Course Description: This course is designed to provide students with broad overview of the nature of inquiry and explanation in political
science. The aim of this course is to provide students with an introduction to some of the key approaches and theories
currently popular in the study of politics, and in particular those approaches which from the foundation of political
analysis.
Program Outcomes:

1. Compare, contrast, and classify the major concepts in the discipline


2. Recognize and define the distinctiveness of the discipline, its subfields, theories and methods
3. Design and execute research inquiries using appropriate quantitative and qualitative methods guided by theories or conceptual frameworks
4. Demonstrate writers visual and oral presentation skills to produce and present analytical reports
5. Critique, judge and respond to current issues and problems based on a substantive understanding of the historical and contemporary
development in the national and global contexts
6. Develop a predisposition towards ethical political involvement and practice in various forms and on different levels of engagement

At the end of the second year, students will be able to master and in depth understanding of approaches in political inquiry designed to
furnish the information they need for a fruitful experience in the course.

11. Identify the range of analytic procedures or approaches that can be employed in the search for knowledge about politics.
12. The course ends with a look at the special features of contemporary politics at the international arena.

Introduction:

This learning packet for Introduction to Political Analysis and Research is designed to help students examine how political scientist formally
analyze important questions such as: why people vote, why do countries go to war, and how do the media or social movements influence policy
make processes. Specifically, students will learn
How to formulate good question research and hypotheses, how to design studies that will test those hypotheses, and how to use variety of research
methods to carry out systematic studies of political phenomena.

2. Schedule properly your reading assignments and your activity accomplishments.
3. Make sure that you do things one at a time. Read the materials and watch the videos over and over until you are able to get the point of the
lesson
4. You will be assessed through formative and summative methods. Kindly see requirements section at the end of this learning packet.
5. You are expected to submit your activities/ exams on the dates indicated in this learning packet. Late submission of activities/ exams will
be dealt based on classroom policies.
6. Your scores for assignments will be notified to you throughout your period of study.
7. You can learn a great deal from discussing aspects of your learning packet with others. Opinions and insights formed while discussing with
other people are no less valuable than those you form while reading books or listening to lectures. There’s nothing wrong in discussing with
your classmates but it should be done before you begin your individual activities. But when you sit down and do individual activities you are
expected to work alone and not to use the work of others (in its entirety or in part) as if it is your own.

Summative Assessment Methods:


Quizzes, Unit test, Recitation, Online Synchronous and Asynchronous Activities, Periodic Examinations, Individual and group reporting
Note: Rubrics for each class work will be given by your instructor during the briefing before the activity.

GRADING SYSTEM:
Semestral Grade = (Prelim Grade*25%) + (Midterm Grade*25%) + (Semi-Final Grade*25%) + (Final Grade*25%)
For every grading period:
Periodic Exam – 40%
Student Course Work – 60 %
In order to earn a passing grade, the student should get a transmuted grade of 75%
