SOCSO Malaysia
• CORPORATE GOAL - To provide comprehensive social security protection for Malaysians.

• CORPORATE OBJECTIVE - To ensure and guarantee the timely and adequate provision of benefits in a
socially just manner and to promote occupational health and safety.
• Statutory Organisation governing Employment Injury Insurance Scheme & Invalidity Pension
Scheme in Malaysia.
• Currently insuring 14.5 million workers & 856,354 employers (All workers regardless of the
income).
• Contribution of 2.25% of the average salary (1.25% Employment Injury Scheme – Funded by
Employer & 1% for Invalidity Pension scheme – Equally Shared by Employer & Employee)
• Covering local and foreign workers as well as self employed.

Commuting Accident (1/1/92)
An accident happening to an insured person shall
be deemed to arise out of and in the course of his
employment if the accident happens while the
insured person –

(a) is travelling on a route between his place of


residence or stay and his place of work;

(b) is travelling on a journey made for any reason


which is directly connected to his employment; or

(c) is travelling on a journey between his place of


work and the place where he takes his meal during any
authorized recess.

CONCLUSION
• Occupational and commuting accidents poses a major factor for morbidity and disability
among employees
• Prevention is a collaborative effort between all stake holders. Everybody must play their
parts in this collaboration.
• Prevention in social security is dynamic.
• New approach like Vision Zero and Work-Related Road Safety Support Program by
practitioners – the way forward
