I Can Share – I can tell my story

SERIES POWER TRUTH: I am called to share the gospel.

SERIES POWER VERSE: I am proud of the good news! It is God’s powerful

way of saving all people who have faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles. ~ Romans 1:16
CEV

SERIES OBJECTIVE: At the end of the series, the kids will be encouraged to share the gospel
because they know that they are called to do so, and that there is at least one specific kind of
evangelism that is suited for them.
INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone! We continue with our series entitled, I Can Share, where we have been
learning about the different types of evangelism or sharing of the gospel. You may have
thought that telling people about Jesus is hard. You may have thought, “What on earth do I
say?” But it is actually very simple. It’s as easy as telling a story, which we will discuss today.

Guess the Fairytale

Let’s play Guess the Fairytale! I will describe the story of the fairytale without saying any word
from the title or the name of the characters. The person who is able to guess the fairytale gets
one point. Just to be fair, each player only gets to make one guess per round. Race to three!
(Jack and the Beanstalk, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Hansel and Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin,
The Golden Goose, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,
Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and the Magic Lamp)

Wow! You know your fairytales! Congratulations, teacher! The last time I read those fairytales
was when I was a child, or I saw their movies as an adult. But I knew the stories, so it wasn’t
hard for me to describe them. You know what, telling people about Jesus is as simple as that.
You will just tell people what you know or have experienced! It’s isn’t
WORD complicated at all. That’s what we will learn today in our topic, I can tell
my story.

Mark 5:1-20 ICB

I Can Tell My Story

After ministering at a certain place by the lake, Jesus and His disciples got on a boat to go
across the lake to another region. Jesus had an important mission there. He wanted to help a
man who had been suffering for a long time.
Mark 5:2-9 ICB 2  When Jesus got out of the boat, a man came to him from the caves where
dead people were buried. This man, who lived in the caves, had an evil spirit living in him.  3  No
one could tie him up, not even with a chain.  4  Many times people had used chains to tie the
man’s hands and feet. But he always broke the chains off. No one was strong enough to control
him.  5  Day and night he would wander around the burial caves and on the hills, screaming and
cutting himself with stones.  6  While Jesus was still far away, the man saw him. He ran to Jesus
and knelt down before him.  7-8  Jesus said to the man, “You evil spirit, come out of that man.”

But the man shouted in a loud voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High
God? I beg you, promise God that you will not punish me!”

Then Jesus asked the man, “What is your name?”

The man answered, “My name is Legion, because I have many spirits in me.”

In a Roman army, a Legion is a unit composed of 6,000 men. There were so many demons
living inside the poor guy! Jesus cast out demons from the man and sent them to a herd of
pigs nearby. The pigs ran towards the lake and drowned.

Mark 5:18-20 ICB 18  Jesus was getting ready to leave in the boat. The man who was freed
from the demons begged to go with him.
19
But Jesus would not allow the man to go. Jesus said, “Go home to your family and friends.
Tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you.” 20  So the
man left and told the people in the Ten Towns about the great things Jesus had done for him.
All the people were amazed.

What a story! The poor man had been possessed by demons and he had been suffering for a
long time. The demons had driven him crazy and he lived apart from his friends and family. He
lived in something like a modern-day cemetery. There, people chained him. But the demons
made him so strong that he could break the chains and hurt himself.

Can you imagine living that way? You have no control of yourself and all your loved ones are
afraid of you and leave you in an isolated place? Jesus’ heart went out to the demon-
possessed man. Jesus wanted to rescue him from his misery so he could live a life of freedom.

So, when Jesus cast out the demons from the man, the man was so happy! He had his mind,
body, and life back! It is totally understandable that he wanted to follow Jesus. But Jesus told
him to go to his family and friends and tell them about what happened. The man did not just tell
his family and friends, he told everyone in the Ten Towns and people were amazed!

POINT: I will tell people about what Jesus has done for me.

Just like what the demon-possessed man did, you can also tell people about what Jesus has
done for you. This is called a testimony. You can tell people about the time that Jesus healed
you. Or you can share to them about a wrong attitude that you had (like lying) and Jesus
helped you overcome it. Or it could be as simple as telling about a prayer that Jesus granted.
(Note to preacher: Because they are young, kids may not have a dramatic conversion story
like adults. But preacher is still encouraged to give his testimony as an example.)

As you share to people about what Jesus has done for you, you are telling them about your
testimony. A testimony glorifies God and leads people to Him. Testimonies are powerful. When
people hear about your story, they cannot help but marvel at God’s goodness and many of
them will also want to have the relationship that you have with the Lord.

SERIES POWER TRUTH: I am called to share the gospel.

SERIES POWER VERSE: I am proud of the good news! It is God’s powerful way of saving all
people who have faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles. ~ Romans 1:16 CEV

POINT TO JESUS

Matthew 10:32 CEV If you tell others that you belong to me, I will tell my Father in heaven that
you are my followers. A testimony is a powerful thing. When you tell people about what Jesus
has done for you, you are acknowledging that you belong to Him. And when you do so, Jesus
also tells God that you are His followers.

PRAYER

Dear Jesus, You have been so good to us. You have provided for everything that we need,
most important of all is the salvation from our sins. Please help us to tell people what You have
done for us, so they can also have the chance to believe in You. In Your name we pray, Amen!

CRAFTS
Reporter’s Microphone

Materials: Thick colored papers, aluminum foil, glue, scissors, tape, marker

Instructions: Create a box using colored paper by following the instructions

on this video: https://youtu.be/qiLhYdFPFws (credit to Crafts and Kutir). But
instead of making a flap cover for the box, fold it in as well and secure with
tape or glue. You can write your name outside the box and put TV under it (e.g. Kids TV). Roll
up another paper, making sure that the end will fit in the box. Secure with tape and insert in the
box. Crumple a piece of aluminum foil or paper into a ball. Secure with tape onto the box.

Closing Spiel: Do you remember making a microphone for our craft a few months ago? This is
similar, except that it is a reporter’s mic. You may have seen news reporters on TV telling us
about something that happened, which is the news story. Sharing our testimony is also as
simple as that. We are like news reporters who tell people what Jesus has done for us.

QUESTIONS

Huddle Question: What is one powerful thing that Jesus has done for you that you can tell
others about? Practice sharing your testimony. (Leaders, please guide them in this.)
