Create Report Net Content Store

 SQL Server Enterprise Manager.


 Expand Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server group.
 Expand Database Right –Click Database and then Click
New database.

The Database Properties Dialog box appears.

 In the name box type cm.


 In the collation name drop-down list, select
Latin1_Genaral_CI_AS and then Click OK.
2. Create the Sample Databases.
1. Adding GOSL & GORT Databases.
 While still in Microsoft SQL Server enterprise Manager, right
click Database and then click New Database.
 In the name box type, GOSL and then click OK.

 Repeat the above steps for GORT database.


2. Restore the sample Databases.

 Right click on GORT database point to All Tasks and


then click the Restore database.

 In the database dialog box click the From Device radio


button.
 Under Parameters click select Devices
Click on Add button.
 In the choose restore destination dialog box under select file
name.

 Above fig: Click the Ellipsis and browse to <Cognos


Reportnet Installation location\webcontent\Sample\db2\Sql
server\GORT, and then click OK.
 Click OK twice more.
 In the Restore Database dialog box, click the Options Tab.
 Click the Force restore over existing database check box
to select it.
 In the restore database file as pane, ensure the Restore as
path for both files in the move to physical file name column
points to the location of the GORT database.
 If you chose the default location when you created the
database the path should read.
 <SQL Server Location>\MSSQL\Data\GORT.mdf for the first
file and
 <SQL Server Location>\MSSQL\Data\GORT_log.ldf for the
second file.
Note: The GORT.mdf file may be called GORT_Data.mdf.
The result should appear similar to the one shown below

 In the screen capture, the data file is listed first in the logical
file name column, followed by the log file. If the positions are
reversed (in other words, if the log file is listed first), ensure
that each logical file name points to the correct physical file
location.

 Click OK.
 A message appears saying the restoration was successful
 Click OK to close the message

 Repeat Task 2 to restore the database for GOSL, ensuring


the logical files are pointing to the GOSL database.

Configure ReportNet

 Navigate to Start\Programs\Cognos ReportNet and then


click Cognos Configuration.

 In the Explorer pane of Cognos Configuration, right-click


Authentication,
 Point to New resource, and then click Namespace.
 In the New Namespace dialog box, under Name, type Local
NT, and
 From the drop-down list under Type, click NTLM.
 Click the cell in the Namespace ID row and the Value
column, and type Local NT ID, and then press Enter.

 In the Explorer pane under Authentication, click Cognos.


 To the right of Allow anonymous access, click True in the
Value column, and then click False to change the setting.

 With Anonymous access now set to False, students will


need to log in to Cognos Connection and provide a user
name and password.
 Click on Environment
In Environment-Group properties window
Gateway settings
Gateway URI and Dispatcher URIs for gateway -------Instead
of Localhost (Your Computer Name)
Dispatcher Settings
External and Internal dispatcher URI----Instead of
Localhost(Your Computer Name)
Other URI Settings
Dispatcher URI for External applications and Content
Manager URIs----Instead of Localhost(Your Computer
Name)
 Click Save configuration to save the new configuration
 Click Close to close the Cognos Configuration dialog box
after the configuration is saved, and all items have green
check marks beside them.
 Click Start to start the Report Net service.
 When all services are started, click Close.
 Close Cognos Configuration.

Create Local NT users

 From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click


Control Panel.
 Double-click Users and Passwords.

 In the Users and Passwords dialog box, click the Advanced


tab, and then under Advanced User Management, click the
Advanced button.

 In the Local Users and Groups window, in the left pane,


right-click Users, and then click New User.

 In the New User dialog box, in the User name box, type
query_author,and then in the password and confirm
password boxes, type qa1234.

 Click the User must change password at next logon check


box to clear it, click the Password never expires check box to
select it, and then click Create.

 With the New User dialog box still open, in the User name
box, type admin_person, and then in the password and
confirm password boxes,type admin1234.

 Click the User must change password at next logon check


box to clear it, click the Password never expires check box to
select it, and Then click Create.
 Click Close to close the dialog box.
 In the left pane click Users to see that the admin_person and
Query author users have been added.
 Close the Local Users and Groups window, the Users and
Passwords Dialog box, and the Control Panel.

Set up Web Aliases

Note: You must have Microsoft Internet Information Services


installed and started before completing this step.

Task 1. Set up alias for ReportNet.

 Navigate to Administrative Tools, and then open Internet


Services Manager.

