Data and Business Logic are Intangible Asset

Data includes detailed facts or a set of attributes and the model of which is called the Relational
Model. In business, data is the plain facts and statistics collected during its operation. Business logic
itself, on the other hand, is intellectual in nature since it represents business thinking about the way
important decisions are to be made. It has its own existence, independent of how it is executed. A
unique representation of which is the Decision Model.

Both data and business logic are seemed to be intangible because they are not physical in
nature. They are assets without physical substance but have contributions to the operation of every
organization. These two assets are part of the organization’s intellectual property and are fundamentally
different from each other because the two models exhibit different native structures and guiding
principles. For data and business logic to become tangible, business thinking must be translated into a
visible, communicable form.

Making data and business logic intangible is beneficial because they both aims to organize
seemingly intangible assets with simplicity and with a declarative nature unbiased by other
considerations, particularly technology and usage constraints. Aside from that, by minimizing update
anomalies in their content and by easily accommodating change, data and business logic can achieve
optimal integrity. Both are valuable organizational asset that would remain elusive without such
representation. Despite being invisible, these two modeled assets are much easier to preserve, store,
and manage which efficiently drive the business’s decisions.

Maturity

The above-mentioned quote by Henri Bergson implies that everything that exists change. The
uncertainties brought about by these constant changes can significantly impact the business which
requires them to adapt, innovate and transform. Change is a key in achieving an organizational goal for
there can be no progress without it. Adaptability to change is a must in a business, acknowledging the
need to grow drives them to transform for the better. Also, the success of an organization is driven by its
ability to recognize significant challenges and immediately identify the strategic imperatives necessary
to address them. Accomplishing the goal of an organization requires innovation through organizational
thinking, creating, and sharing new kinds of business knowledge, identifying best practices and improve
process execution. By redefining and testing new Decision Model, business goes on creating itself
endlessly which is implicitly expected when an organization experience maturity. Change is inevitable
and being able to cope up with these changes and learning on how to take advantage of them will drive
a business to attain sustainability and growth.
