Indian Standard
SPECIFICATION FOR
PILE DRIVING HAMMER

0. FOREWORD

0.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution
on 14 February 1972, after the draft finalized by the Construction Plant
and Machinery Sectional Committee had been approved by the Civil
Engineering Division Council.
0.2 This standard has been prepared to assist manufactur&s and designers
in production of pile hammers to certain standardized parameters. The
object is to keep weights of hammers to a limited range and to standardize
weight interval and stroke and thus facilitate their use \vith piling rigs and
piling attachments of di,Fi;-rent plants.
0.3 Standard sizes of hammers will assist the user in determining the type
and size of hammer he may procure lo plan his project accordingly. This
\vill further assist in early deliveries and replacements. The designers and
manufacturers may use their ingenuity to evolve improved designs ( within
the sizes given ) which may prove more economical in the long run.
0.4 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this
standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing
the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with
IS : 2-19Go*. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off
value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

1. SCOPE
1.1 This standard specifies the weights and strokes for different types of pile
hammers, the two important parameters on which the energy of the hammer
depends.

2. TERMINOLOGY
2.1 Fof the purpose ofthis standard, the definitions given in IS : 6427-1972f
shall apply.

3. CLASSIFICATION
3.1 Pile hammers shall be classified as given in Table 1.
