Shaka which is botanically identified as Tectona grandis Linn. which belong

to verbenaceae family1.It is a large sized deciduous tree dominant in mixed hardwood

According to Ayurveda, Darunaka is classified as one among the

Kshudrarogas in Susrutha Samhita2 and Kapala Roga in Ashtanga Hridaya3.This is a

condition manifested due to vitiation of vata and kaphadoshas which results in dryness

and itching in the scalp further leading to scaling

Dandruff is an extremely common disease, affecting around 50% of the world's

population irrespective of gender and ethnicity. It is prevalent in the age group15 – 504. No

population in any geographical region would have passed freely through, without being

affected by dandruff at some stage in their life. Its a global phenomenon and many people

find that dandruff can cause social or self-esteem problems.

As per the textual reference, the trial drug has kaphavatahara, kushtahara and

pramehahara property5. Oil prepared from the drug is widely used by the folklore

practioners over the years in Malappuram district, kerala. There are ample remedies

available for dandruff in market but the cost factor of many such formulations inspire for
