PROSPECTUS FOR THE SESSION 2019-20
1. THE UNIVERSITY.
The Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) was established in the
year 1962 in accordance with the provision of the Orissa Act 20 of 1961 and is a State
Agriculture University. It has the triple function of teaching, research and extension.
The University offers education at the undergraduate and post graduate level in
Agriculture, Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Engineering & Technology ,
Fishery Science, Home science, Forestry , Horticulture and Basic Sciences. Three Career
Oriented Master’s Programmes in Computer Science and Application, Bio-informatics and Agri-
Business Management are offered by the Centre for Post Graduate Studies as self-financing
courses. Research and Extension programme are carried out at the Regional Research and
Technology Transfer Station (RRTTS) and/or sub stations/ Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) located
in different parts of Odisha.
2. THE COLLEGE OF BASIC SCIENCE & HUMANITIES.
The College of Basic Science & Humanities was established in 1964 as the third
constituent College of OUAT, Bhubaneswar.
The college offers teaching at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. At the UG
level, facilities for Honours courses are available in 8 subjects namely, Physics, Chemistry,
Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology, Microbiology and Computer Science. At the Post
Graduate level, the college offers Master’s degree programme in Physics, Chemistry, Botany,
Zoology, Mathematics, Microbiology and Biotechnology. Further, it offers the Ph.D. programme
in Microbiology. The B. Sc., M. Sc. and Ph. D. Courses offered are under the semester system.
In addition to the above, the college offers supporting courses to the students of other
constituent colleges of OUAT.
3. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION.

Candidates must have obtained minimum 50% marks in concerned Honours/Core/Major
subjects. For Graduates of Agriculture and allied subjects who are eligible for admission into M.
Sc. (Microbiology), should have minimum 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent. A candidate
belonging to SC/ST shall have obtained a minimum of 45% marks in concerned Honours
subject.
3.2. For Ph. D. Programme
Ph. D. Course Minimum qualification
Microbiology M. Sc. in Microbiology from any UGC recognised
University with a minimum mark of 65% or OGPA

5. RESERVATION.
22.5%, 16% and 05% of seats are reserved for ST, SC and persons with
disability (PWD) candidates respectively for P.G. Admission. One seat will be
reserved for NRI & Foreign candidates over and above the intake capacity for P.G & Ph.
D in Microbiology.
NRI: Candidates seeking admission under NRI Quota shall be required to apply in
application for sponsorship of candidate along with the photo copies of VISA/proof of
permanent residential certificate and PASSPORT of themselves or of the sponsoring
persons (Parents / nearest relatives) which are valid till the last date of admission. The
signature of the NRI sponsor must be same as in the passport and sponsoring
certificate. Photo copy of such VISA & PASSPORT should be uploaded along with its
English version issued by competent authority form respective embassy / consulate. The
candidate should produce recent proof of Residentship of the NRI Sponsor such as
Electric bill / Telephone bill / Water bill etc. of the respective country where he / she is
residing at present within last six month. A Non resident Indian (NRI) can Sponsor only
one candidate in an academic year.
Make Payment: The application fee of Rs.1350/- per application can be paid besides
bank charges as specified by the Bank depending upon the mode of payment
selected through online payment gateway using Internet Banking / Debit Card/
Credit Card of any bank. Payment can also be made through nearest Common
Service Centre (Jana Seva Kendra) in cash mode. Fees, once paid, cannot be
refunded to candidates under any circumstances. Once you pay the fee, you will
receive a message confirming the payment.
6.3 Editing the online Application Form: You can edit any particular including
Graduation / Post Graduation mark (if result was not declared by the date of
application). For this 3 days are given from 23.06.2019 to 25.06.2019 mid night for
PG and one day is given on 16.08.2019 for Ph. D.
6.4 Download of Admit Card:
When the admit card is ready an SMS will be sent to your mobile. The Admit Card
can be downloaded from the website (www.ouat.nic.in or https://www.lokaseba-
odisha.in) by logging in using his/her login ID and Password. The admit card will
never be sent through post. The candidate must bring the Admit card with any of
the following original identity proof to the Entrance Examination Centre for
verification.

