CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

“In the first chapter, clearly state what the purpose of the study is and

explain the study's significance. The significance is addressed by discussing

how the study adds to the theoretical body of knowledge in the field and the

study's practical significance for communication professionals in the field

being examined. Researchers also must explain how their research makes an

original contribution to the body of knowledge in their discipline. They also

should address the significance of the study for mass communication

education. It is especially critical that this chapter be well developed. Without

a clearly defined purpose and strong theoretical grounding, the thesis or

research is fundamentally flawed from the outset.“

“Nowadays, many private and public organizations use technology such as

cellphones and computers for having an efficient and effective transaction. Therefore,

technology became a very important aspect of every life of a person. It provides an

essential role thriving digital age to make every transaction faster.

The advancement of technology in society makes life easy, accelerated lifestyle

and living an active pace life. One of the local governments that use technological

transactions is the Quezon City. It is the first local government in the Philippines has a

computerized real estate assessment and payment system. However, not all transactions

and processes of the said city is with the use of technology. “

Generally, it is essential to have information in a convenient way and by that it

accelerates the productivity of everyone without wasting time so much, especially if the

people are not familiar in some places and offices inside the City Hall. Technology is the

key to make the society become more productive and efficient at the same time. So that,

the proponents developed a system for Quezon City Hall to help the workers and

citizens to align with the fast-growing city and to promote quality of service and avoid

waste of time finding the specific locations and requirements.

Background of the Study

“The background study for a thesis includes a review of the area being

researched, current information surrounding the issue, previous studies on the

issue, and relevant history on the issue. Ideally, the study should effectively

set forth the history and background information on your thesis problem.”

EXAMPLE

Quezon City Hall is one of the main places in Quezon City located at

Elliptical Road, Barangay Central, Diliman, Quezon City Metro Manila. It is

the place wherein the main transactions are available such as getting cedula,

NBI Clearance, Police Clearance, Health Certificate and many. Most people

that go in this place were new and asking for help because they did not know

the way and location of each department they needed to go. Additionally, they

do not know the requirements and processes of the specific transaction. They

tend to ask the guard or any authorized personnel who can approach about the

place they want to go. Therefore, the developers came up with the idea to

develop an Information Mapping Directory System using Kiosk for Quezon

City Hall that helps people to navigate the place they want to go inside the

City Hall. It also helps to know the processes and requirements for each

transaction.

Kiosk is one of the technologies used today. According to Wainer (2017)

it is a machine that can use for queuing, payment transaction or directories and

many more. In this study, the kiosk was used to handle all information, maps,

services and all transaction inside the Quezon City Hall. It provides

information quickly to the people going in the said place.

Objectives of the Study

visitor.

● The administrator can add and update the events, mapping process and the

user of each terminal can control to access the Kiosk machine.

● The system can print information in every specific transaction inside the

Quezon City Hall.

● The system can display the vicinity map of Quezon City Hall for the

mapping and providing ways where the user will go.

The following are the delimitations of the proposed system:

The system does not include mobile application for the navigation and mapping

of the Quezon City Hall.

The system does not support online basis for the mapping and navigation.

The system can access only inside the Quezon City Hall.

Quezon City Hall - Since digital method is the most conventional tool nowadays

in getting information, Quezon City Hall may be recognized as one of the cities

that utilizes modern technology system in giving information.

Staff in City Hall - The IT department is the primary beneficiary of the study.

The giving of information to the visitor will no longer be a hassle to the

management. Right after typing the visitor to kiosk to the information he needs,

the system automatically generates results.

Visitor - The study brings easiness in getting information. Upon accessing the

system, the visitor may start navigating the kiosk and be able to print the

information generated by the system.

Other researchers in the field of Information Technology - The study serves as

an avenue for sharing information, technical knowledge and new ideas for

developing system related in the study.

Administrator - It is a person who handles and manages the whole process

errors of system operation.

Network Layout - It describes the arrangement of systems on a computer

network. It defines how the computers or nodes within the network are

arranged and connected to each other.
