Paper Insulated
Magnet Wire

Construction

Bare or enameled copper wires, round, squared or rectangular, covered

with one ore more layers of dielectric paper applied helically and
overlapped up to 50% according to specification.

Twin flat wire are also produced, two paper insulated flat or rectangular
wires paralleled and additionally covered with one or more layers of
paper.

Thermal Class

Paper Insulated Magnet Wires of CENTELSA are designed for a

Thermal Class of 90°C dry or 105° oil impregnated.

Characteristics

• Cellulosic paper thermally stabilized (Insuldur)

• Insulation Dielectric Strength: 7.0 kV/mm (272 V/mil)
• Insulation Thickness: one or more paper layers with different thicknesses
(50 to 200 •m) helically and up to 50% overlapped, to get total required
thickness.

• The mechanical properties of this Magnet Wire make it resistant to the

12
vibrations of the equipment where they are used. Being material hygroscopic,
they admit impregnating as oils of transformer or varnishes and increase
the thermal class up to 105° C.

• When choosing the section of a flat wire or rectangular wire is due to

consider that winding square or almost square conductors, these tend to
turn on their own axis and to lean on one of its edges. If the section is great,
the flat wire is very difficult to straighten and it is even a hardening of the
metal is obtained, producing additional winding difficulties.

• In order to avoid this disadvantage, it is recommended to choose flat wire

sections in which the thickness is at the most 2/3 of the wide one.

Applications

The Insulated Wires Magneto with Paper are used in power and
distribution transformers, dry or oil impregnated.

Sizes

Round Wire: 2.5 to 12.5 mm.

Squared Wire: 10 to 4 AWG
Flat Wire: See Graph Ranges of Manufacture Flat Wire.

Note: Other configurations and sizes not specified herein

are available upon request.

Handling of the Magnet Wire
In all the stages of manufacture of the Magnet Wires, CENTELSA
applies a special process (lubricant) with the purpose of preserving
the soft temper copper, so that the wire can be winded and be wound
with facility and so that it remains in the adequate position in a coil,
without backing down or unrolling.

Additionally, the user must have precautions during the subsequent

use of the wire to avoid that the work in cold hardens it, thus making
its winding easier. In order to avoid the rigidity derived from the handling
and to conserve the wire in good state, it is recommended to have
presents the following points:

1. To avoid operations of rewinding.

2. To avoid great tensions in winding so that the wire does not stretch,
because this is a form of work in cold that besides to modify the soft
temper, reduces the diameter. It is recommended not to apply in any
case, greater mechanical tensions for each size than the indicated
ones.

3. To avoid all unnecessary bending of the wire when winding, trying

to occupy the lesser possible number of pulleys or guides, the ones
that in any case will have a diameter greater than the one of the wire
heavier than uses in this device.

21
4. To store the spools in a right way, avoiding mistreat of the wire.

5. To place the spools in sites of approximate temperatures to 25°C

and relative humidity of 60%.

25°C

60%

6. It is important to make rotation of the wires according to the date

of reception.
