PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE

An Inspirational Message by:

Rev. Fr. Christopher Osares, SDS (BNHS Alumnus Batch 2007)

Good day everyone!

I would like to CONGRATULATE the “2021 Graduating Class of Burgos Senior High School-Grade 12
and Junior High School-Grade 10” for their inevitable hard work and glorious achievements.
Congratulations to all of you. You were able to win the battleground amidst pandemic. Be grateful for
what you have accomplished and congratulations to your parents and loved ones who have always been
with you throughout your journey.
My dear graduates, it had been a tougher and a challenging year for us. Life became harder due to health
restrictions and limited accesses inside and out. However, the pedagogy of this health crisis is telling us,
that no matter how hard life is, we should never stop dreaming and reaching our goal. That in every
challenge in life, we should never allow the negative environment to affect us and not be afraid to show
our talents and abilities in realizing our dream. This life-journey, patience and perseverance are always
the key to success.
Allow me to share with you my life-story after graduation and ended up as a priest this year. Like you, I
was anxious about my future. As a young graduate, I was always fascinated to study. Unfortunately,
entering college was impossible for me. I was one of those na gusto mag-aral pero walang pera. Unlike
others, na may pera pero ayaw naman mag-aral. Yet, even though life was hard, I still have not given up.
Wherever I go, I always carry my dream of finishing school, getting a degree, and find a decent job.
However, in the year 2010, medyo nabago ang ihip ng hangin. I entered the seminary. I thought it was
easy, but it's not. Eleven years is a lot. Oftentimes you have to fight your ego (Kadalasan kalaban mo ay
sarili mo). I was like a kite dancing in the middle of the hurricane tempted to give up. Both of my parents
were lost in 2015 and 2017. That time I seemed to have lost hope, but I have persevered and wanted to
reach my dream no matter what. I was dauntless enough to face these challenges. Kung kailan malapit na,
saka ka pa ba ako susuko? I have made many sacrifices; marami na ring kilay ang nasunog, marami na
ring luha ang dumaloy. Still, because of patience and perseverance, through the prayers of other people,
and because of God’s mercy and compassion, I have achieved what God had given me; to be a minister to
His people. I often asked myself if I was really called, yet, after spending several years of spiritual
discernment in the formation, purifying my intentions, God made the way for me to be called and chosen.
My priesthood journey reminds us, that success in life connotes sacrifices. If we want to succeed, we have
to sacrifice; just as Christ sacrificed himself for the sake of many. Every day we are called to be equipped
in life because the real hard work and pain is about to come. Time doesn’t wait for anyone, and we don’t
wait for it to fall in our lap, we have to make it happen. We have to endure and have a will power to make
it to the end.
My dear graduates, I say to you, cherish your dreams. No matter how far, as long as you have patience
and perseverance, reaching them would not be impossible. Graduation is not the end, but it gives us an
opportunity to reset our lives and expectations, to bring what is essential and to lose the unnecessary.
Always remember that the pursuit of knowledge is a never ending journey for all of us. Never give up.
The beginning is always the hardest. Difficult roads are often lead to beautiful destinations. So, use your
time wisely and always be patient.
Thank you for allowing me to share my life-journey as a newly ordained priest, may my stories inspire
you in your life as students and graduates.
I would like to acknowledge Ma’am Paulina Flores (District Supervisor), Sir Reynold R. Minguita (Head
Teacher III), Ma’am Lalane P. Arcena (MT I), Ma’am Josephine Salvacion (MT I), Sir Bonifacio Decoy

Congratulations to all of you and Mabuhay! God Bless BNHS and BSHS Family! Undaunted seal
In Divine Savior,
