provided before the
equipment is used.
 Workers shall carefully operate the hand tools and machinery with proper care and
safety.
 Site engineer / Supervisor to check working conditions / function check of applicable
safety devices before commencing of works shall do routine Inspection.
 All workmen should wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) like safety
helmets, gumboots/safety shoes, reflective jackets etc.
 Activity specific tool box talk will be given to the workforce before start of the job

10.0 SEQUENCE & METHOD OF WORK:

The sequential activity and corresponding methods are detailed below:

10.1 LAYING & FIXING OF REINFORCEMENT:

Laying and Fixing of reinforcement shall be done as per the approved procedure of fixing of
reinforcement. It will be ensure that before placing of concrete shall be inspected and
approved by engineer.

Extra care shall be provided during the placing of reinforcement

10.2 FIXING OF FORMWORK:

Fixing of formwork shall be done as per the approved shop drawing and Approved work
procedure and following things to be ensure.

 The formwork shall be true & rigid and shall have smooth and even surface and be
sufficiently strong to prevent deformation.
 The formwork shall be applied with release agents before fixing.
 The formwork shall be supported rigidly as planned in the scheme.
 The formwork shall be checked for dimensions and grids.
 Shuttering shall be checked for vertical and horizontal alignment and level.
 Formwork can be removed after minimum 16 hours from the completion of pouring.

10.3 CONCRETE PRODUCTION, HANDLING & TRANSPORTATION:

Concrete shall be ordered only after clearance of Pour Card from TPQA/ Client.

For Concrete production, fully automatic concrete Batching Plant shall be deployed. The
Concrete will be from the from the Approved RMC source or from the site established batch
plant. Grade of concrete for footing shall be used as per approved Design Mix and GFC
Drawing.

 Concrete shall be handled and transported from batching plant at site to working level
using Transit Mixer without any segregation.
 The Transit mixers will be covered with hessian cloth in the summer season.
 The concrete to be placed with in the three hours from production time.
 The Batch Plant will send a DC slip mentioning the grade of concrete and the location
indented.
 The pump supervisor will verify the DC for Required grade before unloading.
 The slump will be measured and recorded for every Transit Mixers.
 The concrete shall not be tampered with addition of water.
 Re-dosing of concrete shall be done in additional case after approval of Engineers in
charge.
 The sample of concrete removed from TM and cubes are cast as per ITP.

10.3.1 Concreting during Hot Weather

 Spraying of aggregates with water


 Covering of transit mixer drum with damp hessian.
 Use of slump retention admixtures (retarders)
 Protection of newly placed concrete from direct sunlight and wind by covering with
damp hessian.
 Covering of the hessian with polythene sheet to slow down heat dissipation and
evaporation.
 Arrange the sprinkle of water after initial set of concrete.
 Concrete temperature will be kept, preferably 40 Degree (+/-2)

10.3.2 Concreting During Cold Weather


 No concrete having temperature below 5°C will be deposited.

10.3.4 Concreting in Inclement Weather

 Placing of concrete will not be carried out during storms or heavy rains or when the
storms/heavy rains are imminent.
 Sufficient timber and plastic/tarpaulin sheeting will be available close to the pouring
area to provide immediate protection in the event of heavy rain. In the event or
likelihood of rain, temporary tarpaulin shed will be erected over the pouring area to
protect the fresh concrete from rain.

10.4 CONCRETE PLACEMENT AND COMPACTION:


10.4.1 - General:-

 Ensure reinforcement and formwork is duly inspected prior to lying of concrete.


 The waterproofing membrane surface to be cleaned and water sprayed to make it wet.
 Check and ensure the all waterproofing & membrane checked and signed by the client
 Concrete shall be placed carefully to avoid displacement of side shutter and
reinforcement.

 The temperature of concrete at the time of placing will not be less than 5°C. & shall not
be more than 40°C.

10.4.2- Pouring and Compaction of Concrete:-

 Concrete will be poured in the location of the pour by concrete Pump.


 Concrete shall be placed carefully to avoid displacement of side shutter and
reinforcement.
 Concrete shall be poured in successive layers. The thickness of layers shall be in
accordance to the approved pour plan.
 Crystalline admixture shall be mix in concrete Transit mixer before the placement.
 Crystalline admixture ratio per BOQ clause No-14.11 shall be @0.80% (minimum) to
the weight of cement content per cubic meter of concrete
 The top level of concrete shall be marked.
 Compaction of Concrete shall be done using vibrators. Each layer of Fresh Concrete shall
be compacted by using vibrators.
 Sufficient numbers of vibrators will be kept available at site of work depending upon
size and duration of pour before start of work.
 Vibrators shall be facilitated at intervals to ensure proper compaction.
 Vibrator needle shall be inserted vertically inside the Concrete and shall be allowed to
penetrate through by its own weight.
 The vibrators shall be withdrawn slowly out of the Concrete.
 Adequate care will be taken to prevent contact of vibrators against reinforcement steel.
 It will be ensured that Vibrators will not be allowed to come in contact with forms.
 Finishing of concrete shall be done by using wooden/steel floats and steel trowels.

10.4.3- Construction Joints & Cold Joints

Construction joints (horizontal and vertical) shall be provided as per the Guidance of Engineer
in Charge/Client.
Construction Joint Preparation.
Construction joint shall be provided as per the approved pour plan.
Joint shall be treated with Nitobond or as approved.
Cold joints are not allowed in footing so in order to ensure that no cold joint occurs concrete
shall be filled in layers mot more than 300mm

10.4.4 Curing:

 Curing compound shall be applied in accordance with the approved method statement
for curing & immediately shall be covered with thermocol boards & HDPE sheet.

11.0 QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURE

 All testing/checking is done as per Field Inspections and Test Plan.


 Batch reports of every TM shall be checked for required grade of concrete as per
approved design mix to ensure the conformance of the concrete.
 Slump of concrete shall be checked to ensure workability of concrete for every Transit
Mixers at batching plant prior to dispatch of concrete.
 QC department will maintain concrete records. Slump test procedure will be as per IS
1199-1959
 Measurement of temperature of concrete shall be done on receipt of concrete mixer at
site as when required.
 Temperature of concrete & slump record of every TM shall be maintained & checked in
concrete abstract format (Fresh concrete record) as per the specification requirement
and IS standard.
 Concrete cubes shall be casted and tested for 7 & 28 days compressive strength with
proper identification marking as per the IS-456 and Revised specification (Table-4 Cl
3.9.4.1).
 Post Pour Checking shall be done after de-shuttering.

12.0 INSPECTION:

Inspection to be done as per the inspection and test plan & as per the approved during the
work.

13.0 RISK AND CONTROL MEASURES:

Anticipated Risk & Control Measures as per EHS Risk Assessment.


 EHS Risk Assessment for concrete works.

14.0 TRAINING OF WORK MEN


Site engineers with coordination of Quality Department shall do daily Pep talk and work
orientation of workers prior to start of work at activities at site.
 Controlled Copy of Work Methodology shall be distributed to Engineers involved in the
activity.
15.0 HOUSE KEEPING

Housekeeping of work place area to be ensured by section head and engineer.