6.5. Intimation-cum-Rank Card Download: When Intimation is ready, an SMS will be
sent to your mobile. You will login using the login ID and Password given to you and
download the intimation letter. Intimation letter will never be sent through post.
6.6. Important Information.
1. Candidates must submit the application with application Fee within the last date of
submission of application form i.e. 22.06.2019 for P.G. and 14.8.2019 for Ph.D.
Application without fee will not be considered for entrance examination and
admission.
2. After successful payment, the candidate should take printout of computer generated
filled in Application Form with payment detail for his/her personal record

cum-rank card and other necessary information will be sent to you only by SMS and

please create a new e-Mail ID. You will be provided with a login ID and password to

references. Your Admit Card, rank and intimation-cum-rank card can be accessed
online by using the links provided in the website www.ouat.nic.in /
https://www.lokaseba-odisha.in. No separate physical communication would be sent.
4 A candidate is required to submit one application for each subject for which he/she
wishes to be considered for admission.
5. The data obtained from the candidate while applying online will be used for the
purpose of generating Admit Card for Entrance Examination. Hence the applicants
are advised to submit data accurately as required while applying online.
6. Hard copy of application must should not be sent to OUAT.
7. The University will not be liable to refund the application fees deposited by the
candidate.
7. SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
7.1 There shall be an admission Board for the Academic Session with Dean, Post
Graduate Faculty-cum-Director Resident Instructions as Chairman and Director,
College of Basic Science & Humanities as one of the members. Three teachers,
from the College of Basic Science & Humanities as nominated by the Vice
Chancellor shall be the members of the board. The admission board will scrutinize
the application forms, prepare the merit list and will conduct the admission of the
candidates.
7.2 The selection for admission into different Post Graduate programmes except M.Sc.
Microbiology and Biotechnology will be based on entrance examination and
career marks of the candidates. For M.Sc. Microbiology & Biotechnology only
career marks will be considered.
7.3 Entrance Examination: P.G. & Ph. D candidates have to appear in the entrance
examination in the College of Basic Science and Humanities, O.U.A.T on
30.06.2019, at 11.00am to 1.00pm and 24.08.2019 at 11.00am to 1.00pm
respectively. The examination will be of 2 hours duration and will carry 200 marks.
The questions will be of objective type with multiple choice covering the course
taught at Bachelor’s and Master’s Level respectively. For every correctly
answered question 4 marks will be awarded. For every wrongly answered
question -1 mark will be awarded. For every un-attempted question 0 mark will
be awarded. All candidates fulfilling the minimum eligibility will download admit card
and will appear in the entrance examination. No candidate shall be allowed to enter
the examination hall without admit card and identity proof as mentioned in the
section 6.4.
7.4 The selection for admission into different Masters’ or Doctoral Programme will be
based on merit of the candidates. There will be separate Merit Lists for each subject
of Master’s and Doctoral Programmes.
7.5 Merit list of the candidates shall be drawn up on the basis of the total score as
following.
In case of candidates having the same computed score, the tie shall be resolved and their
merit position will be decided on the basis of higher marks in the Aggregate of the
qualifying examination.
8. ADMISSION PROCEDURE (P.G.)
8.1 Admission into all Post Graduate subjects will be conducted centrally by the Admission
Board in phased manner as per the programme finalized by the academic council.
8.2 The merit list of the candidates for admission will be notified in the University and College
notice boards by the Dean, PGF cum DRI and will be floated in OUAT web site
8.3 In the event of any change in the scheduled date of admission the same will be notified in
the Notice Boards of the University and the College as well as in the website for
information of the candidates. This will also be sent to your mobile as SMS and to your
email.
8.4 A candidate who fails to appear for admission on the scheduled date, time and place will

8.7 Candidates who fail to submit their college leaving certificate/ conduct certificate will be
provisionally admitted and will be allowed five working days following the date of admission
admission will be cancelled if not decided otherwise. Candidate coming from Universities

10.1.1 A Master’s Degree programme is a full time study of two years which includes both
course work and research for dissertation. The maximum permissible period for

12 HOSTEL AND MEDICAL FACILITIES.
12.1 Hostel accommodation shall be provided to P. G and Ph. D students on merit basis
subject to availability of seats. After admission, the students shall apply to the Dean,
Students’ Welfare (DSW) through the concerned Dean / Director of the College for their
stay in a hostel. However, a student whose parents are staying at Bhubaneswar may be
allowed by the DSW for permission to stay outside the hostel during the course of his /
her study.
12.2 The University runs a Dispensary manned by experienced doctors and it provides

every year in the college to organize cultural/ athletic / sport activities. The students are
also allowed to participate in various inter college and inter university competitions at
state and national level to show their performances in extra curricular activities.
13.2 Students’ welfare: The Dean of students Welfare looks after the extra curricular
activities of the students. The university Employment information and Guidance Bureau
organizations.
14 STUDENTS DISCIPLINE.
A student shall abide by the disciplinary rules and Regulations of the college and the
University and shall not involve himself / herself in any objectionable conduct such as
of the above undesirable activities, he/she shall be liable for expulsion from the College
if the offence is grave. The expulsion from the College shall be ordered by the Director

There is provision for reimbursement of expenditure towards tuition/ hostel/ examination
fees and purchase of books/ clothing/medical expenses/boarding if their needs are
considered genuine.