 In Internet Information Services, expand <machine name>


and then expand Default Web Site.

 The Virtual Directory Creation Wizard appears.

 Under
Alias,
type crn,
and then
click
Next
 Browse to <Cognos Report Net Installation
location>\webcontent.

 Click OK.

 Click the Run scripts check box to clear it, so only Read is
selected, and then click next.

 Click Finish.
Note: For creating below virtual directories 2 & 3 follow the above
Screen shots.
Task 2. Set up virtual directory for cgi-bin.

 Right click the crn virtual directory folder, point to New, and
then click Virtual Directory.

 The Virtual Directory Creation Wizard appears.

 Click Next.
 Under Alias, type cgi-bin, and then click Next.

 Browse to <Cognos ReportNet Installation location>\cgi-bin,


click OK, and then click Next.

 Click the Execute check box to select it, so Read, Run


scripts, and Execute are selected, and then click Next.

 Click Finish.

Task 3. Set up virtual directory for help

 Right click the crn virtual directory folder, point to New, and
then click Virtual Directory.

 The Virtual Directory Creation Wizard appears.

 Click Next.

 Under Alias, type help, and then click Next.

 Browse to <Cognos ReportNet Installation location>\


webcontent\documentation, click OK, and then click Next.
 Click the Run scripts check box to clear it, so only Read is
selected, and then click Next.

 Click Finish

Task 4. Give browse access to images.

 Expand the crn virtual directory folder and the samples


folder.

 Right-click images, and then click Properties.

 In the image Properties dialog box, click the Directory


browsing check box to select it.

 Click Ok and then close Internal Services Manager.


Prepare for samples and solutions deployment

 Open Windows Explorer.

 Navigate to <Cognos ReportNet Installation location>\


 webcontent\samples\content.

 Copy the Cognos_Samples.zip file.

 Navigate to <Cognos ReportNet Installation


location>\deployment and then paste the zip file.

 Close Windows Explorer.


Import sample reports, and demo and workshop solutions

Task 1. Import the samples

 Open your browser, and then in the address bar, type


localhost/crn and press Enter.

 On the Log In screen,in the User ID box, type


admin_person, in the Password box, type admin1234, and
then click OK.

 The Cognos Connection welcome page appears.

 In the top right corner, click the Content Administration


link.
 Click the Import tab,on the toolbar.

In the Select a deployment archive screen, ensure the


Cognos_Samples package is selected, and then click Next.

 In the Specify name and description screen, click next.


 In the Select the public folders screen, click the check box
beside the GO Sales and Retailers folder to select it, and
then click next.
 In the Specify the general options screen, click Next.
 Click Next.
 In the Review the summary screen, click Import Now, and
then in the Finish screen, click Finish.
 In the top right corner, click Return.
Task 2. Create data sources

1. On the Cognos Connection Welcome page under the


Tools heading, click the Directory link.

2. In the Directory screen, click the Data Sources tab.

3. Click New Data Source.

4. Under Name, type go sales and then click next.


5. Under Type, select Microsoft SQL Server, and then
click next.

6. In the Server name box, type ‘localhost’, and then


under Database name, type ‘GOSL’.

7. Under Sign on, click the check box beside User ID to


select it, and click the Password check box to select it.
8. In the User ID box, type sa, and in the Password and
Confirm password boxes, type sa, and then click on
Test Connection.
 In the Test Connection –new Data Source wizard Click Test.
 In view the results-Test connection window.
 Status is Succeeded

 Click on Close twice.

 Click on Finish.

 Repeat steps 3 to 8 to create a data source for go retailers


using the database name GORT.

 Click Return.
Installation of Framework Manager

Steps:
1. Insert the new CD for setup.
2. Close Cognos8 services
 Go to Control Panel
 Click on Administrative Tool
 Click on Services
 Right Click on Cognos8 service
 Select stop.
 Close the window
3. Select win32 folder from CD
4. Run setup.exe
5. Follow the wizard.
Give path as C:\Programfiles\Framwork manager.
After the Components are installed
Click on Finish.
 Click on Environment
In Environment-Group properties window

Gateway settings
Gateway URI -------Instead of Local host (Your Computer
Name)
Other URI Settings
Dispatcher URI for External applications ----Instead of Local
host(Your Computer Name)
6. Restart Cognos8 service following step2.
7. Go to start  Program Framework manager.
