LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

For Grade 9
(Quarter 2 – Week 6)
Prepared by:
Aaron L. Asne
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
 Describe other types of organic compounds such as alcohol and carbonyl
containing compounds,
 Write and identify structural formulas of carbon compounds
II. Subject Matter
Organic Compounds
Reference: Science 9 Learner’s Module, pp. 131 – 141
DepEd: Pasig City, First Edition, 2014
Materials
Handouts made by High School Teachers
Book
III. Procedure
A. Preparation
 Greetings
 Checking of prior knowledge
B. Motivation
 The tutor will give a jumbled letter and the learner will arrange the
jumbled letter. The tutor will ask the learner, when you hear the word
“organic”, what does it mean? Is it something useful?
C. Lesson Proper
 The tutor will show the table of elements from the book to the student. He
will go over organic compounds as well as other types of organic
compounds such as alcohol and carbonyl-containing compounds, as well
as their structural formulas. He will also discuss aliphatic and aromatic
hydrocarbons.
D. Application
 The student will respond to the activity with the structural formula for
carbon and identify the number of bonds in the compound as well as its
classification.
IV. Evaluation
On a ½ sheet of paper, read each direction and answer what is asked.
A. Write the letter of the correct answer.
1. How many covalent bond can each carbon atom formed?
a. 1 c. 3
b. 2 d. 4
2. Which of these compounds is alkene?
a. Methane c. Propanone
b. Butyne d. Ethane
3. How many types of bonds are there in the following hydrocarbon compound?

a. 1 c. 3
b. 2 d. 4
4. What is the name of the alkane having five carbons?
a. Propane c. Octane
b. Methane d. Pentane
5. To which group of hydrocarbon does the molecule with the structure of H-C≡C-H
belong?
a. Alkane c. Alkyne
b. Alkene d. None of the above
B. Give the molecular and structural formula of the following:
6. Ethanol
7. Butanal
8. Octyne
9. Heptane
10. Nonane
V. Assignment
Study how is the mole used to express the mass of a substance and how is the percentage
composition of a given compound determined?
