ASSIGNMENT GUIDE

I. Output:
SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAM (SLP) IN NSTP-CWTS 2

NSTP 2 is a project-based course but before students will implement a

project they need to have clear direction. Significant to this is coming up with
their Student Learning Program (SLP). Student benefits of service-learning
Program include enhanced opportunities for learning, and personal and social
skill development. Students gain increased knowledge of academic materials,
their communities, and themselves.
Service-learning Program is a form of experiential education that supports
deep learning. Through their service-learning activities, students apply
knowledge in practical settings to enhance their understanding of class
materials.

Service-learning provides students with opportunities to develop civic

engagement skills. By working with community members, students can enhance
their group, organizational and interpersonal skills. They also can gain important
experience working with diverse members of their communities. Students can
also connect learning with societal issues.

Students can gain better understanding of themselves as they explore

and develop ways to contribute to their communities. They can develop self-
confidence and an enhanced commitment to public service.

II. Rationale

SLP is a short summary that tells the reader what the project is, why it is
important, and how it will be carried out. In essence, SLP embodies the ideas on
a certain topic or item of interest.

The SLP helps researcher spot holes in her or his project that might later
prove problematic. It is far better to be clear at the beginning than to put in a
lot of effort for nothing which is the reason why coming up with an SLP before
implementing a project is very important.

Service-learning can benefit all participants, students, faculty, academic

institutions, and their communities. Students gain academic knowledge and
skills, interpersonal skills, and self-confidence. Faculty can enhance the quality of
their teaching, find opportunities for research and outlets for professional
expertise. Service-learning supports the civic engagement mission of colleges
and universities and improves town/gown relationships. Community members
receive valued service and institutional support.
Despite the great thought and ideas that usually go into implementing of
a project, often there is always challenge that comes with it. Such lack of
planning may go largely unnoticed but it will greatly have an impact in the
implementation. It is therefore a first-hand defense to make sure that planning is
will polished before implementation.
This part presents the rationale behind the required output.

III. Materials:

A sample SLP will be given to the students which they will find in the
memory stick accompanying their module for NSTP 2 particularly module 3
which is all about planning. They will read and evaluate a sample SLP on Blood
Donation Apostolate; afterwards they will then create their own Service Learning
Program.

IV. Specific Guidelines

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SLP

1. The Service Learning Program (SLP) of the Blood Donation Drive Apostolate is
an example that students will use or benchmark to as their guide in
performing their activity under the explain part of module 3 as well as in
drafting their own SLP later on.

2. They are then asked to read and understand each part of the SLP.

3. From the knowledge gained in the module and after reading the example, it
is their turn to draft and make their own Service Learning Program for their
chosen project.

4. The students should be able to create SLP for their chosen project with the
guidance of the Supervising Instructor. The implementation of their SLP will be
subject to the approval of the Supervising Instructor and in coordination with
the Community Extension and Outreach Programs Office. The Supervising

the supervisee, who will also monitor the progress of your home-based
project. We will work together distantly in fulfilling your project to make it
successful. Collaboration and communication is very important for the
success of your community engagement learning project.

5. SLP will be evaluated using a prepared rubrics and will be submitted on the
given date in the module for correspondence and through Google
classroom for on line.
